Yes... another NGX comparison - NGX - vrs LVD 767

Featured Replies

As bad as I want to get the 737 NGX, I am a bit turned off by all the performance complaints I have been seeing. I see all kinds of posts where people are really having a hard time with it unless you have a beast of a FSX rig. So this brings me to my question. Those of you who have the Level D 767, how is the performance compared to it? As nice as the NGX looks, I dont want to shell out the cash if I cant get enjoyable performance like I can in the 767. How is the 737 NGX going into JFK/ATL/BOS/DFW ? I like to fly into the bigger hubs but not if I am going to get only 10 FPS like some have been seeing. All opinions are welcome and appreciated! Jim

PMDG figured out how to make an airplane that is more advanced and equal or better in terms of frame rates. I own and love both products, and my NGX beats my LDS frame rates by about 5 fps. Hope this helps. LuisKMIA

Ok. I have both planes and performancewise they are pretty much the same.Smooth and nice. I thought I'd get a good fps hit when flying the ngx but I was pleasantly surprised. It is actually smoother than the iflyware one too. But then again all systems are different so it's really hard to tell. Vic Edit: I have a I7980x-gtx480- w7 x64 which helps with more complex planes :)

Yeah, my levelD is about the same as NGX, and NGX has much more systems and fps eating things... (HGS, terrain etc)

I have a system similar to yours Jim. The big issue with frame for the NGX is when the mosue cursor is present. I lose 10-15 frames right there, when I move the cursor over to the second monitor the frames go up. It's flyable for sure.

I don't have this cursor problem with the ngx and I did not have it with the ifly either. It's weird some of us have it and some others don't. I guess I'm lucky.

It's amazing how scattered it is. I lose about 6-7 frames with the iFly NG, and about 5 with the PMDG NGX. I have enough power that I don't really notice it.

Very similar FPS I'd say - to be fair to the LvlD, it was a smooth performer on release; it didn't benefit from the i7+ machines we have today. I doubt I'd say they ran as smoothly as each other, if I was still using for my NGX the PC I had when I bought the 767.

Your PC is a bit better then mine and I can run the NGX quite well. 20-30 FPS, but completely smooth. I also have the Level D and while the Level D is amazing with frames, the NGX is great with all the added features.

Very good post. Informative and useful without the usual insults. I expected a blood bath and was pleasantly surprised. I haven't purchased the NGX just yet. I will purchase next week when I'm off from work and can spend a lot of time reading the manuals and kicking the tires before a 1st flight. Maybe take her from KSAT to KIAH. I finally purchased credits for Navigraph and will use the two excellent products together for an "as real as you get" experience. Regards to everyone.

Most of the replies above were from folks using an i7 CPU. I have both products, and with my Q9300 quad-core CPU there is a distinct difference in frames. The LDS 767 gets about 30-40% better fps than the PMDG. The PMDG NGX is excellent, but you need the right hardware to run it.

Are you using limited frames?

Hi.. << As bad as I want to get the 737 NGX, I am a bit turned off by all the performancecomplaints I have been seeing. I see all kinds of posts where people are really havinga hard time with it unless you have a beast of a FSX rig >> I bought the 737NGX since I hope to upgrade shortly. It runs on my system- and I am very, very surprised. I get very few problems, the odd visual (Airframeskeleton for a few seconds when switching to Outside view, and a slow virtualcockpit refresh when switching from 2d view). A few extra frames would be nice... It is very fliable - I even run it with my second 'moving map' monitor on myGTS450 Graphics card with no problems at all.I'm getting up to 15-17fps at altitude but down to 7-8 fps on landing atEHAM R18, on that excellent PMDG Tutorial - thanks guys. Still fliable.I'm looking forward to seeing this bird on a faster rig !I'm also using ******* Bojote's CFG.
