April 19, 201115 yr I tried to search for all the threads on the new MS Flight, but got a thousand hits because it searches words. I could not narrow the search. I was at the FSDT KORD forum and Umberto said in response to this question regarding updating their KORD scenery. Quote from: donaldd on April 11, 2011, 09:18:26 PM"I know this has been asked but, the last time there was an "update" was about four to five months ago" (The "update" is talking about when Umberto had last talked about a time frame to update KORD.)This is Umberto's response."And in that time, something which can obviously affects us (and any other developer out there) happened, which was the announcement a new flightsim from Microsoft will come. This means, we are currently working only on our work in-progress projects, which at this time are KLAX, GSX and Hawaii 2. Everything else is now on hold, because we need to revaluate everything we'll do in the future in relationship with the new MS flight sim, since we'll probably have to update all our sceneries, if only to bring them to new KDFW/KLAX quality standards, not just KORD." Umberto Colapicchionihttp://www.virtualisoftware.comThis is the reason for my question. Will the new flight sim be a game or a simulator? Will it be able to be developed for by 3rd party developers? Will it be an online subscription game? Does anyone know anything about the development and concept of MS Flight? Thank you,Lynn Lynn Fisher
April 19, 201115 yr Hi Lynn,I have to be honest and say that as I write this I don't know the intended release time for MS Flight. So that should affect my feelings a little. Right now I'm not to worried about Flight affecting my plans with FSX. I have a feeling that MS Flight might be FSX done right. FSX has a lot that it could do, but it is really limited by its engine. If the new team can bring FSX with an engine that uses the GPU and not the CPU, then I will be happy to have FSX in the modern era of gaming. Many of the pictures are suggesting that MS Flight looks to be Windows 7 to Windows Vista, which is another thing I can't complain about. My dream would be that FSX add-ons will be compatible with minimal updates required. I hope to see an engine swap.Until then I'm still waiting for Majestic's DHC-Q400 and PMDG's 737NGX. :( Derek RogersPC Specs: Intel i7-4790K 4.6GHz : 16GB RAM : GTX 970 4GB
April 19, 201115 yr Moderator This is the reason for my question. Will the new flight sim be a game or a simulator? Will it be able to be developed for by 3rd party developers? Will it be an online subscription game? Does anyone know anything about the development and concept of MS Flight? Lynn, some of these questions have already been answered in the Flight website under the FAQ's.You should check out the website and read all the articles and FAQ's to get a better understanding. Anything else you may read in flight sim forums, or here for that matter, other that what they have stated on the website, is only guesses and speculation since the people involved in developing Flight are under NDA's and cant talk about it.Here's the link if you haven't already had a look: http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/My guess is that it will be much like FSX, but more more online features that you can use if you so choose. I would also guess that 3rd party developers will be able to develope for it. Based on what the Flight website says I doubt it will be a subscription game. However these are all just guesses and I wouldn't be influenced by what myself or anyone else says on the subject because no one knows and the ones that do can't talk.BTW, Flight has not effected my FS plans. I figure that once it comes out it will most likely be sometime before 3rd party content is available to use. So if Flight comes out this Christmas, it could be 6 months or more before there will be any good addon a/c or planes to use. Although depending on if there is or isn't any backward compatibility from FSX products it could be sooner or later that 3rd party stuff will be available. You know there is also a "Flight" forum here on Avsim where a lot of this is being discussed, and I wouldn't doubt if your post gets moved there. April 19, 201115 yr Author Thank you for the information. I didn't realize that their is a forum here for flight. I have just thought that with the disbanding of Aces that was it.Thanks,Lynn Lynn Fisher
April 19, 201115 yr For me FLIGHT is so far off it really has no impact at the moment, its 2011 and I'm still waiting for a decent 737 for fsx, and even when its released its going to take the 3rd party time to catch up if they are able to create products for it at all, and by the time developers like fsdt, pmdg etc etc get caught up MS will announce Flight 2 or something, and the madness will start again.
April 19, 201115 yr At this moment in time I am more concerned with Horizon Simulations getting their act together, and actually releasing the final three volumes of VFR Scotland before the Sun runs out of hydrogen fuel. For me the Announcement of ms flight hasn't effected me at all its great news to me and I look forward to any improvements to are beloved simulator. of course I know they took the word out simulator, but its still the same product to me I will continue to buy and enjoy fs9 and fsx till ms flight comes out and see if its worth leaving fsx. April 19, 201115 yr The way people are still enjoying FS9 I will still enjoy FSX for at least another 2 years. Now that computing power is allowing us a smooth fsx experience with most sliders maxed and addons, I don't see any reason to move on yet to any new version that might come out sometime.Give me the PMDG 737, 777, Q400, hopefully a Beech 1900C/DMaybe a Dreamfleet 727And more great high quality addon scenery and FSX will be so close to perfect.
April 19, 201115 yr Well, on my part, yes...the announcement of FLIGHT has affected my opening of the wallet any further for FSX. After all the tweaking, after all the searching (as everybody else has done, and DOES.....) you still get CTD's, you still get freezes if you open too many 2D windows, etc (at least with W7) and I do not find FSX a stable-at-this-time flight simulation platform. I am also noting more and more that there are wide-cover sales of 33 to 60 % percent off on present high-end 3rd party scenery, which makes me wonder if FLIGHT will be 100 percent compatible with FSX specific scenery. This does make me wonder. I'm starting to feel that perhaps FLIGHT will be different enough within its drive engine, that present FTX software for instance will not run, or run in a deteriorated state, if at all.Nobody is stating that all present-day FSX scenery files will fully mesh with the new FLIGHT and run at optimum. If so, please point me out to any official 3rd party website or blog forum whereby the developers state this..and not a user/forum member.Anyway...that's my take. I'm going to take a rest and sit in the bush....on planes as well as scenery. I just have this feeling that these escalated sales means that FLIGHT is on the doorstep and the developers (who of course KNOW if their present line-up will be made useless within the new platform) are trying (as they should!!!) to cash in and catch the last few shekels before 'the scenery-is-useless-in FLIGHT' is then generally known because of FLIGHTs R.T.M.I am looking at a couple of FS9 purchases though, as you know it will run on that 'closed' by developer flight simulator, and screams on any present day system.Just musing....

Now that computing power is allowing us a smooth fsx experience with most sliders maxed and addons, I don't see any reason to move on yet to any new version that might come out sometime.Me too. I have purchased sooo many addons for FSX and see no reason to change anything. Regards,Stan
April 19, 201115 yr Hasn't changed anything for me, but that's mostly because I don't purchase many add-ons. I'm looking forward to Flight, and I hope it's what we all want, but the only thing that will get me to switch is a nice new PMDG plane.
April 19, 201115 yr There are so many great payware add-ons, coupled with new hardware to run it well, that I don't care if Flight is ever released.Let's just say that I don't intend to go through he same thing that I went through for FSx9 & FSX.FSX is working great for me right now and my focus will be on simply enjoying what I have with some new planes, airports, and FTX NZ. April 19, 201115 yr Got to say FSX works for me at the moment, unless MS has made massive leaps in the quality of the default aircraft, weather and scenery then it will be a few years after release before I would even consider it.....G Gary Davies aka "Gazzareth" Simming since 747 on the Acorn Electron
April 19, 201115 yr let me hazard a guess....How about it will mimic the railworks2 business model in which you will pay for every extra add on, and there will be NO freeware sitesand it will be ported for xbox 360/epic failstay with the best - FSX :)
