I really REALLY like XP10's FM. It feels like your flying! If its accurate or not, I dont know since I dont have any real stick time in anything other then the SportStar. I would say I like the "feel" of XP's flight model more then FSX. The biggest problem is that nice FM is wrapped in the most complex UI system I have ever seen. It truly seems they HATE new users. Even so far as making the "buy now" link almost the same color as the background. Its like they dont want new users? If the UI was better, and the price was not 80$, I would totally get XP10.I love the XP fans. "Once you get use to the UI, its really easy!". Im sure it would, but I want to fly, not learn a fricking UI system!

IMO, this idea of sloping runways in flight simulators is well overrated. Maybe real world pilots appreciate it, but I prefer them to be flat (apart from a handful of exceptional ones, like Lukla).
do you also think rain and clouds are overrated?

I understand that some people want sloped runways, and that's fine. It's just that it has never been a big deal for me.

I hope it does not sound rude, but....You want it to fly. That also means you are looking forward to further improvements to be made like with any version run of X-Plane (version 9 is now at 9.72). So you are basically talking years (like how long do you use FSX now?).And then you say that having to get used to the UI, wich - YES! - might take a day (definately not 10mins like the demo für newcomers) is the no.1 show stopper?I don't know. I respect the opinion and the wish to have an immediate satisfying experience. But we're not talking about beeing thirsty and having a coke. At least I know for sure that after version 8 and 9 I want to use version 10 for some years, too. And my setup is various Goflight stuff, Saitek stuff, yoke, rudder, iPad, iPhone ..... it is possible, and X-Plane is flexible - and actually quite easy once used to it, yes, true. Easy from day1 or 10mins demo? no way.

That, as a professional software developer, is what I call flawed product. Doesn't matter what the product is... seriously. If the user interface is so convoluted as to be anything but intuitive... then the product is flawed. For all software the #1 test of saleability is a term called "ease of use". If it's very complex and difficult to grasp because it does not 'intuitively' guide the user towards the task/features they seek... then it's a failure. This applies to all software. It's not about 'X-Plane'... as in I'm not trying to 'bash' 'X-Plane'. I'm just telling you that the UI is the single most important part of any sofware package. Always has been, always will be.Dismissing user's complaints regarding a UI is "development suicide".

I played with Xplane 9 for several hours and I couldn't even figure out how to set up my joystick. The XP series has the most awful looking UI I have ever seen. I couldn't figure out how to do really anything with it..... ROFL

Absolutely correct. Can't STAND the UI on XP10 and 9 - It's looks like something they whipped together in a few minutes... LOL

Interesting...Considering all the scorn and abuse Microsoft is taking here on the Flight forum for wanting to make their product more appealing to the casual user while at the same time retaining all the details that us enthusiasts want, I am (tongue-in-cheek) surprised to read that people want the X-Plane user interface to be made easier. On one hand, there are folks sounding the death knell for MS Flight because Microsoft wants to improve the user interface and functionality of the sim, and on the other hand folks are criticizing X-Plane for NOT improving the arguably complex user interface.I find this to be... interesting. That's all. :)-Greg

At first the ui seems difficult-until you realize it is just different from what one is used to for years. Kinda like converting from a pc to a mac-just different. Once you get used to it it really is not that hard-and the joystick setup is much more reliable and powerful-kinda like having fuispc built in to the interface. Could it be made better and a little more intuitive-sure.

right; it's about power in user's hand and flexibility. But sure that's what makes it complex.

Don't know what to say. You choose the axis you want to configure (like pitch and roll) in the corressponding pop-down. repeat for the rest. done.I'd like to help to get started, but maybe questions are really better asked in the X-Plane section of Avsim before people here feel anoyed.screenshot example: Rudder Pedals. Breakes and Yaw.

I have no interest in Xplane products... It looks like a sim from 10 years ago! LOL.gif

And I' not convinced that you are right ;). But I have no interest to talk you into it. Enjoy what you have!

Lets' see... 10 years ago... 2001... So I assume FS2000 was capable of this?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DSb4LN2jK8http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OpWLcA7DMwDo not make uninformed and unfounded claims.Marco

The Xplane world is so dull and fake looking.... Never EVER will I switch to that clunky peice of software.... MS Sims are FAR more realistic. I am a student pilot and with addon aircraft, handling is much better than Xplane ever will be.
