October 18, 201213 yr Hello! I installed Windows 8 a couple of weeks ago and today i decided to try FSX (SP1 and SP2) togheter with a couple of addons (PMDG, REX). Before i upgraded to Windows 8 I used Windows 7 along with many others, and I was pretty happy playing FSX on a Windows 7 machine. FSX ran good on my computer and the simulator was pretty realible aslong as you didnt hit alt+tab or alt+enter while flying - in my case that would cause a crash in 40% of the times. I have only tested FSX for + an hour, which really isnt much at all, but i can already say that some parts of FSX works better whit Windows 8 than Windows 7. For ex alt+tab or alt+enter has not made my simulator to crash yet, and i was pressing the different combinations repeatedly for some time. The ingame menus are also faster and more stable. My FPS is higher (5-10 frames) without huge dips. I cant say how FSX and Windows 8 works togheter in longterm use but the first impression was alot better than expected.
October 18, 201213 yr Thanks for the report. I saw some benchmarking reports of 7 versus 8, they claimed minimal improvements. So I'd love to see some others chime in to see if its true for others. Sounds promising ! Simmo W, Melbourne, Ozhttp://www.youtube.com/user/id5556
October 18, 201213 yr good to hear, but answer me this? Did alt-tab actually get you into and out of the sim? Appreciate there were no crashes, but what DID happen with those keypresses? Thanks for keeping us up to date!!! JH
October 18, 201213 yr Your sim is not faster because of Windows 8, you have a configuration difference in your FSX.cfg file or you are running a newer video driver that delivers better performance.
October 19, 201213 yr I really DON'T want to do a FRESH INSTALL of FSX. Way too much trouble. If I have to do that, I will stay with Windows 7. Works absolutely great. Stan
October 19, 201213 yr Im getting a new system, and will have to transfer all my FSX-y stuff to that computer once it arrives, and am considering Windows 8. I really don't think I'll see a difference, but ya never know. Might try it. FS2004 Forever
October 19, 201213 yr I bought Windows 7 before it was released, but it will probably be a long time before I try Windows 8. I'm very comfortable with W7 and it works great. I'll sit on the sidelines and watch how W8 does before I try it. Robert Yunque

October 19, 201213 yr I really hope Microsoft realizes what they're doing and that Windows 8 crashes and burns. If I wanted a tile menu, I'd buy a Nokia Lumia 900. I don't want tiles as my start menu. Windows 8 is so crap that there's an article on Wikipedia that shows every feature that was removed from the operating system. There is no Aero anymore. (Some might claim it slowed your computer down, but I liked it and my computer was good enough to use it fine) You can no longer delete (or "forget" as it's sometimes said) wireless networks anymore via the Control Panel (Is there even one?!?!). Windows Media Player can't and won't play DVDs unless you buy an add-in for Windows Media Center (Oh, I forgot to say, WMC doesn't come with Windows 8 for free. It's an "app" for Windows 8 Professional ONLY. Not the standard/classic/regular version.) There are no more desktop gadgets (those cool little things that would show the temperature, a clock, currency converter, etc). The Blue Screen of Death no longer shows detailed information about the problem, it now gives you a sad face :( and tells you that an error occurred and information is being sent to Microsoft to research the problem. Come on... Is Microsoft kidding? A sad face? Really? :(? The list goes on. And before you reply to this post calling I TRIED TO USE A PROFANITY HERE - AREN'T I STUPID!, I've used Windows 8 on VirtualBox so I have reasonings. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
October 20, 201213 yr If W8 is a prime example of the future, I will stay with W7 until it is no longer supported. Intel Core Ultra 9 285K | GIGABYTE Z890 AORUS Elite X ICE | RTX 5080 | 32GB DDR5 | Win 11 Pro | Acer Predator UltraWide 3440x1440 (G-Sync)

October 20, 201213 yr A sad face? Really? Seriously? A sad face on BSOD??? :LMAO: :LMAO: :LMAO: Man, alone on this I hope that W8 crashes and burn, nothing else. Sad face... LOL :LMAO: :Just Kidding: how do you think it boots up so quickly if there's no improvement Why do we need a fast boot up? Future laptops are going to be coming with SSDs so fast boot is ensured on almost any system. There is always place for improvement, but what MS apparently did from what linux said, is striped it down, gave it a simplistic look and called it faster. And a SAD FACE!!! Man, can't stop laughing about this. LOL.

October 20, 201213 yr I use OSX Lion on an SSD for a fast & secure OS for general computing: exactly 20 seconds from hitting the on button on my MBP to opening up an application in OSX, including typing in my login password. No antivirus software required. I dual boot to Win7 thru Bootcamp so I can VPN for work stuff if needed. Office 2011 for Mac is a great program. NO new MS OS until Win7 isn't supported...and I don't even use Win7 yet for FSX. Still on Vista64 which works just fine for FSX--I don't get crashes ;o) When I assemble my Haswell P3D box next year I will put the entire banana on a single 512Gb 6Gb SSD and will use Win7 if Vista64 isn't a good idea for P3D. Anyone know if Win7 brings ANYTHING MEANINGFUL to FSX/P3D over Vista64? Noel And a SAD FACE!!! Man, can't stop laughing about this. LOL. The sad thing, the really sad thing, is that they used text to generate the SAD FACE instead of make a real sad clown face or something! I would definitely upgrade if there was a REAL SAD FACE for the BSOD!! We will have to abbreviate this now as BSAD instead of BSOD!!
