"no 3d cockpit! arrrggghhh! why not? I am sorry, but I AM upset that almost no one makes 3D cockpits for X-Plane, unless it's a commercial add-on. Why not? 3D is the only way to realistically put you at the controls of any airplane. Period. The real pilot's eye perspective can NOT NEVER be had from a 2d Panel ....facts of life!"

I suppose it really depends on how seriously you imagine a real Aeroplane cockpit looks like as you pretend to fly in a flight simulator.....

For me, a 2D cockpit enables me to control this imaginary vehicle, whilst I imagine flying around an imaginary scene, by varying the position of multi-coloured pixels around a Monitor screen with the aid of my Computer Joystick.... ...!

The wonders of modern science!...Big%20Grin.gif ...!

For the real thing, I pop over to my local Flying Club and strap myself in the No 1 seat, for a fly around the real countryside in a real Cessna 150/152...

In the meantime, a pretend aeroplane, with a pretend 2D cockpit, in a pretend scene, is a wonderful way to relax whilst my dinner cooks on my trusty Gas Stove... ...!

..its all in the mind..you know!... ...!

Well - I caved in and bought it. I admit that it is a very nice model and a huge improvement over the older Bonanza, but I will still have to make my own 2D panel for this one, just like I did for last few Carenado offerings.

Glade you gave it a shot. The more FS9 support they see the more 'FSX only' models we see.

FS2020

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

WingZ, To get the chocks and covers to appear apply the parking brake.

I bought it and am very impressed, I hope more are coming. VC all the way for me, don't miss a 2d at all.

I was pleased to see that this offering actually costs 25% less than the original FS9 F33A released back in 2006.

Well I too was excited about this plane. I have both FS9 and FS10. (FS10 was given to me by a MS employee as a gift. Used it once and deleted it from my HDD).Glad to see support for FS9. Anyway I don't like virtual cockpits. Without a 2D panel I'm afraid I will now have to pass on this one.

Just bought the plane and took it for a spin. This is a must have. It is a huge improvement over the older version.

Don't really understand the gripes about 2D panel...

Surely all you want is a look at the instruments?

This is available:

Or even this:

So if you want "more Realism", such as "turn the key" and "adjust the mixture", get a TrackIR and do it in the VC!

Was determined to buy this as soon as it was released and I was not disappointed. It is great to have Carenado back on the FS9 scene again as they produce the most realistic GA aircraft available today. I have bought all the Carenado aircraft over the years and although even the early ones (including the V35 Bonanza) were very good, the most recent aircraft they produced for FS9 were of superb quality, particularly the Cessna 185 and the Piper Seneca. The Seneca was in fact the aircraft that converted me from usually flying 2D cockpits to flying 3D cockpits, as the cockpit was so realistic as well as easy to use - so give it a try Bob, you might be as surprised as I was and undergo a conversion to 3D cockpits! Now I always fly preferentially using a 3D cockpit and am disappointed if an addon does not come with a good one although Carenado produce the best VCs (certainly for GA). Also it is very good value - overall a product and a decision for which Carenado need to be congratulated and supported!

Hi Bob

I have to echo Bill on that one. Do you have a joystick with a "point of view hat?" (TrackIR would be even better but the POV hat does the job for me...) Once you get used to panning around the cockpit, I think you will find that a good VC is totally immersive and very life-like. It's second nature to me now - almost as natural as turning your head or adjusting your body angle in a real cockpit so you can look wherever you need to...

When developers first started talking about doing away with 2D cockpits I thought it was a dreadful idea and I still carry out some functions using 2D panels, particularly in complex aircraft. But for actual flying, a good VC is as close to the real world as you can come when looking at a flat screen. In the uncluttered environment of a GA aircraft, it really doesn't matter if there's no 2D once you become used to flying in VC.

Cheers

Ian

Did I mention: the 32-bit repaints done for FSX seem to live well on this model, too

Life just got even better.

I never want to get into the all-too-typical trap of telling people their preferences are wrong, but I must urge 2D devotees not to pass this one up just because Carenado has given up on 2D panels (they did that a few add-ons ago). I still prefer 2D for airliner flying, but VC's have advanced so much in recent years that I now consider them a must for GA flying. I've used Carenado's planes for real-world IFR proficiency training for years, and it's now easy to maintain a proper instrument scan in the VC. I use the hat switch on the CH yoke to pan, and I've turned up the pan rate in the Config file to 1400.

So please don't miss out on this just because of the panel options. The gauge quality on this one is very good indeed, even in the VC.

Kudos to Carenado for providing Fs9 support and development! :good:

Well, if Ed endorses the product, Carenado MUST port over the other FSX models. I hope I'm right!

Ed the FS9 2D panel guru? I think he would endorse this actually. I remember reading him saying he enjoyed flying the Carenado Arrow, which is VC only as well.

Now over to you, Ed. :)
