August 2, 201114 yr XBox gamer dies from blood clot after marathon sessonhttp://www.foxnews.c...test=latestnews Could this be coming to flight simmers? The release of the long awaited PMDG 737NGX could result in an outbreak of DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) cases due to the simmer's inability to get up out of his virtual captains seat, caused by the acute NGX addiction! Upon release of the NGX, I'm not expecting to see daylight for weeks! ;) ;) Matt Salo - Minneapolis, MN, USA (KMSP & KFCM) - My Flight Blog * PP-ASEL / 1981 C172P & 1982 C172P * Virtual Pilots Association
August 2, 201114 yr Wow. I don't understand how anybody can play games for a long period of time without taking breaks. When I fly online, I constantly get up and walk away from my computer. Same thing goes for my Xbox whenever I play for a long time. God rest his soul. August 2, 201114 yr If you take regular breaks every couple of hours, you should be fine. James Schoenrock
August 2, 201114 yr Occasionally taking a break while playing a console video game is a very good habit. Flight Sim, however, is a bit different. While other video games require constant input during gameplay, thus keeping you glued to your seat, Flight Sim works differently. The only time when you are really glued to the seat is during takeoff, approach and landing. During cruise flight (which is the longest portion of the flight) I get up and go see a movie or do something else. If i'd fly online, i'd keep close to the computer to hear ATC calling. Even so, Flight Sim is conducive to getting up and moving about. Cristi Neagu
August 2, 201114 yr On the long flights of 4hour or more, it is a set and forget flight, I do get up a lot or am gone doing stuff. Michael Pare Extreme Boeing 737NG fanatic

Works great, making a plate of hot wings with beer is also a good plan. Since my wife is working tonight and tonight is the last night of my holidays after I put my kids to bed this is exactly my plan. Mike Keigley
August 2, 201114 yr This is ironic, a member of family mentioned that I might get it due to the fact that I do a lot of flying. I thought it was something simply trivial 'yeah right' kindof thing, but after reading this, I'm definatly going to be taking more regular breaks. The VATSIM controllers are gonna love me. August 2, 201114 yr I wouldn't really say anyone could get blood clots from playing Flight Sim, because it's not as competitive as lets say World Of Warcraft or Call Of Duty.... But there are gamer's like "myself" who spend way too much time playing online games and you do feel the side effects or the strain after spending over 5 hours constantly playing. Its a very bad addiction but at the same time good because your having fun, and thats the main thing!
August 2, 201114 yr Does the fact that it is competetive have anything to do with it? EDIT: I guess you could say that the PMDG 737NGX Release is competetive, who's gonna get it installed first? :) David Collyer
August 2, 201114 yr Heard of that story before. I am starting grad school soon so I am waiting for my one month winter break in December to get my hands on the NGX. Will make sure to do lots of stretching and exercise before hand. Because with all the reading and work I will be doing before that. Nothing is going to be better then downloading that NGX that day I am done with my last final and sitting at the computer for hours and hours with the NGX But I agree with a lot of you guys. Currently I am doing Lagos-JNB in the Queen (744) Five hour flight. Had dinner, cleaned up some things, took the garbage out etc.. A few nights ago did MIA-Lagos took off at 12am in bed by 1:30am wake up at 10am for arrival. Steven Herzberg Steven Herzberg, "I rather be flying"
August 2, 201114 yr I'll only start to worry if PMDG releases a disclaimer with the NGX. :( Ethan Rayhorn My Office: (Taken at FL410)

The release of the long awaited PMDG 737NGX could result in an outbreak of DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) cases due to the simmer's inability to get up out of his virtual captains seat, caused by the acute NGX addiction! I once read on a website that they recommended wearing pantyhose or compression tights while gaming or sitting for extended periods of time. After reading that I told my girlfriend what the article said and we both just about fell over laughing, although since she used to work at Hooters she has a bag full of her old uniform pantyhose sitting in the closet in case I wanted to give it a shot. Needless to say I declined the offer and she said just as well and that if she ever came home and saw me flying the sim wearing a pair of pantyhose she would be out the door quicker than greesed lightning. August 2, 201114 yr Flight simulation gives you the opportunity to get up and move around (like while cruising on autopilot). The killer is sitting in one position for extended periods on time.Just stand up every now and then when on long flights, to keep the blood flowing. Robert Yunque
