Am Going to be a Happy Sim FlyerToo bad that the (XP vs FS) always seems to hi-jack what could be useful threads.Anyway, I've doodled around with the XPX demo most of the day, and think that I am going to be a happy Sim flyer. First a bit of background. I've flown MSFS for as long as it's been out, and love my FSX set-up with Sim-Saavy's photo-res textures, and REX, etc, etc. Lot's of money into FSX and still fly it regularly.I purchased XP-9 a couple of years ago, tried it for a while...then forgot about it. Then, last month, in preparation for trying XPX, I talked with a few XP folks in this forum, who gave me tremendous advice to try Rollon's CRJ-200. Wow, for IFR flying in poor conditions, flying the CRJ in XP-9 has been a joy, and much more satisfying than FSX.So, with experience in both sims, I can honestly say I love them both--there should be nothing to fight about--they are different renderings of a complex challenge. But, after tooling around in XPX, I would agree that they have raised the bar to a new universe with their night rendering---flying into KSEA at night (clear 100 miles, or limited vis to 5) is a tremendous experience. Sunrise and sunset flying in XPX, coming through the cloud deck "up top" is very immersive, and though it's different than REX, in many ways it's more satisfying (flying into and above a true 3D cloud). With my i7-2600 at 3.4GHz, and Nvidia GeForxe GTX 570, I was able to maintain 30FPS around Seattle with "max roads", but with other settings pulled back just a bit...so the sim was very smooth under both clear and cloudy conditions, and the visual experience was much better than XP-9, and comparable to FSX-stock (heck...better than FSX stock).CAVU flight into the sun is great...super lighting effects and gleams--much cleaner than the bloom in FSX. Visibility can be set to 100nm as well...a super improvement over XP-9.I tweaked the joystick settings per my experience with XP-9, and was able to get the 747, Baron, and King Air to fly nicely, with a more "heavy" feel to them than perhaps folks flying "stock settings". Flying the 747 into a 600 foot ceiling with low visibility was great fun...and I could not see through the overcast or see the local airport fences through the clouds (a la FSX), so XPX will be a great IFR sim as well as a night simulator. So, for those folks that don't like the "plausible world", fly at night or IFR and forget about the textures you don't like (I would prefer to see some better urban-terrain colors--too much green in the urban XPX world. As new plug-ins are made available for XPX, and adjustments are made so my CRJ can fly in XPX, I imagine that I'll fly as much in XPX as in FSX, and more as new add-ons, textures, etc become available. In short, though I love FSX, I guess I am not monogamous anymore! :)BillKGYH

They are a bunch of babies.... plain and simple. Grown men acting like kids.If Flight bombs... you won't see a childish reaction from the X Plane user base. They're cut from a different cloth.Craig
Graig it's always wrong to generalize groups of people and is without knowing them actually real impolite ;-)Amazing to see the only my opinion counts attitude in this thread here... talking about biased lolWhy not have some respect from different views and opinions and as always "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"Have fun gentlemen in the virtual skies...

Nice post Bill,I keep finding more & more things about XPX that I love and I'm looking forward to V10.5 for even more fun!FYI Bill,Over on the X-Pilot's forum there's a video of the CRJ working in XPX.I would copy it over and give it a go.

I got notice today that my copy is shipping...Be aware there are some small issues in xp10-the spinning prop for one.
To all interested in purchasing the Carenado aircraft, PC Aviator has a 15% discount this weekend. That goes for all their flight sim software.
I will just give up! It took me 10mn to set my controllers yesterday and today it's back to zero? It was supposed to save the assignment...
You may be able to continue to set your keys and controllers after the ten minutes, and for as long as it takes to do so, I beleive, you just cannot fly with an autopilot on.although I have just came up with that idea after many 10 minute closures myselfal
..and what part did you not get about making it personal?
It's a 2 way street Geofa. This Xplane forum has always been a place where the moderators are lax in keeping the threads on message about Xplane....Why don't you become more involved in curbing and discouraging the posts by the anti XPlane agitators that are post here for no other reason than to cause discord and to disrupt the xplane forum dialog? These types of posts are responsible for 99% of the downhill spirals that many threads take.I've been reading this forum for years and this has been going on for years in here. The FSX forums are mostly free of these kinds of problems because the moderators won't tolerate it and most Xplane users aren't posting there. How bout it?. Enforce the rules I'll gladly be colateral damage if that's what it takes for you start doing your jobrespectfullyCraig

Sorry but you are off-the only thing we do not allow are personal attacks-and so far you are the one to do that.Discussion is fine.

agreed Geofa .. discussion is fine!Craig .. on the FSX forums you can read both good and bad posts regarding the MSFS software. XP shouldn't be any different!

Hi Mike,Thanks, for the mini review. I agree with most of the items you talk about, but I will reserve judgement until a non-beta version is released. Right now my flightsim of choice is Prepar3D.

Careful Craig. The sensitive ones will think you're getting hostile.Whistle.gif

I am having problems starting XP. It freezes after it starts loading the bitmap Heavy Metal/B747-400 United B747-400 prop_.png. and a white 1" rectangular box appears in the left bottom corner of the xp splash screen. Is it possible my video drivers need updating? I am running windows xp professional Intel core 2 quad CPU, @ 2.66, GHz 2.7 GHz2.99 GB of RAM and an ATI Radeon X1950 crossfire card.I have no problem running FSX loaded with add-ons. Any advise you may have will be greatly appreciated.

Might be best to send Laminar your log.txt file. X Plane writes a new one every time the sim starts. It will outline why it stops at that particular point. You can find it in the root x plane folder.
