October 30, 201213 yr Any other Win8 users here have trouble running FSX with either the Level D 767 or Eaglesoft's Cirrus SR22? I ask because I'm going down my list of addons that are giving me trouble and so far those 2 aren't playing nicely for me. For some reason they both cause FSX to freeze up for several seconds at a time whether I'm flying or clicking through the menus. Eventually FSX will crash altogether. If I remove them then FSX will run just fine. I'm not sure wha to make of this problem as I never had this issue under Win7. Edit: this is with a fresh install of Windows 8.
October 30, 201213 yr I have not successfully been able to load the Coolsky DC-9. I have tried several times but once I select the aircraft in the main menu, the screen freezes up. In fact, it is a permanent freeze up which requires me to use crtl-alt-del to close out. I have tried only with the QW Avroliner besides this and it loaded okay. October 30, 201213 yr Commercial Member An overhaul of memory management, better handling of background tasks and threading, more efficient network handling, and several other improvements at the core mean there could be a demonstrable improvement when running FSX with Win8. Needs a proper test. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
October 30, 201213 yr Maybe when binary code is replaced with living organisms that pass information similar to synopsis, FSX performance will improve. Bob Officially retired

November 14, 201213 yr Hello! I installed Windows 8 a couple of weeks ago and today i decided to try FSX (SP1 and SP2) togheter with a couple of addons (PMDG, REX). Before i upgraded to Windows 8 I used Windows 7 along with many others, and I was pretty happy playing FSX on a Windows 7 machine. FSX ran good on my computer and the simulator was pretty realible aslong as you didnt hit alt+tab or alt+enter while flying - in my case that would cause a crash in 40% of the times. I have only tested FSX for + an hour, which really isnt much at all, but i can already say that some parts of FSX works better whit Windows 8 than Windows 7. For ex alt+tab or alt+enter has not made my simulator to crash yet, and i was pressing the different combinations repeatedly for some time. The ingame menus are also faster and more stable. My FPS is higher (5-10 frames) without huge dips. I cant say how FSX and Windows 8 works togheter in longterm use but the first impression was alot better than expected. Are you using any FTX addons or demos.. ? I found that for whatever reason, on at least two test machines, the pnw and one of the objectflows even with a demo were causing the crash when alt - tabbing.. dll.xml the objectflow_xyz.dll entries. November 14, 201213 yr I've been playing with windows 8 on a laptop for a week now and am actually really impressed! The memory management has improved so that background apps don't require so much memory, many services have been switched to start on demand, and stop when unused, and as for the star menu- just download "classic start menu" and its back on the desktop. Are there things I'm not crazy about-sure. But for laptops it looks great (especially older ones), and the metro interface is easy to ignore if you wish. I'm really interested in seeing how fsx and other flight sims run on it so I can decide about my sim computer- but my laptops are changing as soon as it comes out. Oh, and its only $40 for an upgrade so that helps! I foolishly paid MS the upgrade, and did it on a perfectly working Windows 7 FSX, Matrox Triplehead2Goand TripleHead2Go resolution plummeted below MS FSX Minimum, I now have a rubbish FSX environment with a beautiful GUI I don't need ... please wait and wait and wait for MS and partners to get their act together. To throw mud in my face, called MS support when FSX would net even reinstall on Win 8 .. said it is no longer supported ... and the old licensing simply does not work ... so be very very very careful with MS Win 8 ...
November 15, 201213 yr Commercial Member I've been using Win 8 for quite a while with no problems. NGX, FS2Crew and other addons. No issues. Fresh and clean install... would never trying upgrading over an old OS as that's a disaster waiting to happen. A lot of people are afraid of change, but it's not a bad OS. I never use Metro, though... I just skip to Desktop. I'm recommending all my non-English country FS2Crew users (Germans, French, Dutch, etc). upgrade to Windows 8, however. Why? The real plus that Win 8 offers is that "anyone" can download the English Language pack now, which is required to use Voice Control as you need to be able to set your speech recognizer to English - US. Previously in Win 7 only Ultimate and Enterprise owners could do that. Now, with Win 8, anyone can use Voice Control easily. B. York FS2Crew Web Site / FS2Crew Facebook Page / FS2Crew Discord
November 15, 201213 yr lol Not even one of this -> :( ????? I haven't installed FSX onto a Win8 PC, but we have some developments on the way using Win8 since some time ago. When they work it's spot on. I can't say much else, sorry. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
December 27, 201213 yr The comments about Windows 8 sucks etc, etc it reminds me when Facebook and Youtube change their user interface. People start hating the interface then after few days they love it. I have W8 on my laptop just to test it and I like it first I was irritated because I could n't find few thing but when I found it and explored I started to love the W8.

December 27, 201213 yr disappearing joystick here as well as APPCRASH when I exit the NGX. the disappearing joystick thing would happen also in P3D as well. i'm guessing whether because I didn't install the USB3 driver or something if that would have made a differences. so unfortunately moved back to windows 7, a shame as i really liked Windows 8 which was smoother and faster (maybe cuz they removed Aero)
December 27, 201213 yr so unfortunately moved back to windows 7, a shame as i really liked Windows 8 which was smoother and faster (maybe cuz they removed Aero) You can also turn off Aero in Windows 7 if you wish. Though I think that FSX disables Aero by default?
December 27, 201213 yr You can also turn off Aero in Windows 7 if you wish. Though I think that FSX disables Aero by default? that's true FSX disables Aero, I've disabled Aero in Windows 7 (choosing Basic Theme) and it seems the same to me... Windows 8 does seems snappier to load the OS and Applications in general though.
