March 27, 201313 yr I would like to read an honest review as well. After what JF did to the Comet, i have to be sure before i purchase another one of my all-time favourites. March 27, 201313 yr I don't normally like to nit pick but I think there were more -1,100,200 versions than the 500 so to say it was the normal civillian version I think may be incorrect. I think that the term "normal civilian version" means "not the military version". March 27, 201313 yr I think if its worth or not is a good question that everyone may see different. I for myself would like to see much more functions and better cockpit sounds (as far as i know, the original sounds were a bit different). However, I love old planes and I will fly this one. Will try to find better cockpit sounds and thats it. It has an INS (didnt test it yet) and the overall feeling in the cockpit is nice. I would compare it with the Simcheck A300, maybe a bit better even (not every corner of the cockpit though). If this bird would have the system depth of the Simcheck, I would only fly this one from now on. But i have to be happy because old planes are not released frequently.positive:cockpit graphicsengine soundsit has an INS (not tested by me so far)flight performancenegative:not many functions.. more than normal light products thoughfan blades (they look like CLS fan blades) Tebin Ulrich
March 27, 201313 yr Ok, I just purchased it and there are good elements, but I am very disappointed about one huge lack of realism, from my perspective;- The A/P is far from realistic, and is essentially the FSX default AP ; in other words, you will be climbing in V/S mode. :( .... which is totally realistic for airliner operation, even in the 70s. The real TriStar had a IAS mode that changed the pitch of the aircraft (at a set thrust), to maintain a speed (eg.. like FL CH mode in a Boeing). This aircraft has the 'IAS' button, where it should be, but it is a simple autothrottle hold, as per the default FSX airliners. This is a big realism factor for me - I cannot stand flying airliners that should have a proper IAS or FLC mode, using V/S mode to climb as it is so unrealistic. Even modern 'lite' offerings like the QW 146 provide a very good 'IAS' mode, that works by adjusting pitch - not using the autothrottle. Sorry JF - this one's going to the back of my hangar. Just my views - what I am describing here will not be so important to some other simmers - it's just my take on it.
March 27, 201313 yr Just to add to the above - I've just completed a short flight (Luanda, Angola > Windhoek, Namibia), so here are a few more notes :- The good - Engine Sounds - Hand Flying Dynamics - Ground Equipment Eye Candy (if that's your thing!) The not so good - Over 50% of the overhead buttons and switches are non-functional. - Be in no doubt, this is a very 'Lite' offering. - Even when choosing the 'GPS' equipped version, the INS visuals remain in the VC! - VC click sounds not so nice at all. - As mentioned above, the AP is the FSX default; nothing more. - As mentioned by someone else above; overpowered. 4500fpm climb rate at 24,000 at climb power, and close to MTOW! Aside from some perhaps nicer VC texturing; everything about this aircraft from a systems perspective is very, very "CLS-like". Although it was not made by CLS, you will at times find that fact very hard to swallow! If you want any level whatsoever of systems depth - this is not for you!!! .......... this is a nice looking, very very lite, airliner. No offence intended whatsoever, but any comparisons between this offering and the Simcheck A300 are absolutely misleading. The Simcheck has a fully custom (100% functional) A/P, and a huge degree of systems depth, compared to this product. Just Flight are not claiming this to be anything like a "Simcheck A300-level" product, and I'm sure would agree, it's not in any way comparable. This one is sadly not a keeper for me.
March 27, 201313 yr Disappointment as they said it wasn't a light product. Now let's see what CS does. Lee
March 28, 201313 yr Glad I kept my hand on my wallet and decided ' let's see what others say', which from what I can garner here, is not a great deal +ve. Good report, DC6_Flyer. Rick Almeida
March 28, 201313 yr I was really close to buying this... Thanks to DC6, FSCamp and others who have helped me make my (non)purchase decision. "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma

March 28, 201313 yr I am thankful to all who have shared on this topic. I can now rest comfortably with a decision to hold on buying the L1011. Keith Guillory
March 28, 201313 yr Thanks for heads up DC6. This looks good. I am always on the look out for planes with reasonably good flying characteristics and high quality sounds and graphics but a bit more on the "lite" side. There are lots of very good complex aircraft but the middle ground is often under served (especially ones with good sound, VC's, and a reasonable feature list). I am off to take a closer look.
March 28, 201313 yr Well, I got it and I am disappointed. The sounds are too light; does not sound well for a large a/c. All in all, the graphics was too dull and light for me. The systems are also not in depth. So, over all I am disappointed. I'm uninstalling now. Also, I really don't like the way the a/c looks. Even it was developed by out fav. developer, I don't think I would like it.
March 28, 201313 yr Commercial Member Well, I got it and I am disappointed. The sounds are too light; does not sound well for a large a/c. What's exactly wrong with sounds? They are developed by TSS who are usually regarded as the best sound developer out there, to me those sounds are pretty much perfectly like what real aircraft sounds with those powerful RR engines.
March 28, 201313 yr The sounds are too light; does not sound well for a large a/c. Did you know the Tristar was nicknamed the whisperliner? That is accurate in my opinion.Regards; Fritz
