Featured Replies

Was looking for a good Freeware (Prefered) or Payware single engine GA plane. Just downloaded most of Bluesky's scenery and looking for a good Sightseeing plane. Thanks

Hi.  You really can't go wrong with any of Carenado's GA selections - especially their newer models.  I prefer their Cessna 182Q for most of my VFR flights.  It's payware, but well worth it.Also look through the library.  I believe there is a freeware Cessna 172 replacement that has gotten good reviews.Good luck, and happy flying!Ron

Try the Fravin Cessna 150:http://www.fs-tutorials.com/en/down_plane_C150_01.phpFreeware and really, really good!another good example, especially for sightseeing, is the freeware Aeroprakt A-22 Foxbat from Rick Piper. Available here: http://www.playhorizon.co.uk/downloads.htmThere's also this nice Morane Saulnier 500/505:http://www.flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH1&fsec=0&fname=mora505.zipThe plane is a French-built variant of the German Fieseler Fi 156 Storch. It has great STOL Performance and also makes a very good sightseeing plane. For something more complex and what, for me is the best single engine GA plane for FS9, there's this Yak-18T - yakovlev_yak-18t.zip , from the AVSIM Library. Beware though, its a complex simulation (variety of realistic failures are included) and is substantially different from Western GA types. Once used to it though it's very, very special.sendfile.php?Location=AVSIM&Proto=file&ImageID=258730for it its advisable to get the Addpack 2.2:http://www.flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH1&fsec=0&fname=YAK18A22.ZIPand this file, which has two impressive repaints, but more importantly a very good panel update (amongst other things has the effect of making the VC gauges clearer):yak-18t_repaints.zipfrom the AVSIM Library

Real Air Simulations gave us an upgrade to the default C172 that improves the air file considerably and slightly tweaks the VC - it's an easy fix if you just want something to cruise around in to look at scenery. An awesome payware GA aircraft is the FSD Pilatus Porter - if you want slow and low that can take off and land ANYWHERE it is hard to beat. Their C-337/O2A is also excellent value.Rick Piper's freeware Chipmunk is very good though it's a little cruder than some of his later products that are really cutting edge.If you want to up the ante to two radial engines, Milton Shupe's Beech 18 is a truly great freeware product as is his new Beech AT-11.

I'm trying to get the RAS Cessna 172 to work with FSX:Steam Edition but the repaint and the gauges don't show up.  Anyone know how to fix??

That repaint was for the FS9 Skyhawk and the FSX .mdl and textures are different so the funky paint won't work unless you copy the FS9 Skyhawk into FSX which I wouldn't recommend. Better to adapt the RealAir FDE into the FSX Skyhawk but you'll have to give up the repaint.

My preference is for the Carenado external model, the default FSX Skyhawk VC, and the RealAir FDE. I'd rather fly that combo than the A2A Skyhawk to be honest.

Effeh Sex "Steam"???

My goodness, I knew it needed a little help, but this???

Of course, this being the FS9 Forum, we probably don't understand...

I'd roundly support the Fravin Cessna 150 mentioned above: class of its own.

But the Carenado Bonanza gives me a kick every time I feel like a quick fly over some really nice scenery. If I can prize myself out of my favourite rotorcraft, that is.

If I am to fly as slow as a bird, I insist on landing in the same kind of space...

Well all of the above are admirable and I agree 100%.

I am somewhat surprised however that the SAAB and DORNIER haven't been mentioned yet.  IMHO these beat hands down any Carenado.  And what about RealAir's DECATHLON and SCOUT?

Rick Piper made a superb deHavilland Chipmunk package and the bubble canopy version has superb visibility.

There's a Yak 18T which I haven't used but is one of the most downloaded FS2004 freeware GAs on Avsim.

Factory Aircraft Rebuilder's Socata TB20GT

Guenter Kraemer's Cirrus SR20

There's a few Robin DR200 and DR400 addons that might be worth looking at too.

I know they're twin props, but how about a Rockwell Commander? Milton Shupe did some nice Aero Commanders with virtual cockpits.

Veneaviones made a fantastic Turbo Commander package that I spent many happy hours in (it's a rocket)!

All the above are freeware package that include a custom panel, VC and sounds, and can be found in the Avsim file library. I hope these suggestions are useful.

Iris' Pilatus PC-9 (old version) has become freeware and is a pleasure to fly.

Which Saab and Dornier would that be? I have the Saab by Sibwings and it's great but no Dornier. Aerosoft maybe?

Cheers,

Sascha

Will it work in FS9? I can only find an FSX SP2 version ...

I know you are looking for freeware but you cannot go wrong with A2A's Piper Cub, Piper Cherokee, Cessna 172 or their Cessna 182. All of them are great and add an incredible amount of immersion to your experience. Happy flying!!

NA-73 thanks for your contribution however this is the FS9 forum and those marvelous A2A aircraft will not work in this platform.
