December 4, 200916 yr Bob- Does the book author receive any royalty from library use by probably hundreds or thousands of readers of that single copy? Does the author see me as a freeloader?--------------(No, don't think I've ever seen a Palm Pilot. Heck, I was retired long before I even saw a PC- let alone owned one & still haven't figured out how to download.) Reading a real paper book in your favourite recliner is one of life's noble pleasures! - as is a smooth FS IFR landing in 1/4 mile vis!Season's Greetings Alex ReidI don't use the library much any more. Don't really know how all that works. Could be one of thoes mysteries of life to me. I do envy you. I'm 58 and will probably never be able to retire. My recliner sits in front of my TV. I don't waste time with TV programing, but I do like to rent movies. A Palm Pilot is a little bigger than an iphone. Small enough to carry around so that I can read anywhere. You know, on the bus, or in the doctors waiting room(something I seem to be doing more of, lately.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

December 5, 200916 yr Author All products sold through the Flight1 wrapper can be reinstalled without issue. Thus there is no need to go to a pirate site to obtain that which you have legal right to have.True, however I was referring to rightseater's post about downloading pirated software in the first place, I'm trying to point out the grey areas that exist with disc copies, not trying to validate it... I was only trying to point out that sometimes, if you were to just prosecute everyone who downloaded torrents of games, you would have a lot of collateral damage, including legit customers who are just trying to fix an issue they are having with a hard copy of a product they bought. I know that dlc usually doesn't have this issue.I don't use the library much any more. Don't really know how all that works. Could be one of thoes mysteries of life to me. I do envy you. I highly doubt that someone who has pirated 20 flight sim addons in a week is replacing legit copies. Plus, I'm talking about actually prosecuting them. That means there would have been an investigation and it would be determined if they had ever legitimately purchased the product they were replacing. Jeremy "rightseater" Fletcher

That means there would have been an investigation and it would be determined if they had ever legitimately purchased the product they were replacing. This will happen perhaps in a country called Dreamland Republic. The police, crime investigators on the internet have other more important tasks to execute. Of course there leisurely stroll lawsuits against pirates and how it manages to be shown on the front page of newspapers. What does it mean when you know the number of softwares downloaded illegally every day on the internet? The pirate has less chance to appear in court he has of winning the lotto. It is obvious that if the police would carry out arrests and subsequent prosecutions they would have good results. What about the money and congestion in the courts .. all for a meager result (the culprits are most often insolvent) The final blow media (Piratebay) of anti-piracy is a good example ... How much does it cost? how much it paid and for what results? Piratebay is still active .... So the developers as to find piracy countermeasures .. and do not dream about a hunting pirates by theirself and the help of the police.Regards.Gus.
December 5, 200916 yr So the developers as to find piracy countermeasures .. and do not dream about a hunting pirates by theirself and the help of the police.Exactly. In many countries dowloading is not a criminal offence. It is an infringement of copyright and a civil matter for the copyright holder to pursue through the courts. The Digital Economy Bill now going through the UK Parliament will introduce the following procedure:If a copyright holder believes its copyright has been infringed by a subscriber it can report the subscriber to its ISP the ISP must notify the subscriber of the report the ISP must keep track of the number of reports against each subscriber and compile, on an anonymous basis, lists of subscribers the copyright holder may obtain a court injunction requiring the ISP to provide personal details of subscribers the copyright holder may then take civil legal action against those on the list. That's clearly a lengthy process but Parliament isn't going to pass any law that would punish people on the simple word of the music and movie industries - much as the industry might want that.If this law doesn't reduce infringment sufficiently then other measures may be intoduced such as slowing, or even cutting-off, internet access. These would be of doubtful legality. It's important to note that this does not make downloading a criminal offence, The reasons are that the police, prosecuting authorities and courts have more important things to do. Another reason is that criminal case must be proved beyond reasonable doubt whersas civil cases are decided on the basis of balance of probabilities. Beyond reasonable doubt would be difficult to setablish if a PC has several users. Also, regardless of the law, juries could acquit if they felt that the wealth and power of the industry was being deploying agaunst a relatively weak and powerless individual. The industry must take its own steps to protect against piracy. December 5, 200916 yr Commercial Member One recurring theme I see in this discussion... it's completely and totally on the developer's shoulders to deal with the issue. The rest of the 'community' isn't responsible one way or the other.Kinda like when you're standing on your front porch watching someone break into your neighbor's house and walk off with all their valuables.
