Externalities and the NGX

FYI... The Orbx KPDX freeware addition to the PNW software is now available at their site.
Just to clarify, The freeware is actually of the downtown area of Portland and not KPDX. KPDX is in the works and will be payware.

I just had a dream in which the NGX was released. Is that a bad thing?
I had a dream of the ngx. Flying in the NGX at FL390 at night in the cockpit. The co pilot and I were looking out when we saw a big light/explosision. Keep in mind, this is all looked like Minecraft(been playing that way to much) except the plane. It was a nuclear bomb going off. The plane shook violently from the shockwave of the bomb and it went down. I survived a long with a few other people.

I've had a few dreams about the ngx over the last year.

Congratulations to the Egyptian people. Only tonight I discovered that Hosni Mubarak resigned. Your determination has inspired many other countries to fight against oppression. I really hope that now the Middle East can walk together toward freedom and peace.

The NGX isn't out yet and you are already draming of a disaster?! That's not a good start for a plane in test phase, is it? LOL.gif

Hello PMDG,I just have a special request, I am kindly asking you to add EGYPTAIR livery for the coming NGX, with the words “Dawn of Freedom in Egypt 2011” or something, on the exterior, celebrating the revolution and freedom we have just achieved and won, it will be interesting and will be touching people at the FSX community.Only a suggestion JThank you Alaa Riad
Ahlan was Ahlan Alaa!Congrats to your wonderful people .What a great example of bravery, intelligence and determination you gave to the whole world!I hope you'll stay united and free.Best wishes,David

I remember this time last year thinking not too long now. Basically the longer this plane is held off I think the less will buy. I probably won't buy because my gaming computer died. But I'm sure many will have other reasons. That's what Time does. So yeah now I'm expecting not a 737 sim but a 737 that is only held behind the confines of ones monitor. ;D Peace

I doubt it, but of course there will always be some complainers that wont buy it for spite because it took some time to develope. As if them not buying it is really going to hurt PMDG. :( Considering that everytime a new post is started with updates on the NGX and the fact that they always get in excess of 250,000 views and the fact that the PMDG area is one of the most viewed areas of the Avsim forums, I would be willing to bet that they will sell more of the NGX than any of their other a/c they have ever produced, despite the time it took to complete.Sean Campbell

It's always the same. When PMDG gives us updates, everybody come to the forum, amazed by the pictures, and we see a lot of "I assure you I'll buy it anyway!". After 2 or 3 weeks in the dark, we start to see complaints like "I'll not buy it because it's taking too long". Just wait for the next update and those same people will return and say (again) "I assure you I'll buy it anyway!". It's a kind of vicious cycle.I really don't care how long it will take because I know that PMDG is doing the best they can to make the best addon for MSFS ever. I know that when it's out, we'll see that the all the wait and expectation simply were worth it. But try to explain that to those people... Good luck for those who will try.

I really couldn't care less how long the NGX takes. My opinion for why it has taken so much longer than PMDG had hoped is because of all the customer options they have decided to add to the plane, and that is the reason the NGX will be such a hit, it will change the game in airliner simulation by been a fully customizable aircraft for the user to use as they desire.

I thought from what a staff member said in December, is that with the release coming so quickly, we wont have time to show you in depth visuals, you will be flying it by then..Its mid-feb, and I know troll comments will ensue, but a business is a business and projects are projects.

I feel the exact same way, I would prefer PMDG take the time to add this level of customization under the hood so that us die hard fanatics who follow a specific airliner's SOP to the letter can truly simulate airliner ops as intended. I have the PMDG printed manuals for the NGX, and you would be amazed to know just how differently the VNAV behaves during the startup and takeoff/climb phases based on the vintage of the FMC operating software. For instance, in the older FMC versions (U10.7) you can only activate VNAV after the plane is past the flaps retraction sequence because when its enabled it instantly accelerates to the 250 climb mode. I had noticed if I enable VNAV at 400 agl (or anytime before proper accel height) in other NGs in Flight Simulator, the plane would instantly lower the nose and accelerate to 250 kts and ask for flap retraction ahead of the published airfield accel heights (which can range from 800ft to 3000ft) because that is the way the FMC in the sim was coded. In the newer FMCs (U10.8), the FMC has an acceleration height entry you can populate during the pre-departure flows, you can arm the VNAV on the ground, and the a/c will respect the accel height you input in the FMC automatically, saving the pilot from having to wait until the conditions are met for VNAV first, which reduces pilot workload. In that way, the 737 behaves more like the 747 which I am so accustomed to flying, which I didn't think was possible. There are many little things like that which make the user experience easier if the airliner options are properly modeled in the upcoming NGX (i.e., automatic ignition during all phases of flight so that the pilot won't have to switch to Cont or FLT mode during bad weather or approaches; and an Auto Thrust Reduction option which means the a/c will automatically reduce to from takeoff to climb thrust during climbout, these two scenarios were done manually by the pilot if the FMC software is older or if the option was not purchased by the airline)That is just one example of the importance of having the PMDG NGX properly coded for these important nuances in the systems, which are dependent on the airline you are simulating purchasing a specific option. It will be nice to have a product for FSX which is not one size fits all, but rather tries to simulate the infinite combinations of options that the real bird offers the real world airlines, making the whole FSX experience much more richer and fulfilling for those who choose to go for "As Real As it Gets!"

I remember when people were crying because there was a chance PMDG would be releasing the 737NGx with no 2D panels, only Virtual Cockpit. People got crazy, many saying they can´t fly an addon without 2D panels and stuff, and PMDG answered them, saying they´d be doing 2D panels for the last time, for next projects only VC. It sounded like PMDG weren´t originally planning to do so, and started doing because some people got really angry, and I bet that´s one of the reasons for the delay, they´re still making those 2D panels to please those users.People can´t come here , get into multiple debates in order to convince PMDG to do a feature they think it´s gonna make a world of difference, and then throw rocks because the product is taking too long to get released, it´s just the way things work, the more you add to a project, the longer it takes.I´m sure everyone will run to buy it the minute it gets released, and everyone will be happy, despite having said multiple times they weren´t going to do so anymore.

Not familiar with the 737 types. So a question:Are these 737's able to fly VOR Radials/Courses?Asking because the Queen needs special programming in the FMC, while the MD11 has this VOR TRACK feature build into the FMS, but does not perform correctly.Anyway I will buy the 737NGX. when it is released, to find an answer to my question.Regards,Harry
