Thank You Luis for adding to the discussion , you are quite right the contrary does not make any sense at all, until looked into a little further, done to spec each aircraft takes quite a while to do well, also deals have a way of falling through , and have during development from all indications , both during the infancy of Flight's game plan and getting content produced since, it’s a small industry, reading through the jobs being posted can tell insiders much , its been my observation smaller teams manage fairly high productivity, large ones have a way of getting tangled up in management and lawyers and that all takes time to sort out, I am hopeful due to the indications that the new addition to the Home Flight Hobby will turn into the win win I hoped it would , developers are the fastest way to get new content, the "flightcrew" will get a whole new world and MS will get 30% , no develpment costs or bottlenecks. This is too simple for them not to appreciate the option at some point in my opinion . Who knows what kind of content could be supported, it may well serve as a Sims kind of world eventually .

I don't see where 38% is "nearly half", but it is telling that in a forum that is supposed to be full of people who are loving Flight, only this many people cared to buy any DLC. It would be interesting to know just what DLC was bought in what percentages.
177 is 38% of the total responders, but 47% of the number of responders that have installed Flight.

It's a closed system, so you will see no 3rd party addons and no freeware. At least not in the next 1-2 years, if ever. You can only play what MS offers
I seriously doubt that. Just look at the Avsim front page to see that developers are still churning out content for FSX many years after release. MS knows this and to make its new sim totally closed would be shooting themselves in the foot. That said, they will need to keep control of what is released to stop competition with their own DLC. Exactly how they do this remains to be seen. My prediction: SDK released in the next 6 months for freeware (to spark interest). Some 3rd party add-on makers 'invited' to develop content for sale by MS (like Captainsim was for the X-load add-on for FSX-A). Payware makers limited somehow as to exactly what they are able to make (think: the way that apple limits developers from producing different mail clients for iOS).

Newbie. Since 2004....

Downloaded, installed, filled out all the MS marketplace yada-yada and flew all the training stuff. Yeah, it' nicer but really not THAT much nicer than FSX (when fully loaded with addon), especially considering it's now 6 years later. Until track-ir is supported along with a much fuller feature set, for now it's a novelty IMO.

In a way, its hard to blame them. Totally open ecosystems have proven to be just as likely to flood the pipe with hastily knocked off junk as high quality products. If I was MS, I would want to nurture and guide this new market like a parent guiding a baby's first steps, to make sure that it gets of to a good start.Unfortunately, this might preclude niche developers coming in with "off the mainstream" products that might scare away the very people who are currently being sought as customers.A year or two (as mentioned in a recent interview) sounds like a decent ballpark figure for guiding the new franchise along before allowing hordes of people who have been acting the way we have been acting free reign in the nursery.

For me so far, FLIGHT is an absolute blast. The missions that take you out over the tall peaks are truly beautiful. The Aero-Caches are extremely fun to collect and flying over new areas is a quite learning experience.FLIGHT has even taught me of the different areas of Hawaii and many of the geographic features spread out among the magnificent island chain.FLIGHT is great for my uses and I hope that others can uncover what I have discovered about this marvelous new platform.

Tom,I would be more interested in hearing you poll developers after about a month or so allowing those developers who participate in the poll to remain anonymous. Some of the items to poll would be,1) Having seen or read the input from simmers, has a developer changed their mind on Flight, its marketing potential?2) If given the option to provide content for Flight in the future would the developer be willing to work with MS as a co-op venture?3) If the developer could not dictate price what percentage of profit from item would they feel is acceptable and whats a point that its a deal breaker?4) Do developers feel Flight could open up an untapped market for them? You know things of that sort.

the popularity of the fs series is due to it's ecosystem. there is someting for everyone.currently i see no ecosystem for flight. it's a monoculture. just one provider and everybody is playing exactly the same game.a dlc every now and then will not make an ecosystem out of it.such a game can be very popular, a lot of fun and a huge success too.it's a valid product. but it's someting entirely different.and one more thing: i consider it very unfortunate that we can't have the new platform for our ecosystem. because it seems to have what we would have expected from FS XI.

I voted no on the dlc aswell, but if they gave me a chunk of Alaska and a good rendition of a Beaver perhaps, personally I think Flight would have been more accepted if they started off in Alaska, with all the tv shows and the bush flying etc.
I absolutely agree with you.

Another one of the many MS-corporate bull, restricting live access. However, this did not prevent a lot of people I know using a supported country for registration (you can easily find some hotel's address and postal code). They even got helped at MS support line when they had issues (explained why they used the different reg. address) - that happened for XBL, I see no reason it would be different for GFWL, same platform, different acronym.

Tnx for tip. Will try it. Altho it's funny. As they wouldn't want to sell product.
