September 21, 201213 yr Having looked at this new release I have to ask, Is RAAS a common fit in a 737 8? David Murden. September 21, 201213 yr I would have thought so, but I'm no expert and no doubt our RWers out there will inform us more accurately. Jason *** Disclaimer: Any resemblence of my views & tech advice to reality are purely coincidental. No living beings or real aircraft where harmed in the making. ***
September 21, 201213 yr There are airlines that do have their 737 series equipped with RAAS. However, its nothing that you normally get when you buy the aircraft but instead, something you buy afterwards from Honeywell. (That might have changed by the time and you might get it as regular upgrade when ordering an aircraft). Alaska Airlines put the RAAS on all of their 737´s. Tebin Ulrich
September 22, 201213 yr Having looked at this new release I have to ask, Don't look twice.. It's a great addon for us and appears to work flawlessly. And soon the majority of the financially able RL airlines will have it anyway Regards, Martin Martinov / VATSIM 1207931
September 22, 201213 yr Seems a bit pricey at £25 to me I'm afraid, half the cost of the NGX itself! :( K Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS
September 22, 201213 yr Yeah, if compared to NGX price it is to much to ask 25 for the RAAS software. I do not think this one will be on my computer. I ready have Eric Marciano's software and that is good enough for me. Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk 2
September 22, 201213 yr IMO, RAAS is the equivalent of having your mother-in-law riding shotgun with you. September 22, 201213 yr And soon the majority of the financially able RL airlines will have it anyway I really doubt that...all these 'bells & whistles' are very expensive to add to a particular customer configuration, there is then an ongoing maintenance cost over the life of the aircraft & then the training expense for flight crews & engineering departments. Take an operator like Ryanair for example - by the end of 2013 they will be operating in excess of 300 738s...even to a 'finacially able' airline like them the cost would be astronomical - i'd be really suprised if we saw RAAS selected by them for example...(please...lets not let this thread degenerate into a 'peeing contest' about the pros & cons of one low cost carrier or another). Conversely, operators like Alaskan conduct a large amount of their business in very marginal weather (to say the least)...this is perhaps one of the reasons why they have opted for things like RAAS & HGS....the latter probaly enables them to operate in certain conditions where other operators would struggle to keep to the schedule...thus the financial outlay becomes cost effective in the long term. Remember that SIA never retrofitted (RAAS) to their 744 fleet after the Taipei incident...& RAAS was specifically designed to help prevent incidents of that nature ever happening...it was probably considered but then ruled out as an unecconomical option on an ageing fleet in the long term...to the best of my knowledge they never fitted it as standard to the 777 Fleet either (could be wrong). We may see newer designs with things like this fitted as standard straight from the production line...but it is very expensive to retrofit into an older aircraft...& the bottom line cost is what counts in the world of commerical aviation...thats why you don't find a smoke hood under your seat...its just too expensive (in the opinion of the airline it cuts into the bottom line) & you wont see them fitted as standard until the regulatory bodies make them mandatory (not happening anytime soon). Please dont think I am against things like RAAS...I am not...the safer the better IMVHO...& within FS if it 'floats your boat' & enhances your FS experience then $25 is a relatively smal price to pay for the enjoyment it may bring you. September 23, 201213 yr I also would have liked to see a lower price. Even with my discount I would get for buying the FS2Crew for the JS41, it is still a little much for the amount of time it will get used. No offense to the developer, as I know a lot of work has gone into this, but for me, at this time I have to pass only because of the price. Either way, it is already I see doing well so that is good cause even of I don't support by buying a product I like to see hard work paid off. William Sequeira
