February 9, 201313 yr This is no news. There has been several Aces guys in LM team for a long time now developing P3D. Correct! hubbub over nothing or more wishful thinking.
February 9, 201313 yr I think the future is P3D. Not if it's "for rent". I prefer to invest what little spare change I have into AC and scenery... not for the monthly P3D toll gate. Nice of Lockheed to hire a couple programers, but unless its a one time buy, I'm not interested.
February 9, 201313 yr Looks like FSX will remain "king" just under a different name, the best part is most of our FSX stuff should port over to P3D with little to no problems! What is some of the payware stuff that currently does not work in P3D? Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Eric
February 9, 201313 yr What is some of the payware stuff that currently does not work in P3D? Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Main one for me is reality xp GNS530 :( If it worked, I would switch.
February 9, 201313 yr There are plenty of things that dont work in P3D without some tweaking, if P3D does become the true successor to FSX there will be plenty of tools available to port over your favorite stuff. IF DX11 is true for V2.0 holy crap, tesselation in a flight sim, HEEEEELLLLLL YEAH!
February 9, 201313 yr The main stuff I'm concerned about is PMDG, Fly Tampa, FS dream team, Aerosoft, Flight Sim Lab, Realair and Flightbeam. Does anyone know if these all work? Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Eric
February 9, 201313 yr Commercial Member Sadly, this is rather old news. When ACES closed, LM purchased ESP and turned it into P3D. When that happened, they took on a few of the ACES crew. So in reality, its been this way for the last 5 years. I don't know if LM has hired more of the ACES crew (haven't heard anything) or if this is a new step, but I would take this information with a grain of salt, and nothing that says ACES is reforming or anything. From what I have seen, the crew at LM are very small with a limited budget. Maybe they just got the go for a bigger budget? It would be nice. I played around in P3D a bit, but I didn't see anything greatly improved over FSX other then the addition of under-water, and a slicker UI. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
February 9, 201313 yr I thought they brought on some former ACES members many months ago. Have they brought on more recently? This is no news. There has been several Aces guys in LM team for a long time now developing P3D. DX11 rendering engine is a known fact for 2.0 version scheduled some time this year. Sadly, this is rather old news. When ACES closed, LM purchased ESP and turned it into P3D. When that happened, they took on a few of the ACES crew. So in reality, its been this way for the last 5 years. This was all my understanding too. While I'm glad to see positive comments about P3D, it seems like some people are making way too much stew out of one oyster, or in this case the rumors of one. I'd rather keep a conservative outlook and not be bitterly disappointed. I guess you could call me cautiously optimistic. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! February 9, 201313 yr I had a feeling that Lockheed Martin could possibly revisit their licensing policy once MS was out of the picture. I was holding off on the purchase until the license issue was resolved. Not do to eula issues, but what third party developers would do and where things would eventually go. This looks very promising and I think the future is P3D. What License issue?
February 9, 201313 yr Thanks for the fun read, but I'll stick with the antique. Its worth a lot more to me. MSFS
February 9, 201313 yr We have a whole bunch of "Debbie-Downers" here! Have some hope guys... lol Nothing personal, but I have never heard of such a non event being hyped up to such a degree. So a few ex Aces members were looking for a job and got one at LM, well I suppose it might help them get updates out a bit quicker. Bryan

This looks very promising and I think the future is P3D. Lockheed Martin have let us come along for the ride so far, like an open Beta test if you like, but any time they want they can pull the plug. That's why PMDG are so concerned about their user base being left high and dry and unable to use their products in P3D. Anyone using P3D is just renting the software, they don't own it and the "landlord" can decide to evict the "tenant" any time they want. Bryan.
February 9, 201313 yr Correct! hubbub over nothing or more wishful thinking. Let me point out a possibility. The code base for FSX is huge and required many programming skill sets in different areas. There is not any original ACES dev team member that is an expert on all of the code. It very well may be that they have identified areas of the code that need to be rewritten, and for all intent and purposes, they know which team members can effectively address it. Programmers are programmers, but familiarity and expertise in those areas where the knowledge required to interface with hardware i.e. graphics as an example, require specific skills to effectively get the job done. I would not write this off quite yet. Bob Officially retired
February 9, 201313 yr Well who knows, it's all talk and speculation until we have an actual usable build in our hands (i.e. one that has significant changes to core FSX code)! It's interesting to hear about though. Part of me is thrilled that there may be some progress finally towards a modernized/fixed/improved version of FSX, but part of me is also mortified at the thought of potentially losing compatibility with hundreds of $$$ worth of stuff I've bought for FSX over the years. Still, at some point one ALWAYS runs into the backwards compatibility barrier and in the end it's always for the best! Every hobby has a cost and I am sure at somepoint they will have to kill backwards compatibility with a lot of our add-on's My hobby when I was younger was drag racing and on some single bad days in that hobby I broke parts worth 10 times what I have spent on FSX. For me it's not the money I have spent on addon's I worry about the LACK of addon's... I would switch over to x-plane if they had planes like the NGX.
