How does EZdok compare to Active Camera

Featured Replies

I have been looking into what can be done with Active camera for FS9. My understanding is that EZdok for FSX does about the same things as Active Camera. So I would like to know how EZdok differs from AC? What does it do better? Does it do something worse than AC?

Hello

Ezdok is better on all levels, from the cameras with their smooth transitions to the cockpit movement effects.

A true game changer

I was a big Active Camera fan with FS9 and it was one of the things that I missed the most when I switched to FSX. I haven't touched FS9 in 3 years so I can't remember how Active Camera worked and since the FSX camera system is totally different from FS9's, I can't even remember how it worked. What I can say is EZDok was exactly was I was looking for as an Active Camera replacement and from what I do remember from FS9, EZDok is much more powerful than Active Camera.

MSFS Premium Deluxe Edition; Windows 11 Pro, I9-9900k; Asus Maximus XI Hero; Asus TUF RTX3080TI; 32GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR4 3600; 2X Samsung 1TB 970EVO; NZXT Kraken X63; Seasonic Prime PX-1000, LG 48" C1 Series OLED, Honeycomb Yoke & TQ, CH Rudder Pedals, Logitech G13 Gamepad

Ezdok is, as stated above, a REAL game changer. Almost as much so as FSUIPC.

HOWEVER, if you happen to need support for ezdok, don't expect much from the developer. Support is truly awful. Worst i've ever known for a payware addon.

What I wan't to do is to fly with VC instead of 2D panels. The problem with the default camera system is that you can change your viewing direction but the head is fixed in position. This makes it difficult to see and handle everything in the plane particulary in a airliner. You need to be able to move your head position within the cockpit in addition to changing the view direction. I can do that in AC by pressing CTRL N (N 0-9).

But the best would be if I could use keys on my CH Flightsim Yoke. Although that limits the number of keys available.

In EZdok can cycle through different cameras like I do with the A or S key? Meaning I only need one key for the different camera settings.

Is it possible to use the hatswitch for two different purposes depending of if another key is pressed or not while using the hatswitch?

Why is it so? Is the developer no more active like the Leonardo Maddog developer who never posts in the supportforum?

BTW am I going to need support?

What's so bad about using TrackIR? This experience puts one as close as you can get to the real thing. You move your head and look exactly where you want to look.. You can use EZCA to create camera positions that are switchable, but it takes away from the 'natural-ness' of TIR.

IF you want to keep your HAT switch the way standard FSX works, be careful with EZDOK. IT completely takes over your Hat Switch.

I bought EZDOK and I am struggling with it MAybe It needs a steep learning curve to make it all work. But Its certainly not intuitive ....

The HAt switch is not for camera..its for the flying to plane and for simulating eye movement. It should be freee to move about in a speherical pattern from its point.

EZdok will use your hat switch exactly the same way as FSX does (for panning your viewpoint). You just have to make sure you clear the view panning keys/buttons within the FSX controls panel, as well as select your joystick in the EZdok General Settings.

No problem with using my hat switch either in EZdok. As long as you follow the setup videos and disable all the necessary keys and joystick assignments in the FSX UI and then reassign them in EZdok, it works fine, well actually better than without using EZdok.

I agree that EZdok is a must have if you fly from the VC. The ease of use to assign different preset views at the touch of a button to the overhead, radio stack, etc, are most valuable rather than having to solely rely on panning. Although I do pan using the hat switch, having preset short cuts to view certain parts of the VC in a quicker manner than panning and is really useful.

After having EZdok since it came out I cant imagine flying without it since I am not a TrackIR user.

OK I got it to work reasonably well ... So its purely user error!

You obviously don't have Megascenery. LOL

It can be pretty challenging if you don't read the manual. If you get stuck you can also watch some vids that they have but it's not to bad with just the manual. The manual isn't long. The only gripe I have is that on CH products it only recognizes 4 of the directions on the hat. If they had an option to go through FSUIPC or used another method to read the yoke, they would get the other 4. Still, it's pretty cool and I would agree, it is a game changer.

Does it still have that problem if you start it with trackir running there is a flickering view?

I read trackir had to be started second.

Nope - Marniftarr says any order, but I do start TIR first, using Alacrity, then a choice menu to start FSX, which automatically starts EZCA.

The price would be the problem here

Does this mean that you can't use four of directions in EZdok but otherwise they work as usual in FSX? Ask since I do use CH flightsim yoke.

Short answer: I doubt it because of the way EZDoc senses the buttons in the hat.
