Coolsky DC-9 Second Patch...thoughts?

Featured Replies

and that was why RealAir did not make switch noises in the duke T and now I can see why.

When you're on the ground with engines off, you can certainly hear the switches and that's probably when you use them most. And they did add sounds to the Lancair.

Plus sitting in the real aircraft you get that tactile response from physically throwing switches and the ambiance of sitting in the cockpit which don't get from a simulator. That's where the sound environment can help fill in the gaps to provide that ambiance even if it may not be identical to the real thing. Sometimes you have to stray a bit from the "real world" to accommodate for the short comings of a simulator.

I disagree. Hardware overcomes the tactile short comings. The sound should be accurate, as far as I'm concerned. I'm no DC-9 pilot, so to me the cockpit does seem somewhat "quiet".

On a side not, the best sound environments in aircraft add-ons I use:

  • PMDG NGX
  • Leonardo Maddog
  • A2A Accusim aircraft

All of the mentioned aircraft use a system more of less independent of FSX. ie they do not soleley use the default sound system within FSX

Well A2A does get it right because you have the sounds but then they include a headset ON and taa daaa

O and a window open option so 3 sound sets

Robert,

Did you happen to do a screenshot of your Doolsky DC9 overhead panel?

I'll see if I can get one up.

Edit:

When you mention 4096 .. is this the included with purchase aircraft (paints, interior panels) or the HD liveries and panels available from Mcphat?

No, you can download "Texture Max Editor" from the Avsim Library. Set it up to start with FSX and it will keep your textures locked at 4096 for the best visual experience. Whenever you change a setting on FSX display without Texture Max Editor, the textures go back to default 1026 which causes the overhead panel to be blurry.

I disagree about the 4096 textures fixing a blurry upper panel. I fly all aircraft including PMDG 737 NGX and MD-11 with 1024 textures and I donot have problems with blurry panels. I would suspect something in cfg. file. or NI setting.

Well in case of DC-9 it does fix them or at least improve them much.

Hey hey,

Okay, regarding blurries.

This will very much depend on screen resolution.

I originally created the textures with no mip maps, this is why you go blurry (mip maps added that is).

It won't matter if you run 1024 or 4096 resolution textures, it is how the textures are displayed and processed by the GPU,

Neither does it affect who's textures you are using on different companies aircraft, it depends how they are saved and in what format.

I found with the mip maps added, if you use a screen resolution to 1280x1024 they are indeed blurry unless you zoom in close, that's mip maps at work.

At resolutions above that, No real problem, that's why some people do, or don't have an issue.

The decision, so i am led to believe was not to remove the mip maps from the .dds textures for the last patch.

they can be removed though in a separate graphics program if so desired, just remember to save as 32bit, for the alpha channels,

and also remember that DXT bitmap manipulator isnt good for every resolution and quality, I can't remember what the biggest size texture it can handle.

So what do mip maps do?

at higher resolutions, the more you are zoomed out, the more clumpy or 'wandering spiders' you get as the boss calls them at a distance,

so mip maps drop the resolution by half at a distance (distance not editable) thereby smoothing the picture.

Hope that at least helps explain what is happening, and ways around the problem.

From the dc-9 forum: "We are going to bring back the original idea of the reduced poly VC model. The work on this is already done, so we should be able to have this out in the next beta patch for sure.

The reduced poly model will have most of the items at the back of the cockpit, where you are normally not looking, removed. We will have all the circuit breakers removed as well, including the ones on the overhead panel. CBs will still be available in the VC via pop-up panels."

Good move, this will resolve allot:)

Kind regards
R.G

I have downloaded the TMLE but unable to install it. I got an error by the end of the installation. Any idea? Thanks.

I have downloaded the TMLE but unable to install it. I got an error by the end of the installation. Any idea? Thanks.

You really don't need the TMLE if you don't plan on tweaking your FSX graphics options from within FSX. All TMLE does is keep the TML setting in your FSX.cfg after you make changes to FSX graphics settings.

This looks interesting. I have watched the Frooglesim Youtube clip of first impressions - he was pretty pleased with it but did mention low frames 14-15 Fps- until he carried out a complete reinstall of FSX and now he gets 30 plus FPS... (something I am completely loath to do with all the scenery, and airplane add on's with registration requirements that I have).

Looking at his specs, they are a fair bit better than mine - so I would love to know if this latest patch has optimised anything - enough for me to go through the process of actually installing it. ( in other words Flight One's 30 day money back guarantee is nice, but not if I have to spend hours just to install and configure it for decent FPS only to find it just is too much of a system hog).

So, for all those who have purchased this Jet, please let me know your thoughts on this latest patch - ( and I have registered that sound is still an issue for at least one contributor).

My System is i5 750 overclocked to 4Ghz, 8 Gigs 1600 Ram, Nvidia GTX 460 1 Gb..

I decided to take the plunge and bought it. I find that my FPS are similar to the NGX without any special tweaking/re-installing needed.

So far I'm enjoying the aircraft, it's a fun challenge to learn to fly when you're used to "luxuries" like autothrottle, VNAV etc...

Don't by that plane yet since it has a lot of bugs!

This plane does not have a lot of bugs ! And is a joy to fly.

2 patches have ironed out the plane pretty much. If you find this plane buggy you either have not understood how to fly without computers or you need to through the manual again to see how to operate a non computerized aircraft.
