How do you spend your time on long-haul flights?
Since buying the PMDG 777 I have been loving the Auto Cruise function. There is something strangely satisfying about 'flying' an long haul in real time, but I find going to 2x or 4x works well - some flights can still take 3 hours but it feels like an achievement. If I don't have time for that I take the A320 on a short hop.

Initial observations: PMDG + FSX SE on Windows 10
Thanks for the info. I'm going to switch to Steam soon so I'm glad it seems worth it

Progress seems to be slowing for FSX
Interesting discussion. As a recent buyer of A2A products and PMDG 777 I am amazed at what these devs have been able to do with the platform. I spent some time yesterday in the flight deck of the 777 just reading through the FCOM and pushing various switches (even the ones I was told not to press....haha). My experience wasn't exactly with FSX but rather PMDG. Of course the 777 is not possible without the FSX background and I am very glad that FS had so many great years of development. I guess everybody has different requirements but the level of detail in the latest models from the likes of A2A, PMDG and Aerosoft had kept me very satisfied. It amazes me how well people understand FSX now and, as mentioned above, this body of knowledge, coupled with a stable platform (from a development POV) has led to the kinds of things that Microsoft would most likely never have intended to model anyway. Realize Duke radar altimeter
It's funny you should ask - I just did an ILS into EGGP last night in this a/c. The light came on at DH but I don't recall hearing a sound.

Future of Aviation
I'd say 737 and A320 would still definitely be in service (albeit updated). The sheer number of them out there would suggest its economical for companies to seek upgrades to fleets rather than wholesale replacements. To be honest, I don't think 10-20 years is that long in aviation terms. Just my thoughts.

Night Scenery Issue
I get a pretty similar effect. I always figured it was to do with the sim rendering texture being hit by aircraft lights, and the game just not doing a great job of it. Though it may be affected by different aircraft (ie different lights?) What aircraft are you using?

How Do You Use Default ATC?
As with most people here, I use it when it suits me and seems to add to realism, and ignore it at all other times. Eg sometimes the most popular or best fitting SID will be one which relies on radar vectors and so I am happy in those cases to let MS guide me. Otherwise I choose what's best for me/is most realistic.

Aerosoft A318/319 mouse wheel accelerator?
This may be a stupid reply but does anything happen if you right click the knobs/numbers? On at least one a/c I have (QW757) right clicking increases the numbers by a larger amount than default. Unfortunately I have a feeling it is solely tied to the mouse wheel as you say.

Using a Flightaware flight plan from kjac to kden
Do you know if the actual flight definitely flew the Moltn3 STAR? Or was it just planned? I can't remember if FlightAware 'updates' the route with whatever is actually flown.

How much ai traffic do you use?
I recently started using WOAI, I like how simple it is to add traffic and I appreciate the people who put in work to get the packages out there. Some of them are a little outdated but I'm not complaining. It's miles better than the default stuff and really adds to immersion IMO. Currently running my slider at 30%; I like seeing AI traffic but I don't want it to hold me up too much. If I get held up at a runway every 3rd or 4th takeoff I consider that a good compromise.

Editvoicepack X - Editing the name of a center
Hi all, I recently downloaded Editvoicepack X for use when I'm not on VATSIM. I know EVPX isn't supported any more but I thought I might get some help here. It's a great program and I'm mostly happy with how the ICAO phrasing options work -- I use this as I fly a lot in Australia. One thing that bugs me though is that now it refers to ATC Centers as 'Control' -- I.e. Melbourne Control, instead of the correct 'Melbourne Center'. I know this is correct in Europe, but in Australia it seems we have a hybrid of ICAO and FAA and we use mostly ICAO phrases with some smatterings of the American stuff. So my question is: is there a way to have Editvoicepack use ICAO phrasing, except change it so ATC will say 'Melbourne/Brisbane Center' instead of 'Control'? I imagine there is a line of code I can change somewhere but I don't know where to look. Thanks, Tom

Problems with dashboard and cockpit lights...
The A2A Cessna 172 (which it seems you might have looked at) has pretty much what you describe in your OP. You can set the intensity of the instrument lights independently of the glareshield; so you can turn glareshield off and have the soft glow of the instruments. Additionally you can control the intensity of the radio stack lights too. Whether this is acceptable or comparable to your non-sim flying experience I couldn't say for certain, but I would imagine it's probably one of the best (if not the best) sim options available.

Razbam metro autopilot question
I could be wrong but I don't think the Razbam Metro autopilot can do what you want it to do in this case. I have this a/c myself and can't get it to follow a GPS route either. The NAV ARM button seems solely to work with radio navigation (i.e. VORs etc). This is a known issue as the real Metroliner apparently has a very limited autopilot anyway. There is a large thread on these forums that have some people who (I think) have developed a more extensive autopilot for the Metroliner. It's a large thread though; hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can provide you a link to their updates.

Moving addon aircraft to new computer and clean install of FSX
Yes a clean install of each is the way to go. One exception I can think of is if you have any A2A stuff -- you'll want to copy over any .bak files if you want to keep the current 'state' of your a/c. There are details on the A2A forums how to do this.

contemplating a few aircraft. Input?
Don't have the Turbine Duke but I have the B60 and love it. There's something really fun about cruising around at FL230 in a GA plane. I've got the A2A Cherokee (as well as the 172 and P-51) and it's a blast too. I usually fly it IFR in bad conditions; it's a very stable plane. You'll have fun with all of them I'm sure.

RealAir Duke B60 V2 - loud VC?
I have this aircraft. guess you are pretty close to the engine where you're seated in the cockpit, but it definitely shouldn't be so loud as to make it unable to hear radio comms etc. From memory the user manual has a set of suggested sound levels you can try. If that doesn't work or you don't like it, play around with the engine sound slider until you find something that works for you.
