Hi,

I am conducting a rough non-scientific survey to try to ascertain what % of users of FSX use TrackIR.

On another forum I said I thought it was about 1/10 and someone else said only about 1/100 which I believe is miles off!

So, please don't just reply if you're a TIR user, it's really important that those simmers that don't currently use TIR also respond too.

Many thanks.

I have a freetrack setup (hat & webcamera), but I use it very rarely simply because I can't get used to it! Turning my head for some small angle to be able to keep my eyes on the monitor and look to the side windows of cockpit - it's just not natural and it feels awkward. If I could to attach the monitor to my hat, that would be awesome then! :D

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

I tried it once in 2005 and never looked back. It has become standard kit for me ever since. The single most essential FS addon ever. Could not fly without it. If I did it would be like having my head in a vice.

+1. I <3 my TrackIR 5 to death.

I've had it for 2or3 years now. I honestly can't remember how I flew before I had it.

3 monitor (triplehead2go) with TIR. Absolutely makes you an instant virtual cockpit lover.

No. Both absolutely unrealistic and a prison.

I procrastinated for months because it was so expensive. Finally took the plunge and I cant imagine flying without it. Outstanding. You dont know what your missing until you try it.

I resisted it for a long time, but I can't imagine flying without it now.

I've got my cockpit zoom set at 1.5, which makes the outside world bigger and more dramatic and I can see the instruments a lot better. I couldn't do this without TrackIR. Of course I do have to move my head around a bit, but I do in a real plane, too.

Imagine trying to drive your car having to look around using a hat switch. :)

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Like it so much I've purchased the TrackIR 3, 4 and 5.

Prefer the Track Clip as my ears get hot wearing headphones. :-)

I own the TIR 4 and I rarely use it. I sometimes use it on the ground, initial climb out and on approach / in the pattern but I've never gotten that into it.During cruise it's only annoying so I pause it during that phase. I made a new rig four months ago, and I only got around to reinstalling the TIR drivers last week, that's how little I use it.

For FSX I use it most of the time, though when I'm not it's usually because I've temporarily disabled it "in game" to interact with the VC. The immersion it creates is first rate; I considered MS Flight a fail because it released without TIR support (though they released TIR support about a week before they ditched the project..crud, what a stupid waste). For combat flight sims TIR is as essential as a joystick.
