RealAir Lancair Legacy -- GA doesn't get any better

Recommended Posts

I know there have been threads already about how nice the Legacy is. But I've had this little beauty for a few weeks now. It's getting harder and harder to fly anything else.

It's just such a complete package. Not only is it beautiful and fast (because the original is beautiful and fast), but it brings all the things you want in an addon aircraft together into one package. It's easy on framerates. It has a beautiful VC in which not only is every knob or button clickable, but hovering over gauges gives you the kind of useful info that is sometimes hard to see, even with nice size monitors, like IAS and TAS when hovering over the airspeed indicator. It's equipped for full IFR, and the AP works flawlessly with the GPS and with NAV, even with the default FSX units (which is all I have). The external graphics are detailed enough to assist the suspension of disbelief. Nowhere you look will you be jarred out of the simulation. The loving touches many others have mentioned, such as the cockpit shake tuned to prop dynamics, and the fantastic start up and shut down simulations are pushing the boundaries and adding so much to the realism. The smudges on the glass...!!

Better still, it's great in MP, and has a fully sharable cockpit.

And, perhaps most importantly, it has a fully believable FD. I've offered my opinion of the FD of other RealAir aircraft in the past. I don't have the Duke (either version), but flying this Legacy demonstrates that RealAir keeps working to bring the most realistic FD that they can within the boundaries of FSX.

There are many nice to very fine addon aircraft for FSX. I have far too many of them to fly for the most part. Some of the Aerosoft offerings (like the superb Catalina, the very nice Huey, and the interesting Dimona or Wilga), and all of the A2A Accusim offerings (and I have them all), are simply excellent aircraft, and are a blast to fly. But I've been waiting for the perfect GA aircraft. My wait is over. This may be the first plane I've bought where I cannot think of any additional feature I'd like for it to have or anything more I'd like it to be able to do.

Welcome to the "cult" Griphos. There is no turning back. At least until the RA C172!!!

You may want to take a look at the Reality XP GNS and gauges in the Legacy. All those RNAV approaches and several other unique features await you. Highly recommended.

Well, I couldn't resist it any more. Just bought it..

What with Griphos' and DJJose's gushing reviews, and claims that they're never going to fly another GA in FSX again..I couldn't not buy it, could I? Now I have to wait until I get home to fly it!

Thanks for the positive reviews guys..You just achieved a "creative want" (something I want but totally don't need!0 You should be in advertising!

Gad...I've been spending all my time practicing IMC in the Duke. Rolling%20Eyes.gif Ah, well...time will come. ILS's are getting better. *sigh*

Although I own both Dukes (which are easily my most flown GA aircraft in FSX) and know about Realair's excellent quality I was going to skip the Lancair and wait for their C172 however with the overwhelming positive response (no surprise really), a price reduction and strong Aussie dollar I couldn't resist any longer so purchased it yesterday. Took it for its first flight in the PNW and was not disappointed. In fact when I first started it up I just sat there staring at the awesome VC and admiring the work (love the cockpit vibrations).

Thanks Rob and Sean for another wonderful aircraft. I'm really looking forward to what you guy's will do the the C172.

Regards,

Serge

I have it too. Very Fine. A little simple for me (power on, start, fly), and wish they would develop their own GPS unit instead of the stock 500. Even with EzDok and TracIR, having the engine gauges on the right side of the panel is a pain (not their fault I should add... that's how it is).

Now... if we could get them to partner with Carenado for the upcoming SR22 and TBM 850... now THAT would be something (RealAir "no bugs" programing, and Carenado's Superior grafix).

Bought it last night - I agree with everyone else, this is probably the best GA single I've ever seen. I love the little details like the vibrating/bouncing gauge needles on the ground. Very easy to handfly, superb RXP integration, well written manuals etc.

I suspect they don't do their own gps as they spent the time building and testing their excellent integration with realityxp.

The RXP 530 does everything, and leveraging off that and not reinventing the wheel is always a good thing is the FS world ;) the proof is in the quality of the plane where they really put their focus.

I have had it too for a few weeks and you guys are right, it's absolutely stunning !

The only thing I regret a little, but that has nothing to do with RealAir but more with the nature of how this plane is I think, is a little lack of visibility out of the window when cruising along VFR.

Again, that's probably the nature of this plane in real life too, so kudos to RealAir for getting it spot on.

This aircraft has done to my GA hangar what the PMDG NGX did to my tubeliners - quite simply, flying anything else becomes something of a let down
