December 12, 201114 yr The videos I've seen have not convinced me to purchase Radar Contact 4. I have Proflight Emulator with the payware add on voices, but never got it to work. Support was not too helpful, so I reset my system and kept the default ATC and added Editvoicepack.I have been looking for an ATC add-on that resembles Flight Unlimited III. Maybe one day it will happen.HelloWhat went wrong with PFE ?, Dave marsh is usually very good with support. If you need a hand getting it going let me know, I am sure you would enjoy PFE
December 12, 201114 yr HelloWhen you are using either Radar Contact or PFE the voices sound fine, possibly because of the added realism of the ATC systems and the workload in the cockpit, you never really notice anything wrong with the speech quality. They both sound fine to me especially PFE because of the regional accents which I really enjoy.Once you are familiar with either of these apps there is no going back to the default ATC.So you are sayaing I'll just get used to ATC sounding like Stephen Hawking on mushrooms? December 12, 201114 yr This. Also, if you're not in a hurry I'd wait for version 5 to come out.I'm one of those waiting, but it's been a very long time since I heard anything about how it's going.Has anyone any idea at all if we're talking months or years here?Ian
December 12, 201114 yr So you are sayaing I'll just get used to ATC sounding like Stephen Hawking on mushrooms?HelloNo I am saying that they do not sound like "Stephen Hawking on mushrooms" when you are actually using the product. For my own use I would rather have RC with its voices than be vectored all over the country by the default ATC.As a European who only flys in Europe I also prefer not to hear the ATC speak with an American accent, that to me sounds even less realistic, PFE really wins here with its regional accents and its speech is a bit better than RC also.Trust me, in the sim you would not find anything wrong with the voices.
December 12, 201114 yr Commercial Member I have and and all of the videos I found, as someone else said, sound like Stephen Hawking on mushrooms. I can't tell if they have the meatwater mod or not.Weird that, as all RC recordings are made by human volunteers. In fact some are folks I know and their voices are certainly all readily recognisable. I think they are all far better than the synthesised speech used by other ATC programs, unless you pay a lot extra for really good ones. The Meatwater ones are the same but processed through distorters and noise generators, supposedly to make them sound more "realistic" for radio receptions, but to me they are then virtually garbage. Perhaps they are designed to be realistic for World War I technology radios.RegardsPete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. December 12, 201114 yr One of the things I did to increase realism was to use VAC. I made a RC profile to respond to ATC orders. I played areound with RC to gather the all of the "number" responses and used VAC commands like roger to acknowledge, etc. Love the product and support is top notch. Visit the forum on this site. December 12, 201114 yr HelloWhat went wrong with PFE ?, Dave marsh is usually very good with support. If you need a hand getting it going let me know, I am sure you would enjoy PFEThank you. I don't want to hijack this thread, but to answer your question, I followed the installation instructions, created a flight plan, but when it came time to follow the commands, nothing happened. After three attempts and requests for help, I gave up. MSFS
December 12, 201114 yr A question from a noob: do all these ATC addons fully replace the default ATC....in terms of vectoring my AI traffic and assigning me a gate and so on? how do they work with WoAI for example?
December 12, 201114 yr I've had PFE for a long time, but don't use it very much these days. I also have RC4, but MUCH prefer PFE when I want ATC.Sadly, it does seem that the developer seems to have 'lost his way' a little with support. He use to be brilliant, but I even gave up trying to get (RE)registered on his support forum last time I needed help.I would say it's worth trying to get PFE running though. I have mine networked. Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
December 12, 201114 yr I have used RC4 a while but it doesnt cover all European call signs. I contacted the developer and he said in the next version that would be corrected. That has been over three years ago. Since it annoyes me that while flying over Europe I do not have the correct call signs, I have given up on it. PFE is said to be better for European fligths.Menno Menno i7-11700, 16GB, 1 TB SSD, 2 TB HDD, RTX 3070, Windows 11, MSFS 2020 DeLuxe, P3D 4.5
December 12, 201114 yr I use to be a long time user of RC4, but switched to PFE. If set up correctly, it does much the same as RC4 but better IMHO. The added voice sets you can purchase are outstanding and really increases the immersion factor. I use it on a networked PC (with "remote text" ) and is great. As others have said, great in eoropean airspace. Works just as good in US and rest of world as well. And accents appled in most regions. To me that is a big plus. December 13, 201114 yr I use RC4 and can't imagine flying without it now. Yes, the voices get a bit irritating but as others have mentioned, meatwater's freeware fixes that pretty well. Definitely a must have if you fly a lot of IFR. A question from a noob: do all these ATC addons fully replace the default ATC....in terms of vectoring my AI traffic and assigning me a gate and so on? how do they work with WoAI for example?Yes, RC controls AI as well, but no it doesn't assign you a gate or give you ground/taxi instructions at all. (It will just tell you to "taxi to the ramp" or "taxi to runway X.")
