February 9, 201313 yr Commercial Member Fantastic news! I didn't want to consider buying and migratin to P3D, but now... Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.
February 9, 201313 yr Fantastic news! I didn't want to consider buying and migratin to P3D, but now... Well who knows, it's all talk and speculation until we have an actual usable build in our hands (i.e. one that has significant changes to core FSX code)! It's interesting to hear about though. Part of me is thrilled that there may be some progress finally towards a modernized/fixed/improved version of FSX, but part of me is also mortified at the thought of potentially losing compatibility with hundreds of $$$ worth of stuff I've bought for FSX over the years. Still, at some point one ALWAYS runs into the backwards compatibility barrier and in the end it's always for the best!

Get P3d eventfully but thousands of $$$ in payware want majority to work especially ariel scenery and ga planes
February 9, 201313 yr Still, at some point one ALWAYS runs into the backwards compatibility barrier and in the end it's always for the best! Yep, that's pretty much it. Eventually it's something all of us FSX users will have to go through if we want to get some of the things we want. Whether it happens in P3D or X-Plane or somewhere completely unexpected, there will be a break and reset for those of us who want to continue to pursue the hobby and move forward. Scott
February 9, 201313 yr I'm sure we all have plenty of time before their contributions are realized in a consumer retail version of P3D. With Microsoft completely abandoning the flight sim franchise, it's only logical P3D will have to inevitably change their licensing policy and become the next gen flight simulator. Thank god most of our current fsx addons will probably be supported. Moving from fs9 to fsx and losing all the addons I had and repurchasing most of them was enough of a wallet crunch. Wouldn't want to do that again. Sent from my iPhone...typing errors imminent AJ Pongress
February 9, 201313 yr Author Commercial Member Its all good IMO. The FSX franchise moves on but under a new umbrella. Cheers jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
February 9, 201313 yr Looks like FSX will remain "king" just under a different name, the best part is most of our FSX stuff should port over to P3D with little to no problems!
February 9, 201313 yr Author Commercial Member Phil was a good diplomat, but I felt as a PM he didn't put enough energy into "selling" FSX 64bit and DX10 (in addition to the 32bit compatible product) to the "mothership" as he called it. Looks like Phil is working for Intel Gaming now ... I should contact one of my Intel engineer friends that's currently working on Larrabee and see if he knows Phil. If you look at Phil's linked in profile oh what could have been if Microsoft were able to look at the bigger picture ... IMHO Microsoft OWED the continued survival of FS, it was a key Microsoft gaming application that put Microsoft on the map for games. Anyway, looking forward to seeing what the P3D folks come up with. Poor Phil was limited by the MS marketing machine. Despite that he still was a great software engineer working under a cloud as many of us do. Would have been different if Bill was still holding the reigns. Regards jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
February 9, 201313 yr We really need an SP3 with full DX10/11 and 64-bit compatibility, but I don't think Lockheed would allow an update to FSX since they want to make $ from P3D. February 9, 201313 yr Author Commercial Member Stay tuned Luis - P3D 2.0 will be great! Cheers jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
February 9, 201313 yr oh what could have been if Microsoft were able to look at the bigger picture .. ...but that was the problem, MS did look at the "bigger picture" and we weren't it!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
February 9, 201313 yr Okay P3D just went to a whole new level! Seems like more bug fixes than before with that new platform. Happy Flying, Clem Wu Beta Tester for OZx, Iris Simulations and Shade.
February 9, 201313 yr I had a feeling that Lockheed Martin could possibly revisit their licensing policy once MS was out of the picture. I was holding off on the purchase until the license issue was resolved. Not do to eula issues, but what third party developers would do and where things would eventually go. This looks very promising and I think the future is P3D. Don't blame for my name, my parents were hippies and met in Woodstock
February 9, 201313 yr This is no news. There has been several Aces guys in LM team for a long time now developing P3D. DX11 rendering engine is a known fact for 2.0 version scheduled some time this year. It is still very unlikely that P3D will turn to consumer product. All this is known for most of us P3D users. This doesn't mean that I'm not thrilled about development and I've been using P3D exclusively since ver 1.4 came out around last summer or so. Sent from my Lumia 800 using Board Express

This looks very promising and I think the future is P3D. How do you interpret hiring former Aces developers, as changing the licensing policy? It's not going to happen under the brand Lockheed Martin! Even if MS released them from the no entertainment use clause, LM would never officially offer a consumer level product. It's not their market. Do you really think a company that is primarily a military defense contractor, would want to get into the entertainment gaming business? We're lucky for now, they are allowing us to come along for the ride in the guise of an "Academic version". I don't see that changing. The only way I see a version of P3D being officially offered for entertainment use, would be if they sold the rights to another entity, and MS released that entity from the No entertainment clause. I don't see that happening either. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
