Sad news from POSKY

Featured Replies

Being more into payware than freeware, I'm not personally that affected by POSKY's problems, but I well remember when POSKY first began; if I recall correctly, it got quite some coverage on Avsim when it first started out. Since I always do rate highly the philanthropic efforts of those who produce freeware, I was among those who agreed POSKY was a welcome arrival when it started out.At that time I was making a bit more freeware than I do these days, and I did actually consider pitching in, but in the main what stopped me, was that such collective efforts often have quite a few less mature people involved. This is invariably by virtue of the fact that exploring things such Photoshop and 3DSMax is the kind of activity which often appeals to younger people (I know that's true because they are among the programs I teach for a living). So the level of skill and enthusiasm is very often impressive, but the same cannot always be said for the level of maturity. Thus minor quibbles can take on the proportions of the over-dramatic, as they often do with those who aren't quite so experienced at life in general; something that is occasionally rather cruelly referred to as 'nerd rage'. Despite that slightly cruel tag, it is on occasion not too far from the truth, and it can stir up some attitudes in a rather unnecessary manner. So it is a shame to see POSKY hit problems, but like many others, I am well aware that there was a very anti-FSX and somewhat immature attitude on display in POSKY's more recent times, and that is something I certainly will not be sad to see go. Hopefully the now all-too-evident result of such attitudes will be a lesson which those involved can learn from, and we will see a somewhat wiser incarnation of the project, because that aside, it will be good to see it put on a sage fresh face and get back into doing the things it undeniably did very well indeed.Al

Years ago, maybe 6 or 7, I started downloading Posky aircraft and read their forums. Time after time I saw people being raked over the coals by certain puffed up individuals beating their chests about their superior knowledge so much I stopped going there. In the end that probably killed them as the public will only take so much ridicule, abuse and neglect.Their decision to stay with the FS past instead of adapting to FSX marginalized them into a fringe group with a nasty reputation for their bad inappropriate junk-yard-dog behaviour. I hope that out of it will emerge some progressive and creative artists who will take their considerable talent into newer flightsim worlds without having a chip on their shoulder.Kind regards,
Some members could be nasty - yes. I have experienced some silliness from them myself. But it remains that their models (and FDEs) are very impressive and highly valued in the community, it would be a loss if further development of these (and other potential projects) is abandoned. It is also important to remember that not all POSKY members were the nasty type.

I agree. The is probably one of the reasons that they are splitting in to two separate groups.Nastiness aside, I still don't know why they chose to over complicate their install procedures. I have manually installing everything for 10 years and their aircraft are still a chore. Want to kill an afternoon? Try figuring out how to merge their FSX models with a default VC. And don't you dare ask for help with installing anything in to FSX.

Farewell to Hiroshi and his folks who have graced the virtual skies for the past 10 years. They might have been some of Flight Simulator's most ruthless groups of all time, but the time they have devoted to create several aircraft that have never been featured before, or lack recognition in Flight Simulator, which immediatley gained its popularities through POSKY. No other freeware airliner group had been so popular, yet as successful as POSKY. Thanks to them, we have loads and loads of 757s to fill in our virtual hangars, as well as Airbuses coupled with Ken Mitchell's A330/A340 panels :(.Dave.

Nasty forum or not, their 777 is an absolute beauty. Combined with the PSS777's panel, it's the only good 777 we have in FS2004. As for their other aircraft? I guess I don't care too much. I personally do not fly aircraft that don't have a VC, so only their 777 is of good use to me. Sure, there are more with a VC, but all of them either have a vastly inferior VC t the payware planes I own or they are of aircraft that I do not feel the need to fly. I find it sad to see them go, but if it's all like I read in previous replies, they were doomed long ago. I cna only hope that the files remain in the public domain and won't vanish. They had a good run, but to evetything good comes an end.
Their 777s was both FS9's and FSX's golden gem in the core of the freeware airliner market. The 757's VC was IMHO "pants", but coupled with PSS' interior model, sounds and FDEs, this adds the ultimate accuracy as POSKY's models are far more accurate to that of PSS'. Dave.

Hello DaveHow would you know that the Posky FDE is more accurate than the PSS?Do you own the PSS 757.

There's a few artist that started of at posky a perfect example would be Missi aka fspainter one of the best model designers out there. he has done tons of work all the overland planes the lvlD 767 the CLS 747, MD-80, DC-10, then of course there's the guys at cls themselves who came from projectopensky and also qualitywings. its sad to see the old posky go hopefully this split will benefit everyone in some way but I gotta tell you we wouldn't have had these wonderful artist or great freeware payware planes if posky didn't exist it was like a school for allot of guys learning all the time from each other. dont forget that the ERJ 145 also had a very fantastic vc and free. so hopefully will see good things with the 2 groups.

It's not the FDE, only the exterior models are far more accurate. Simply because several details on the PSS/JF model, such as the passenger window, which looks downright ugly despite being modelled, the engines and sounds that are well off their real life counterparts (but so far, those are the only sounds compatible with the POSKY/PSS merge), and some details that are missed within the fuselage, that could use a little more "Boolean operation". Dave.

Its not sad to see Posky fall apart after 10 years if the admin on Posky had treated new people to the website with more respect and stopped the discrimination against people with disabilities and most certainly the website would have been better. And the constant liers who say that posky was freewear then how come certain members of the admin were selling posky textures including aircraft and also demanding donations.Their attitude is not what young children need to hear or let alone being insulted because they have disabilities and are unable to do repaints. There are members of posky admin group who are their just to use abuse and constant insults and when they know their in the wrong they block people using the website. They even blocked people from their website because the person would not accept their demands for money.

I don't know about you, but I got all planes for free, including the repaints. So yes, to me POSKY is freeware, and I'm quite sure that's also the case for many other people.

What are you talking about? All planes and stuff from POSKY was freeware. I have not seen them sell any of their FS stuff - ever. Donations were also entirely optional. Some of their Forums members could be abusive but I have no knowledge of them insulting anybody based on disability.

HelloI ask again, how is it that you know for a fact that the PSS FDE , sounds/engine ect are sub standard.<edit by mod-keep this civil>

To answer mad dog's question first, the exterior model's reviews were based on a review and several screenshots I've seen so far, and also on videos from YouTube. Please note that I don't fly FS9 and I don't fly PSS aircraft. Thread specific post here: Looks like this will be the last day to be able to download the basepacks from them before they go offline tomorrow, at least from the official site..I'll always remember POSKY from then on, the reason why I came into flying the 747, was all thanks to their efforts for creating such a beautiful exterior model that allows easy integration with the default VC. Flying within the default VC had never been so interesting since then for me. The group also inspired me to the 757. Thank you, POSKY, and once again, farewell.Dave.
