July 8, 201114 yr Just out of curiosity, will there be a separate flap sound when you are in the wing view? Thanks,Robert DeichertHi Robert,I mentioned a while back that this was not possible due to FSX limitations because the flap sound on the wing view would also play back in the cockpit, which would not be realistic. However - we have moved this funtionality to our custom programming and I am very happy to say that we have just added the flap sound to the wing view!!!! Big big thanks to RSR for this one!!! :( In addition to the wing view flap sound we have added a whole bunch of other new sounds today, focusing on the audio ambience at the gate - sounds like the hydraulic pumps, fuel pumps, APU and various ground equipment - these sounds will be familiar to passengers flying with Low Cost Carriers where they ask you to board the aircraft without a jet bridge!! :( Armen L CholakianPMDG Sound Engineer
July 8, 201114 yr Every single switch and device that makes a unique sound was recorded in the real cockpit with professional condenser mics. This soundset is extremely nice, I think you all will be very impressed.Out of curiosity, did you use small diaphragm condensers like the Neumann 184? Shane Gavin
July 8, 201114 yr audio ambience at the gate - sounds like the hydraulic pumps, fuel pumps, APU and various ground equipment ...This is something I've been missing for a very-very long time...Good job people...The sounds are something that is often neglected by other developers. I think though that the sound set is equally important for the whole experience. As usual seems like PMDG are nailing this one too. Regards, Martin Martinov / VATSIM 1207931
July 8, 201114 yr I once read that the Blades, rotate faster than the speed of sound...Is this true?Someone with a definate answer might wanna chime in here. Actually I had the same question just a couple days ago when I read the max RPM of the older CFM56-3 on some other forum, was around ~5500 RPM, can't recall the exact number. Anyways, I got really curious too and got the fan diameter from Wiki. A rough estimate gave me a tip speed of well over M1, I believe it was around M1.3 or so. Could be bad math, but I'd really like to have a correct answer too. However - we have moved this funtionality to our custom programming and I am very happy to say that we have just added the flap sound to the wing view!!!! The WW flap sounds should certainly be distinctive... :( Packs and stuff are also pretty loud and nasty, for instance when you stand in the MLG while they are running and no protective ear equipment. I'd need a bunch of louder speakers to replicate all of this LOL. :(
July 8, 201114 yr If I recall correctly, that was a limitation of FSX they just had to deal with. Something to do with the amount of animations allowed, which were already taken up somewhere else on this incredible aircraft model.Aahh thats a shame... July 8, 201114 yr Wondering if you can hear the thud when the landing gears are deployed and that rattling sound when the aircraft touches the ground in wing view.Vinod.Well I'm truely wondering how ground roll will be like, as well as touch down. Lift off and touch down is pretty much "ground roll sound off" and "ground roll sound on" in default FSX, and a bad sound as well. I just dearly hope it's not even close to how the stock sounds are. :(
July 25, 201114 yr Ben -As for the wing views - yes. I discovered a way to create a third soundset in FSX just for the wingviews, so you will get that sound experience you are looking for from seat 27F !!! ;) So unlike most other FSX aircraft our wingview sounds much more like the cabin rather than sounding like the outside view sounds.I just added another unique sound which you mainly hear on the wing views - when you begin the idle descent from cruise altitude the engines throttle back and you hear a different type of sub bass rumble - its a very low deep rumble which is very distinct and you mainly hear it during descent. If you have a sub woofer system you may notice your teeth shaking with this sub bass rumble !!!! We might have to add a health and safety warning to prepare you for this effect! :( Cheers,Wow, I was on a recent real world flight in a Delta 800 NG from KSLC to KPHL, and I was also seated in THE EXACT SAME SEAT, 27F!!!I specifically chose that seat so that I was behind the wing, and at a sufficient distance from the trailing edge so I could see some more scenery. I know first hand that sound you reference to when the descent starts. In FSX you just hear the engine whine/bass retard, but on the flight I was surprised to hear that pronounced rumble, it was so distinct that my father seated next to me asked if we were starting descent. I wasn't able to discern a change in the packs sounds with changes in thrust on the ground in the NG, but I did notice this change very distinctly on my other legs in a Delta MD90, which no doubt was easier to hear because I was seated way ahead of the wings and engines. I'm sure like most people, the minute I install the NGX I will be spending plenty of time not flying, but just taking in the sounds, the views, the environment of my surroundings in the cockpit AND the cabin. I don't imagine being in a rush to get into the air as with previous addons, this is going to be like viewing a piece of art displayed in a museum and I will be taking my time enjoying the nuances of the new bird. July 25, 201114 yr Currently about 320MB with an optional extra 270MB download for the worldwide terrain database. Liveries are around 20-25MB a piece now because of the higher resolution.Just curious... do the liveries have the same installer as the 747 and MD11? I don't know if it's just on my system or not, but one of the things that always irritates me on that installer... once you've "next"ed through to the actual install/uninstall process, it hangs around 30 seconds before quickly installing the files and finishing up. It's enough that they get backed up when I'm trying to add or remove them en masse.Of course, it's not any worse removing all of my addons and going for a clean install of FSX. I'll thank me later but it's really a drag... making sure I got everything, and that all my license keys are in order. Last time, I wasn't so careful and had to remove some by hand and clean up some stray registry entries, and dig through old emails to find a few keys on reinstall.
