Why would one buy this instead of the free/cheaper Longitude…?

e.g., I can understand the value prop of the Citation X, but the Honda Jet seems way too similar in operation to the Longitude…?

I do stand to be corrected

It's probably less functional/deeply simulated than the default Longitude as well. FFX is mid. But I already bought the Hjet years ago (not impressed though) and will try this since it's free--good on them for that aspect.

Because they wanted to.  Simple as that. Same question could be asked of you, “Why would you ask such a question?”  Same answer, because you wanted to.

See how that works? Blue skies,

My simpler answer is because the HJET is the plane I would buy / own in RL.  We are pretending after all.

Two different planes imo...the HjET looks and flies better with a bit of more character than the Longitude.

Because I am a Honda loyalist. Honda products owned: 1975 Honda XR 75, 1974 Honda CR125, 1975 Honda CB360T, 1975 Honda Civic, 1985 Honda Prelude, 1987 Honda Prelude, 1988 Honda Prelude, 1992 Honda Prelude, 2011 Acura MDX, 2016 Acura MDX, 2022 Acura MDX. Oh and a Honda generator. Took a 19 year hiatus from Honda vehicles to try German cars. German cars pushed me back to Honda.

The engineering of Honda is impressive.  Numerous championships in motorcross, motorcycle, Indy and F1 racing. They make outstanding marine products too. Honda is an incredible engine company. Astonished that they got into Aviation.

I do like the looks of the hj - quite unconventional 👍

And it can operate out of smaller airports than the C700. Which seems to need just about as runway as a 736.

what makes you feel like the hj flies better?

The Longitude is a mid-sized biz-jet holding up to 12 passengers and only certified for 2-pilot operation.

The Honda Jet is a light jet, designed from the ground up for single pilot operation and targeted at owner/operators carrying a few passengers.

So, IRL, two very different products targeting different markets.

Whether those differences matter to you as a simmer is, well, up to you.  I'm not really a jet guy and I struggle with the looks of the H-Jet (no brickbats, please, it's a purely subjective comment), but it's a category of plane that does hold some interest for me.  The Longitude on the other hand  is, from my admittedly jaded perspective, practically an airliner (yes, I'm intentionally exaggerating) and holds no real interest for me.

As always, YMMV and all that good stuff...

funny part is MANY at the company were not initially behind it as they couldn't see the utility but >that< ship has long past sailed and its a product they are very proud of

I hope whoever did the 'Honda' decals on flightsim.to updates them for the new version.

Yes - exactly right. 🤙

the question was mainly from the flight sim perspective, of course! 😁

I’ve had the Longitude from the beginning, and have always enjoyed it, esp since the AAU’s started rolling out, and further with the enhancements for v2024.

In re the HJ, for me it gets squeezed out between the  CirrusJet and the Longitude. And to a lesser degree the CJ4 (only lesser due to the non-Garmin cockpit 😉).

Also, though it’s a popular addon, it never reviewed as a Hi Fi addon. From these latest specs, that line may be blurred with this version.

in any case, it interests me because it’s an atypical design (just look at the organic flowing fuselage lines!). And given that very reasonable price, I may end up adding it to the collection just to have it.

I am really looking forward to this as well. I enjoy learning as many planes as possible, and this one was definitely fun in msfs 2020. I am touring aviations greatest hits.

Understood, but for me the line blurs.  If I wouldn't be interested in it IRL, I'm probably not interested in the sim.  Put another way, (and totally leaving aside any consideration of $$) I would never aspire to fly the Longitude.  It's too big for anything I'd ever need/want, I wouldn't want to deal with the second pilot requirement and I've no interest in flying charter or corporate.  The H-Jet, on the other hand, would fit a real world role I could see myself in.  Single pilot owner/operator.  Consequently, the Longitude doesn't interest me much in the sim because I could never really get that I can definitely see myself here feeling that I want when I sim.  If that makes sense.

Don't get me wrong, I totally see why others put themselves in planes they'd never use in reality, it just doesn't work for me.  I always come back to "what's the plane for in real life".   (As an aside, don't get me wrong^2 - if someone offered me right seat time in a Longitude, I'd totally be down for it!  That, as they say, is different.)

I'd look, but my eyes just can't get past the bug-eyed cockpit and the engine nacelles on those tall, overhanging pedestals which look like someone reminded the designers kinda late that they had to attach engines somewhere 🙂but again - totally subjective.  I gave up my ambition to be sole arbiter of beauty standards a long time ago.

I do kinda sorta want a light jet, but if I got this, it would be in spite of the looks, not because.  Different strokes and so on.

Some factors to consider in this thread.

1) FlightFX offering a free upgrade that hopefully sets the trend for other great MSFS DLC teams.
2) The immediate need to fill the Biz Jet black hole in early MSFS 2020.
3) Loyalty to RL HONDA products spurring an interest in a simulation DLC.
4) A great product / entry point for aspiring VLJ simmers.
5) A bridge between study level and practical flight simulation considerations.

Being a HONDA phoebe my purchase of the HJET was never in question and after watching interviews with the initial creator, Marwan Gharib, who obviously has a passion for the product / process was just icing on the cake

BTW, MSFS is awesome!

We are living in great flight simulation times.

cheers

I totally get beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  But it was in fact thoughtfully designed that way to create a quieter cabin for the passengers.  My issue with the hondajet (IRL) is how many of them run off the runway!

Can't wait to try out the new HJET flight model.
