Initial review of Demo (Beta?)

You could always install the scenery in sections over different days. And it will ship on 8 DVD's. X plane 9 took 5 hours on 6 DVD's.
Goran,These guys are just bored and looking for a reaction from you. I'm assuming you must know that. I don't think there are many folks from the "outside world" viewing this thread so it might be time to give it a rest. Awesome that Laminar Research was able to port Xplane to the handheld devices.....with all these new inroads with the 3rd party developers and a brand new release of XPlane 10 on the horizon it's driving these guys nuts after the treatment they have received from Microsoft. I emailed Xplane tech support with a demo question and I had a response in less than 2 hrs!As you know.....Ben Supnik has already posted info on optimization strageties going forward along with tips for gathering data so that Laminar can fine tune the engine etc....We are extremely lucky to have such a responsive company developing Xplane..... they listen and give a crap about the customer. What does the FSX crowd get...??? the middle finger and silent treatment..... what a contrast.!!Let the software speak for itself man....... I think anyone with half a brain will be able to pick up on the worthy information in your posts..Keep it positive and ignore the trolls..... they just want to see a reaction from you.Craig

Exactly. So it's safe to say his "review" raised more debate and questions than anything else. There is always a way to say things and I'm afraid his choice of words through most of the review was not what I would expect to see in other, professionally written reviews.
I absolutely take your point Goran but the problem with public demo/beta is exactly the fact that they are public - people ARE going to form opinions - good and bad, right or wrong, justified or not and they are also going to post those opinions in public forums like this - and I for one think all of this debate is a GOOD thing.RegardsSteve

again .. attacking. And you wonder why folks call you "hostile". I have bought all Xplane versions (I keep hoping it will get better) .... I do not have any payware for xplane.
Shame. You're missing out on some very nice add ons. Why would you buy X Plane instead of trying the demo first if it's that bad and you keep hoping it will get better?Kinda defeats the purpose of having a demo, dont you think?

Of course I know they want a reaction. Like I said, I'm a sucker for hard luck cases. That on top of sitting at my computer for 18 hours a day building 3D models. Gets kinda boring and tedious sometimes so I try to liven my day up a bit.Whistle.gifBut yes, you're right. Time to get back to work.

Stevecriticisms are perfectly fine. When they are rational. But some words that are used are just idiotic.
LOL, ok. Respectfully and kindly asking and I'm attacking again. Are you really THAT insecure?
Respectfully asking what payware he uses is fine. A parenthetical comparing him to your ex on PMS was unnecessarily hostile.
This is just a general thought here, so don't take it as if i'm trying to be rude, but do you think X-Plane has been rushed and launched way to early just so it doesn't miss "another" deadline that was promised? I was surprised when Austin was presenting X-Plane 10 at FSWeekend and he saids it was the first time every part of X-Plane had been put together to make the full product, and were now what only 2-4 weeks on and the demo has been launched. It just feels that no proper Alpha or Beta testing has been done, otherwise they would of picked up on these mistakes.I also feel that there was little PR before release, all we got was updates on the news feed on X-Plane.com, which is quite hard to find as well. There were no trailers, no videos showing all the protential XP 10 has to offer, it was only when they launched the demo did they include some new screenshots, but that was about it. I just feel i'm paying for a simulator I have very little knowledge about. They should of built X-Plane 10 up a bit, like most companies do, instead of me going "o WOW this is amazing, this looks like a whole new X-Plane, can't wait to buy it!" i'm actually just feeling like its an update to X-Plane 9 because of such little excitement that was made during the launch of X-Plane 10.Overall I think X-Plane 10 was rushed, so that it could be launched before Christmas as it would be embarrassing to miss another deadline again, and so they could get those Christmas sales as well. It's sad because X-Plane 10 seems to have so much protential going for it and had the developers just done some proper Beta testing, ironed out the bugs, flaws and awful frame rate problem, X-Plane 10 could of actually of been put on par with FSX or better.Thats my two cents,Matt
Hi Matt,I think Laminar is gonna get this thing right..... no problem. I've run the demo for several hours.... There are a few optimization issues but I see more flashes of brilliance in the demo than show stopping problems. If Laminar would have called it a "Beta" instead of a "demo" maybe we would be having a different tone of discussion here in this forum.X-plane 10 is gonna rock..... believe me. They will button it up and it will fly.I've seen it with my own eyes on my machine. Craig

Oh wow. Ok. Well, it seems you know best.My sincerest apologies for comparing him to my ex on PMS?

From what I've gathered, Laminar Research considers the release version of X-Plane a public beta (although they don't advertise it as such and still charge you full price). Apparently version x.2 or x.3 is what would be considered gold quality by any other software developer. That said, they do have a good track record of continuing support and updates after the initial sale.Although from what I've seen of the XP10 demo/beta, it's really not any worse than any of Microsoft's offerings at release. I leave it to you decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
These guys are just bored and looking for a reaction from you.
Alternatively, Goran is bored and just looking for a reaction from us.At any rate, I was genuinely concerned about the time it would take to do a full install of XP10, but Goran's suggestion was actually very helpful and not something I had considered. I'm sorry I failed to mention that.

Always willing to help. Doesn't matter who asks for it.

LOL, ok. Respectfully and kindly asking and I'm attacking again. Are you really THAT insecure?Forgive me if I don't believe you have X Plane. It is what it is. I take things at face value. He said review. I take it as a review. Semantics has nothing to do with it. He should have said "First look".
I am very secure ... and I don't live to please you .. but I do have all versions. I need both versions to succeed (Xp and MSFS), I like having options. I have basically purchased all flight sims from the beginning fo PC flight simming.Aside: telling a man that you are talking to a PM'sing girl friend?? you dont see that.

No. When I say I feel like I'm talking to my ex on PMS, I meant I felt like I was walking on eggshells and I had to watch very carefully what I say so as not to offend. It just seems you are easily offended by interpreting everything I say as being "hostile".And I certainly would hope you don't live to please me. That would scare the crap out of me.
Oh, I see what he is referring to now. Doesn't XP10 have this now though? Being able to move in and out of the cockpit and around the cabin etc? Austin was doing it in his presentation in the 747.Cheers.Rhydian
"cinema verité" is the setting to have the camera move with the forces; I think that's what he was looking for. Been there for a long time. Also you can have more camera effects with Sandys Pilot View Plugin.(sorry if mentioned before; I don't want to read the whole thread, mostly filled with nonsense from various pro and contra parties).

These really nice addons just hit the scene .. I will purchase XP10, even though I dont believe its ready for prime time yet. I am am flight sim enthusiast, so I can help but buy all versions. I hope my support and others support of XP will one day for the fuel (money) that helps to get it right.

I bought my first payware plane for X-plane and have to say it changed my inpression of XP for the better. The only bad part is there so many crappy looking payware planes and only a few jems. Is there any tubeliner that can compete with FSX's offering, doesn't have to be PMDG/Ifly worthy.
