December 11, 201114 yr Does anyone use RC4 ? If so, any views ? Do the ATC's sound realistic, or does it sound like tin? Functionality?Cheers
December 11, 201114 yr Very functional, ATC voices sound pretty realistic. It's not capable of controlling VFR flight, but it's very, very good. I've used it since it came out, and used RC3 before that. Main drawback is that it uses keyboard interface, rather than voice. December 11, 201114 yr The voices are not the best but there is a freeware package to help improve them here at avsim search for "meatwater" as mentioned there is no vfr, and no taxi instructions, I guess they are making a v5 to include these, but there has been no progress or mention of v5 for along time, other then that its a great program.
December 11, 201114 yr Very functional, ATC voices sound pretty realistic. That's encouraging, someone said the ATC sounded like 'Stephan Hawkins on mushrooms' and never gave it a second chance. Might look at this package closer. Thanks. Tristan Living in the beautiful Chilterns. December 11, 201114 yr I'd love to hear an example of RC4 with the meatwater mod in a video. Please provide a link if you have one. December 11, 201114 yr It's even better used with Multi Crew Experience as it allows you to speak to ATC. Stephen Munn
December 12, 201114 yr I usually get my dose of ATC from flying on VATSIM but I also used to fly with RC4 when I was in need of more traffic! However, I got so frustrated by ATC constantly urging me to turn here and there to get on track while I was all the time tracking the course perfectly, so I gave up on the program. Admittedly I never contacted the developer to find out what might have been the cause and if it was a common problem I suppose more customers would have been more verbal about it. In short, a huuge improvement over the default ATC. Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
December 12, 201114 yr Commercial Member I usually get my dose of ATC from flying on VATSIM but I also used to fly with RC4 when I was in need of more traffic! However, I got so frustrated by ATC constantly urging me to turn here and there to get on track while I was all the time tracking the course perfectlyThat happens when you've missed a waypoint, or not been close enough (an adjustable parameter), and have been instructed to turn back to cross it. You can ask to proceed direct of course to avoid turning back. I've used RC for many many years, all the way back to when it started as an "adventure" based script, and have never had any spurious or incorrect instructions like that which haven't been my fault, not listening, or not checking that the FMS hasn't cut a corner too much.RegardsPete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. December 12, 201114 yr It is indeed possibly a user error but the call to get back on course at times would be given even after I had received the "ding" when passing a waypoint and then continuing straight towards the next waypoint in LNAV mode flying the PMDG737. It never occured to me that it could be the FMS cutting corners. I also would get the call every single time having left the dep airport and flying towards the first waypoint (judging being on course from the magenta line on the ND). The heading instructions RC4 issued when it figured I was off course usually never made any sense to me. But as I wrote, if it was a commong issue, it would have gotten more attention. ALSO, I haven't used RC4 in a few years now so my memory definitely might be a bit corrupt! :D Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
December 12, 201114 yr there are a lot of video showing the capabilities of this software in youtube. just search for "radar contact" in youtube.
December 12, 201114 yr The videos I've seen have not convinced me to purchase Radar Contact 4. I have Proflight Emulator with the payware add on voices, but never got it to work. Support was not too helpful, so I reset my system and kept the default ATC and added Editvoicepack.I have been looking for an ATC add-on that resembles Flight Unlimited III. Maybe one day it will happen. MSFS

December 12, 201114 yr .... I guess they are making a v5 to include these, but there has been no progress or mention of v5 for along time, other then that its a great program. Bit of topic; I'm wondering if V5 will ever happen. As you state, it's been in development for a loooooooong time already and given the fact of '0' status updates for almost an equal looooooooooooong time, they are still far from completing it.Maybe they hit a big problem in coding which they can't get solved, who knows, but with MS-Flight and XP10 relatively around the corner, I fear people will start moving away from FSX starting in 2012 (not me!) making a potential market for RC5 smaller, making it less interesting to complete it (bit like the Flight1 Fokker VC..... anyone?).Maybe just a worst-case scenario, but I feel it would help if the developers could shed a little bit of light on the status of the development.
