April 28, 201115 yr It's amazing I never noticed this before. I like to use Bloom--for me it's Kodachrome! I also like to toggle mouse-look on and off, so that means I often times have the mouse pointer 'active'--ie, I can see the mouse pointer in other words. As you know, the mouse pointer disappears on its own after so many seconds of inattention. Well, here's the interesting discovery:When the mouse pointer is active/visible in FSX, performance when Bloom is on is SEVERELY impacted. As soon as the mouse pointer auto-disappears, performance DOUBLES, or nearly so. I was locked at 30 so can't quite be sure, but it's dramatic. Of note, if you leave the menu bar visible on the top of FSX, you can leave the mouse pointer on top of it, and it effectively makes the system perform as it the mouse pointer had disappeared. This is a huge finding for me as I really like bloom. Check out this .jpg which shows w/ and w/o the mouse pointer visible. You can't see the pointer in each shot and bloom effect is identical too, and trust me that's how it happens. Goes from FPS of 18 w/ Bloom on, to FSP locked at 30 w/ Bloom on.If anyone can think of a way to lose this interaction w/o having to either avoid using the mouse, or somehow change how mouse/bloom interact that would be greatly appreciated.Enjoy!Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. April 28, 201115 yr Commercial Member It's not just related to bloom Noel. I don't use bloom (not enough free framerates) but I first noticed this behaviour with the RealAir Duke where the framerates would dramatically drop when the mouse pointer is active and jump back up again when the mouse disappeared. Now that I am aware of it I notice it more in other aircraft. Just another one of those quirks of FSX I guess :) www.antsairplanes.com

April 28, 201115 yr Have you tried changing either the scheme or the pointer style in the control panel / mouse properties? Just a thought, especially if a "aero" scheme is selected for the pointers.Roman FS RTWR SHRS F-111 JoinFS Little Navmap
April 28, 201115 yr My system reacts the opposite; as soon as the mouse pointer disappears my frame rates dip (note that I do not use bloom). The most noticeable is with FS9 native aircraft in FSX, in this scenario my frame rates drop by over 30% with the disappearance of the mouse pointer! I have tried both full screen and windowed mode with the same results.Regards, Mike Mann Mike Mann
April 28, 201115 yr I don't have any difference whether mouse pointer/menu bar is showing or not.I'm sure I read elsewhere that this is related to graphics card/drivers.
April 28, 201115 yr I have this mouse issue too...without bloom. With RealAir's Duke it's more noticeable, but happens with a couple of other add-ons. Mauricio Brentano
April 28, 201115 yr I have the same issue with the Duke. I use a second monitor for the 430 and 530XP and on my system I just keep the mouse parked on the second monitor when not in use and my frame rates jump back to 30 locked. It's a gr8 discovery thought because as I say, I fly w/ my hands on the mouse to I can mouse look as it were. Costly habit in terms of perf impact. That issue is in the Aerosoft A320 too, it became so annoying I ended up deleting the aircraft.PMDG jets are clear of this issue.Interesting.
