What addon combination brings your system to it's knees?

Featured Replies

So, we all know each and every computer is different. We each have different components, and stuff, etc.

But we all know there is a certain combination of addons to all of us that will turn your FSX into a slideshow. Even with the MOST powerful computers, the perfect combo can do the trick.

Some people can run GEX, UTX, NGX, REX, ABC, DEFGHIJKLMOP... etc etc with no problems and others turn into slideshows.

I am hoping this topic can give others advice on addons when it comes to FPS.

FOR ME, I can run FSdreamteam JFK with Us cities New York Manhattan with the NGX at 27FPS.

The combo that brings my system to it's knees for me is:

GEX night lighting + Fsdreamteam KLAX at LAX. My system dropped to 12 fps.

I just landed at the default Salt Lake City (KSLC) under a cloud cover in the default DC-3. My ATI video card rendered the clouds with frames in the teens and a few times in single digits, where it usually stays at 30. KSLC is a high detail airport.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Mine cant seem to get alot worse than 14Fps with REX Essentials + Overdrive, ORBX AUSSP4 and ORBX YMML, flying the NGX with around 75% of traffic at nightime. I Also very often I loose the textures on the taxiways and runways for around 15 seconds at a time.

I'm on an old Dell Vostro 220 my better rig burned a few months ago; I have a lot of addons and local complex scenery set at max. othrwise details are not visible. I tune FSX by locking FPS in the FSX.cfg file and get preatty good results almost 20/20

Does the out of memory trouble count? I've got two planes which need rather low-ish sliders to stay away from that limit. The NGX and the FSL Concorde. And I'm not running custom LOD settings or super hires cloud textures.

On the scenery, I've tried Orbx Brisbane a few times. While it always looked nice, it never came in with the framerate I wanted or needed. So I'm flying the freeware at that location. And I had the older Aerosoft London VFR installed which looked beautiful but, together with the mentioned planes and all the UK addons of mine, caused trouble sooner or later.

Pmdg 737 or Flight1 C510 with Orbx scenery. LOD 6.5 makes OOM's come faster hehe

I won't name the add-on, but will say it's for the 49th state of the U.S.A. Even with my now mid-range system, if I start at the largest city's airport I get about 7fps with all the package's settings turned on. That's with no AI and without the detailed airport scenery from another developer.

During it's development I first came across the "lime green parking space" effect, where the system gets so bogged down it's unable to draw an AFCAD's parking spots and only renders them as a greenish-square. Maybe an i9 at 6.5ghz will allow me double digit fps?

I should also mention that outside of a couple of the more developed city areas fps return to a more acceptable level.

Same here. When I installed PANC and tested it in the NGX I was shocked that I could barely get 10 FPS with little or no traffic and that's without UT Alaska installed. I've tried removing scenery objects, zero AI, cutting back scenery settings, resizing textures, etc, but for some reason that airport is a slide show for me and would be the one airport that brings my system to its knees. I dont know what FPS or performance the default PANC gives me since I have neve actually flown to or used the default version but I cant imagine it being worse than the Aerosft version.

ORBX YBBN, bad weather and the NGX. I can go down to about 15 or 12 FPS. But I'm slowly tweaking and finding the balance in the settings.

Thanks,

Nah, I'm more talking about low frames.... :)

Lowest frames i get (around 20-22) are in Orbx's YMML and a heavy addon such as the NGX. All the rest is normal.

The F1 Mustang and Ultimate Alaska turns my sim into a slideshow, anything else and it seems fine - although I have not been near PANC for a while...
