April 16, 201214 yr I have returned to FS9 after trying out Flight for the past few weeks. Unfortunately, my video card does not meet the minimum requirements for Flight and so it does not play well on my rig. However, FS9 performs very smoothly and, I have to say, I had forgotten how good FS9 is. It is really nice to have a whole stable of good aircraft to choose from again. And also to be able to fly in my own country again. Plus the add-on clouds which I use are just so much better than what is in Flight.
April 16, 201214 yr FS9/FSX...there are attributes for both, I have both and the only thing FSX brings to the table for me is a round world and the music, (still like FS2000 intro the best). If I could change one thing in FS9 that would be it, round globe, I fly alot of polar routes and FS9 does prohibit some shorter routes. However, that in itself will not drive me to FSX. I have been playing w/ FSX, but I find to many issues w/ it. My machine is more then capable, I guess I just don't want to spend the time to master all it's functions as I have FS9 not to mention the dollars invested. But maybe someday we will be blessed w/ a new sim which does not carry all the baggage of either of the current sims. Something which will incorporate all the finest of both FS9/FSX as well as bring many new functions. :Bug:
April 16, 201214 yr I use FSX/FS9 X-Plane 9.7 / X-Plane 10 Demo, out of all these I mainly use FS9 & X-Plane 9 and that's because they both run smooth on my system and make the feeling of flight far more realistic than I can achieve with FSX or X-Plane 10, by time I've reduced the settings of both X version enough to get smooth flight they both look worse than the 9 versions which kinda defeats th object somewhat, so for me the 9's win hands down with my current system and until I can afford a top notch PC that's the way it'll stay. I do use FSX now and then cus I have A2A's spit which I love so having to lower everything to fly that baby is worth it. FS9 & REX looks great BTW, flew out of Seattle at dawn the other day and the sky was gorgeous. Cheers Martin. :Money Eyes:
April 16, 201214 yr i'm not abandoning fsx, both are awesome and i will keep supporting them. Next, you can test P3D. I still fly, enjoy (alot), purchase aircraft and scenery for FS9.1 too. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
April 16, 201214 yr Every time I read the FSX forums, all I see are poor FPS/shutter posts Hello People tend to see what they want to see. The truth is though, that todays mid range hardware runs FSX very well
April 16, 201214 yr Commercial Member Sigh. Is it that wrong for people to enjoy both platforms without stirring the pot? This is almost like FS9 and FSX running for public office and trying to sway a swing voter. April 16, 201214 yr i'm not abandoning fsx, both are awesome and i will keep supporting them. ------------------------------------------ You Go! I have always used the following for these reasons: 1. FSX for G.A. and the odd Heavy Iron flight. 2. FS9 for most/main Heavy Iron usage. I support both with purchases to this day. When picking up Orbx PNW stuff for FSX last week, I also picked up Zinerteck's Ultimate Water for FS9. With FS9, I get a constant no-dip 60 FPS no matter what scenery, add-on, or airframe I choose. I also find (personal taste applied) that FS9 (with my custom terrain and ground textures, etc) gives more realistic ground textures in all cases at the FL's than even FSX! So....I would not delete either for any reason to date. I'm having a blast with both. You will too! Enjoy the flight, no matter from what platform, or software, if it pleases you to do so! Mitch
April 16, 201214 yr On a side note, i have a "simple" laptop that runs FSX at 1920x1200 with minor stuttering with addon sceneries, NGX, the works. Sometimes when there's heavy weather i get some stuttering, but that's normal on a lappie. My desktop is a whole different story though. FS9 is just TOO old, i can't even look at it anymore I would be very interesting in your definition of fluidity. In FS, I consider a smooth animation with at least 35 to 40 FPS. Below you can feel that it's not running fast enough! I'm still running fs9 with my i7 850 and my ATI 5850, because under FSX (no tweak) I run a poor 20 FPS at Ajaccio for example with few clouds (REX2). Each version of FS are confortably flyable around 5 years after it has been released...it's a shame! So, it is old, but with the very good sceneries like the German airports, Vienna...etc, it is visually better than FSX with my configuration...so I can understand her post! It's gonna open another topic: the use of multicore CPUs, I have a quad core CPU which is not used at 100% of its capacity with FS! Why?
April 17, 201214 yr I don't care about FPS, i only care about what smoothness i can attain and see. On my main computer i'm doing a LSZH-VHHH leg right now and i am having a constant 55fps throughout the flight, limited on the NVIDIA driver. I am using REX 4096 clouds, IVAO weather as i only fly online and LOD 7.00000. My FSX runs off SSDs, so there's no lag at all loading scenery and even on takeoff with Aerosoft's scenery installed for LSZH i had a constant 40+FPS (which, like i said, i don't care about as it's silky smooth). My CPU is jumping between something like 25-45%, HyperThreading is enabled but only cores 0 and 2 are seeing some action. Don't ask me why all cores aren't being used (FSX is an old app too, not only FS9), but it seems to be enough to cope. Some friends of mine with a Core2Duo and some help from me to make their FSX better can't get even near my performance and they have lower resolution displays. I can only see some stuttering if i load up an old airport, usually converted from FS9 and not FSX optimized, old aircraft model for the same reasons and turn on some heavy weather. Latest optimized models and sceneries all fly by my eyes at over 40fps and all silky smooth and i have a 27" 2560x1440 monitor. This is why i can't go back to FS9, i have stunning visual quality, no stuttering anywhere in the world and access to the latest sceneries and aircraft. Yes, it's an expensive machine, but it's well worth it if you're serious about your hobby and won't let you down. I wasn't telling stories when i said above there's only 3 or 4 tweaks i used to make this "fly". it is visually better than FSX with my configuration...so I can understand her post! With FSX running very low settings i can believe that, but you should see FSX at its best, it's another world. Now, if it's wrong to use FS9? Of course not, but if people want to have their opinion on how FS9 works so well for them, i also want to have mine how FSX runs so nice. Please excuse me if i sounded like i was bashing FS9, i wasn't and i did mention that. Looks like now and again one FSX fan must come to the FS9 forum and stir the pot. What for? Can't we just respect each other and our choices? Is it so hard for some? Mine is better than yours? That's what you think, doesn't mean it is what's happening. Just because someone pops in here and says what i said, doesn't mean i'm a "fan" of anything. Enjoy your flights, i will enjoy mine and the last thing i need is to try and make my sim look better than others, i'm way over that. April 17, 201214 yr NaMcO I am with you, I do not use FSX but what is wrong with having your say? I do not think you were stirring it up, just making a point of view. Some people are too sensitive and as for the previous reply with the icons, sad.
April 17, 201214 yr NaMcO, if I had your PC I would use FSX more too but alas my kit ain't in the same league so FS9 and X-Plane are the better option for me, I'm a bit jealous but thumbs up to ya, we all just need to fly what works for each of us. Happy Flying. Cheers Martin. :yahoo:
April 17, 201214 yr no offense NaMcO but someone posted how they went back to FS9, how they were really enjoying it and this was your response That's bad FSX with that hardware and three or four tweaks (the real ones, not the ones people make up) should literally fly. Now you have to cope with a simulator from when people thought earth was flat and miss out on all the good stuff To me this comes across as nothing more than stirring the pot... So you are certainly no angel here but yes others are too sensitive as well. However, had you said something like "I am very happy for you to each their own" I see no issues... So yes, you did stir the pot intentionally or not and I personally did find your comments a bit out of line in the FS9 forum where someone is stating they are enjoying FS9 and you are talking about how great FSX is for you... Could you not just let them enjoy it without bringing FSX into it? Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
