Initial review of Demo (Beta?)

I think next time if you find something bad about x-plane, shhh...... don't say it here. If you find something good about x-plane, yes! speak loudly here!
This is not the problem, Oliver. Some points of the OP are pertinent. But he makes a lot of common mistakes here.He makes some negative points in some aspects he is not well informed. example :
the ai aircraft models are pretty terrible in both shape and texture
. The AI aircraft are the same the user can fly. And one can chose them in the "Aircraft and operations" item.He pushes all negative points to the extreme, apparently to give more weight to his "review". Yeah, those flight models are "HORRIBLE and UNREALISTIC", not less. Well, I'm sure he tried them all, and all flew like arcade ! Default flight models in X-plane are generally not excellent, that's a known fact. But to my knowledge, none of them deserves the bunch of extreme adjectives he SHOUTED.Ok, I can understand that he personnaly doesn't like some feature at first sight. For example, the cities layout will not please everyone. And even keep away some potential customers. But the worst of all is that he claims to be a prophet :
I can't see simmers flocking to XP10 in numbers greater than the previous versions of XP and that means that they still won't get the developers to flock over to XP at numbers needed to make it a viable alternative to FSX / Flight.
This kind of claim has been made a number of times, by some MSFS users in this XP forum. This is not acceptable. Nobody knows what the future will be. And in one single false conclusion, the OP denies to X-plane 10 any potential, expandability, versatility. All qualities that are the big point of this version. This is not acceptable to us X-plane insiders who have seen X-plane evolution between and during each version. Don't tell a child : "you won't grow up because you have red hair, and nobody likes red hair". This is not only stupid but extremely offensive. I suspect all of his argumentation was build only to put himself in the first place with his "well informed" judgment.Pascal

Peter is referring to "active camera". It's not a position in the cockpit. I lets the cockpit amimation, such as siderails, move in comparison to a static and motionless cockpit against an outside scene. It makes the concept of VC's seem much more real.It was introduced by third parties in FS9, and became standard with FSX
Introduced in X-Plane 9, before it was standard in MSFS. Go to the menu Views->Toggle Cinema Verite. Now 3D cockpit view should move in response to g's.Marco

Confirmed. I tried it before I posted.Works great!
Sorry, I edited my post to appear "less hostile" (for those that think I am hostile)Sure, you could say X Plane will always be in "beta". It's always being refined, optimized, added to. But let's be fair here. This is the very first public RC of X Plane 10. And it is being treated by many as a final release. "oh this is bad, and this is crap, and this terrible and because of all this, I won't be getting it and FSX will always RULE".
GoranM,I've watched this forum for months now and the bottom line is this.....90% of the FSX sycophants will never have a favorable opinion about XPlane..... any version.I often wonder why you guys spend so much time and energy trying to convert these people....it ain't gonna happen I've flown the Demo and it shows HUGE Promise! I think a better approach for you to take in this situation, if you think it will really make a difference at AVSIM, is to create a new thread with your own "review" of the Demo instead of keeping this biased one alive.XPlane 10 is here! Their beloved Flight is probably a year away from being completed and they been given the middle finger by Microsoft as far as any real info or community involvement in it's developement etc.....They don't like it! For a good laugh have a look at the Flight forum at Avsim and then realize that those posts are created by grown men.... wow.The Xplane demo speaks for itself.Let's all give Laminar Research the needed feedback to get the tweaks to the new graphics engine finished along with any other needed adjustments and revel in the fact that there's a "New Sheriff in Town"..... and it's name is XPlane 10!Craig

Speaking for myself, I just want to make sure any misconceptions held by a certain few people are corrected. Unfortunately, when I do this, I'm labelled "hostile" by some. I often ask myself "why am I trying to make people have an open mind" when it's blatantly obvious they don't, won't or can't. Sucker for hard luck cases, maybe?

Other than better ATC, Microsoft can rest easy, no threat here.

The real problem is that reviews in this early stage are unwarranted. If you have legitimate gripes or failures, send them to Laminar, they expect you to. It's beyond me how anyone can make final assumptions on any piece of software on such short analysis. To refresh your memories, Mike stated, and I quote, "So even though there is an eagerness for a new primary sim in the community I highly doubt that XP10 is it since I just can't see the flock of 3rd party developers coming over in droves which will be what is needed to make it a lasting success."So according to Mike's extensive testing, this simulator is DOA, period. Let's wait, before making any assumptions, as to what the final outcome will be. Give Laminar a real chance to prove that all their hard work has not been in vain. I think they deserve at least that much. XPX as is , certainly isn't perfect, and the beta demo doesn't help us help them. Laminar needs to extend the time limit to at least 30 minutes if anyone is to make valid, rational comments on it's behavior. Now with all that being said, g'night! Yawn.gif
where do you read "final assumptions" in his opinion?

Yeah, the HDR lighting is definitely much better in FSX.Applause.gif

you would have more success with your goals .. if you watch the tone of you responses. Normally, when you are upset, it comes across in your posts.
Didn't your parents ever tell you about assumptions?
Well then maybe you should stop to consider how you come across. And even after all these posts attempting to defend yourself, I still have no idea exactly what you find so objectionable about the OP's comments.

And how do I come across? Do I come across as hostile to you to? It seems that most people don't see any hostility. Maybe you're just insecure and, in that case, I truly apologize if I seem hostile towards you.I still have no idea why people who dislike x plane so much continue to come to the x plane forums. So I guess that makes us even.Have a great day!
That was exactly my point. The review seems to be disguised as a personal and biased opinion. That's why I wanted to see his other reviews...if he has done any. Thanks for the kind words! They are very much appreciated. That's all I want from the naysayers. A legitimately open mind. I'm all for discussion. As long as it's rational and open minded.
You need a better argument .... all reviews are "personal and biased". To have a none personal or biased review, it would have to be done by a computer... so as long as humans do reviews .. they will be personal and biased.
popcorn.gif if I may, Mike gave his opinion on what he think is XP-10 from what he experienced and saw from a BETA DEMO without pics. or vid. to back up is own review and he as the right to do so but at the same I understand Goran trying to explain where he think the OP whent wrong with is review. We are all gulty of doing the same with Flight, we all think (at least some of us) that Flight will be Hawaii only and we will have to buy other part of the world to fly over, and MS as yet to release a BETA DEMO of Flight....pffff??So here is how I see it, we are all simmers here and I think that telling Laminar where we think XP-10 should improve is a good thing but one thing is sure...we will never be 100% pleased unless we get everything we want, so a lot of us will keep bitc***Edit: Goran, as hard as you are trying to explain your side of the story or how you see it you will never have the last word, trust me on that...I've learned this from my wife......mallet_s.gif
