October 15, 200916 yr WHAT ABOUT! WHAT ABOUT! What about the word FOUNDRY!I think they're working on an IRON SMELTING simulator!!WHAT ABOUT! WHAT ABOUT! What about Cascade... hmm.EUREKA! A DISHWASHING DETERGENT SIMULATOR!!!!!!!!111!!1111!!!BBQ!Sorry for the over the top sarcasm. I'm just being amused by the back-and-forth. People getting excited...Others telling them or preferring not to...Others adding their spin...Others telling others to tell others to have differing opinions...(You know, the classic Internet forum food chain.)That, and I'm peeved that my "first posts" of this news here and on another site end up second fiddle to latecomers who used exclamation points and breaking news tags. Sensationalism - not just for Access Hollywood! (I know, it's petty of me. Bah. Whatever. Sudafed and a strong cold do not make good bedfellows with forum posts!) Please do carry on. I can only watch so many DVR'ed episodes of the Office before I need a break, and this is just as good.
October 15, 200916 yr while I can't predict what will hold for the future of this development teamone thing is for sure , ....two accually Many will be disapointed if and when the game hits the shelf because they have already formulated what it should beThe developers will take a pounding for not giving the speculators what their wild imaginations have concocted.(make reasonable suggestions when CGF reveals some particulars , absolutly, but we shouldn't ... plant the vertical tail on the nose of the aircraft)and btw ...This is not Aces, it may have some former developers from Aces but it isn't Aces Lets at least give them proper recognition for who they are, Cascade Game FoundryPersonally I hope they stay as far for MS as possible, not that I want to bash MS , but let's face it MS ditched FS
October 15, 200916 yr I really hope they won't go back to making another FS because I really like the Aerosoft project.ACES staff = ACES quality = Not very good when you look at FSX. besides we needs something fresh as the underlying technology behind FSX come from FS2000, which is very old.
October 15, 200916 yr This time however, I doubt that Cascade would be be able to con MS into keeping the rights to a new FS- as young Bill Gates did with Windows !!!!!Alex ReidDidn't you mean, 'as young Bill Gates did with DOS !!!!!' Windows came much later when Microsoft was already established... It is a LONG stretch to say that the few niggles you have against FSX constitutes a poor quality overall franchise for MSFS. Time will bear witness that FSX is indeed better than its predecessors. October 15, 200916 yr Too add to the wild speculation please allow me a wilder scenario question. :( What if Cascade were to be a subcontractor to MS in order to build on what already has been accomplished in the FS arena?Just saying.. :(Microsoft decided earlier this year that FS11 had no future. Unless it's changed it's mind why should it now re-start it and contact out development of FS11? Microsoft would have to pay out money up-front to Cascade and, it it had any sense, would demand performance guarantees in return. Could a new start-up company provide such guarantees? Also the risks would be high and I doubt the contract could eliminate them in practice. Cascade:"We didn't allow in our price for having to write that section of the code, we thought you had done it"Microsoft: "No, we haven't" Gerry Howard
October 15, 200916 yr Could a new start-up company provide such guarantees?Yes very easily by ditching all attempts at making it compatible with any previous FS addons or tools. Cheers, Andy.
October 15, 200916 yr Yes very easily by ditching all attempts at making it compatible with any previous FS addons or tools. You misunderstand me. A buyer may insist upon a performance guarantee from the seller's bank. The bank guarantees to provide the buyer with an agreed sum if the seller defaults. These guarantees are often irrevocable (the seller can't cancel it) and on-demand (the bank will pay without needing any proof of default). It is to guarentee the performance of the contact - not the performance of the product.Anyway, why should Microsoft sub-contact developing a totally new flight simulator to anyone, given its recent decisions? October 15, 200916 yr This is good news! Aerosoft quality is abysmal for the most part anyway and their support is even worse. Personally I would never buy anything from them again. Go aces! I look for something from them in 2 years or so.Huuhhh????I own many Aerosoft products and had rarely issues with them. The very few times I needed Aerosoft's support, it was excellent! In addition, are you aware that Aerosoft is mainly a publisher for products of other designers - e. g. for the whole PMDG portfolio?Wolfgang

On another site it's being speculated that Cascade is being funded by some disgruntled millionaire who's annoyed that Microsoft killed the projects ACES was working on! Gerry Howard
October 15, 200916 yr Very true. October 15, 200916 yr I can only emplore you to look at the forest a bit on that one. It is a LONG stretch to say that the few niggles you have against FSX constitutes a poor quality overall franchise for MSFS. Time will bear witness that FSX is indeed better than its predecessors.Indeed FSX is now a much better sim with the expansion pack and patches, but there was a time where poor design, poor decision making and broken promises almost doomed the product. Back then most were still sticking to FS2004 because even state of the art computers at the time (Core 2 Duo etc) couldn't handle FSX. Imagine playing a game with next to no multi core support, no DX10 as promised, aging architecture etc with spreadsheet style flight dynamics that probably dates back to FS98 and simple ATC and weather dynamics. I don't want to buy the next FS to find out that I can't play it smoothly even with brand new $2000 computers and having to wait a year or 2 before the patches come out. I'll bet my money with Aerosoft thanks, I just want a fresh design on a clean sheet of paper.
