BlackSquare Caravan Professional out

Prop for the Caravan should be left at 1900 rpm all the time.

you can pull it back to 1800 for cruise if you want the quiet, but not necessary.  Just push it back full for landing at some point.

Thanks, yes I’m aware. My point was adding too much fuel then increasing torque can cause an ITT spike which can damage the engine. Therefore sequencing is important and something people new to turboprops may be unaware of.

Strange... TDS is OK here..

Okay it is not TDS, it is the auto pilot. When I try to engage the plane just becomes uncontrollable. Still testing.

There might be a bug actually - are you flying the variants or the base model?

Are you engaging the autopilot via an external controller, or via the AP button in the cockpit?  I find that my usual "Z-key" button on my yoke does not work well in this plane.

Bert

OK. I got it now. I was expecting more power and for the throttle to be maxed out.

Did leave the Prop at 1800 pretty much the whole way. Also, I was gunning the engine to hard on takeoff and trying to push it to hard on climb.

Between here, a couple of videos and the manual I got it running like it should.

Really a great plane. Slow as heck but fun

The variants.

I am hitting the AP button. I reinstalled TDS and changed the APs in the plane and I think it is fine now? Still testing but two flights have been as expected.

I agree. It feels kind of loose and needs more love. But BS will dial it in.

I really like it and I also agree with your statement here. One thing that felt not quite developed is the engine sounds, particularly lack of bass and also the beta lacks depth. Makes it seem like a small prop up front, which is not the case. Feel like there is a bit more polish needed on sounds and the overall feel is a bit...yes...flat somehow. Wll have to fly her more to get more specific. But hopefully BS is going to carry her forward with a bit more shine.

That is the great thing about BS. They don't specialize in abandonware. This will only get better.

Mea culpa moment. I "may" have overloaded the airframe of the Caravan, although I swear I thought I changed the payload. Evidently numbers in red on that page are bad? She did feel pretty darn sluggish (and heavy!) right before that last crash, so yeah. lol

My bad. This is why I simulate flight. It's just safer this way.

Heck, I tried landing on a small strip in PNG last night with a purposely overloaded caravan. Spoiler: it did not go well at all, but I did have fun!

I'm guessing there is no career mode compatibility for the Caravan? This would be a blast in the skydiving and medium cargo missions, although it would probably need a skydiving variant with the door ready-up/jump light controls. Looks like the SWS's native 2024 Kodiak update will have career mode compatibility, so maybe I'll pick it up first (no doubt I will eventually get both!)

Did you leave the side window open? Silly question, possibly.

Yeah this one is actually with the 675HP engine and if its heavily laden it's kinda a fat boat LOL

I prefer the non cargo pod ones for sightseeing.

I don’t know what you’re talking about though.  You don’t add fuel to a turboprop in any other way than the condition lever when you’re starting it, and then the power lever once it’s running.

You don’t need to adjust the prop at all to protect the engine, or ITT, unless it’s modeled wrong.  You can’t just firewall the power level, it WILL overtorque the engine, but you don’t need to add or decrease prop rpm to move the power lever, ever.

I always brought the prop “up on the governor” on takeoff, by adding power to get it to 1900 rpm, and then you just add power until the torque gets to just shy of takeoff power (which off the top of my head for a 675-hp Caravan is 1865 ft/lbs), because the ram air effect will increase it as the take off roll progresses.  Flying a Caravan in normal ops, you never touch the prop lever until engine shutdown.  It’s just full forward all day.
