January 9, 201313 yr That's a pretty offensive term, in my world. Not sure what world you are from Raul... In my neck of the woods... what he describes could be termed "rude, crude and uncouth" behavior (which includes that spastic - not able to sit still / childlike - behaviour).
January 9, 201313 yr Was actually talking to my dad about this over lunch today. We've concluded that class and comfort are a rarity on airliners now. You get stuffed into a tube like sardines, barked at by flight attendants with an attitude, and no one seems to care about anyone else's comfort on the airplane (ie your valid rant). My thought is because the airlines know you have to fly now (opposed to the olden days when driving and taking a boat was still more common) they don't need to worry about comfort or customer service anymore. This is why American Airlines is an inferior airline in my eyes... customer service is subpar (they prefer you email than call and takes a month to respond) and their aircraft are filthy and old. It's all about the bottom line. Whenever I fly I dress nice, am respectful to others, cover my mouth when I cough or sneeze, etc. Wish others were the same. January 9, 201313 yr "wow, what an intolerant guy". Tolerance my friend, is highly overrated.
January 9, 201313 yr That gives all more reason to become commercial pilots. FO's or Captains only have to deal with an issue if one or both of them ate something that brings on those horrid farts that just seem to linger forever in the cockpit. So the next time you see your Captain or First Officer taking a stroll down the isle, you know he just had to evacuate the flight deck to clear the air so to speak...LOL Sorry for my 2 bit sense of humor...but it is true. Best, Jeff
January 9, 201313 yr And then there are people quoting in full. No offence, Jude. But I did notice the one sentence answer to a full page post. ^_^ Are you on a plane by any chance? On the topic, did that 'elevated economy' solve any issues in your eyes? Some of the offerings don't look like much of an improvement to me. Oh I see Devon has posted a safety video. Horses for courses. Wait.
January 9, 201313 yr Good thread! Funny/unpleasant stories! Our Aussie internal carriers all seem to be pretty good n nice, though I'll never try Tiger Airways. My longest flight anywhere has only been 3.5 hrs, by then I'm borderline stir crazy and my back is killing me. The thought of a cross-pacific flight doesn't excite me! Crying distraught babies or toddlers can make the trip challenging. Often as the parents are doing the wrong thing. They're hungry, feed em! One friend went on a flight by HIMSELF with his 2 young kids, one of em projectile vomiting everywhere in the first hour on the way to Ireland! The entire cabin reeked. All the way. Worst experience for me is when the best looking flight attendant is all the way at the back, deliberately hidden by the Matronly grumpy one serving you, scowling if you ask for a napkin. January 9, 201313 yr And then there are people quoting in full. No offence, Jude. But I did notice the one sentence answer to a full page post. ^_^ Are you on a plane by any chance? I had to laugh at that too... And I have never figured it out (why it is done) ... it's as if someone will read the post and be like, "I wonder what he's responding to". Or... "Dang what did the op say? Now I gotta scroll to the top of the screen again..." If I was Tom A. I would be making "ever heard of 'Selective Quote'?" type posts "Hey Jude... don't be so sad. Take a bad quote, and make it better. Remember, to let our words into your heart, Then you can start... to make it better."
January 9, 201313 yr I was humming that song too. ^_^ That gives all more reason to become commercial pilots. True! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEIB4baOSd8
January 9, 201313 yr How about no shower guy. You know you are going on a plane for 5 hours, perhaps shower that day. If you can't manage that, how about within a time window of 48 hours before the flight. Thankfully this is somewhat rare. My all time favorite are the people that immediately get on their phones the minute they are allowed to do so (if not before). We have been in the air for and hour and they are checking their phones like they have a short position on a $100 Million stock they need to check. Then when you hear them on their phones, they have absolutely nothing to say. At least these days its mostly text so you don't have to hear it. Mark CYYZ
January 9, 201313 yr Hard to believe there was a time that you actually dressed up to get on a plane, it was an elegant experience for all, and people that flew were called the "Jet set". Was there really a time that you actually dressed up to get on a plane? Or are you just thinking of the time when everyone with lots of money dressed up nicely whenever they left the house for whatever reason, and those without lots of money couldn't afford to fly. Personally I prefer living in a time where a round-trip ticket to Australia (half-way around the world for me) costs me less than a month's salary, rather than several years. Who cares about people dressing up nicely on a plane if you can't afford to fly anyway. John-Alan Pascoe
January 9, 201313 yr I know people who are on the phone, even when they are already on the phone. But I'll add the alcohol folks to the equation. No, not the gourmets with the one glass of wine. The other ones. Yes, in the cabin, don't worry. ^_^ Was there really a time that you actually dressed up to get on a plane? Or are you just thinking of the time when everyone with lots of money dressed up nicely whenever they left the house for whatever reason, and those without lots of money couldn't afford to fly. Good question! Skip to around 05:30 if you like.

Flying was cheaper than the bus I took the first time but you would not think of showing up on the airplane dressed nicely. Now even first class non ref's rules to dress nicely to reflect positively on te company have been removed. Less about money and more about culture. Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
January 9, 201313 yr e. People that put the seat back down to relax. Most people will push the little button, then firmly but slowly ease the seat back. These people push the button then slam the seat back as quickly as possible which both results in surprising you and by smashing your knees. Im 6.2, It really annoys me when people do that especially on a 10+ hour flight! A little tip... Try your best to push your knees right up against their seat so they cant push it back, it works on the 'not' so smart ones! ^_^ To add to that... When the PTV's angle isn't at the point you can see it due to the seat being so far back even-though your seat is back also! You nearly have to break your neck to try to avoid the 'ghosting' the PTV gives off!
January 9, 201313 yr No I am thinking of a time in the late 70's... Less about money and more about culture. Yes... that was my understanding too Geof... during those "golden years" of aviation. When an "airline meal" was really a meal...
