The 777 is causing way to much tension!!. I suggest a flight in the NGX to Moscow for a visit to the Kremlin, or trip to Ibitha with the NGX to let off a bit of steam.

Perhaps Spoon said what some have been thinking.........However all good things come to those that wait.

Look, lets all just calm down and not get excited about a little thing.

Lets all concentrate all of our energy to the powers at PMDG to help them with the problem at hand, and that is perfecting the T7 and the DC6.

Thanks, Oliver. But that's exactly the point I'm making (and have made before). The admins should not close threads at all. I agree that the conversation needs to be civil, but, the goal of AVSIM should be to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas. If there are instances of people being rude or biligerent, by all means warn the culprit--and ban them if necessary. (They'll probably ban me in fact just for challenging the regime.) But AVSIM's practices lately have grown increasingly heavy handed and overbroad. I wasn't kidding when I compared their tactics to a communist dictator. History teaches us that such repression of ideas degenerates the fabric of society and polarizes people--all for the sake of preserving the regime. How many people need to flock to Flightsim.com before they see the error of their ways?

You really want no moderation at all? Unmoderated forums can be very nasty places, because some people lose all moral inhibition when they post on the internet. Moderation helps stop forums like this becoming like the Wild West with people hurling abuse at each other and generally getting nowhere in relation to the subject under discussion. But staff can't and don't monitor every post so generally have to rely on members reporting abuses to them. In this case they are actively watching the topic, because it is a tinderbox of a subject. The rules applied are no different, so this isn't a restriction on your freedom to say what you like, as long as that is within the forum rules we are all supposed to abide by.

No one is censoring this forum or telling people what they should say, so any analogy to a communist dictatorship is well wide of the mark.

Man, I'm an avid Avsim reader for years but still a newbie to the forums and I would not dare to ask the OP's question. Just sit back and relax, check avsim or PMDG's website everyday. People are watching them like a hawk waiting for this beauty in the sky to be released. (including me) When there will be a release day trust me, it will be on the front page =)

I do think the mods have a place in maintaining order, but there's a sharp distinction between quelling incendiary debates and demonizing anyone who has an opinion. Just take a look at what they did to Word Not Allowed when his FSX setup guide presented itself as an alternative approach to the "Official" AVSIM guide written by Paul J. Word Not Allowed learned the hard way that AVSIM won't stand idly by when a forum user has the audacity to contradict NickN on the topic of anisotropic filtering settings in FSX. Word Not Allowed's thread at http://forum.avsim.net/topic/370594-software-hardware-guide-for-fsx/ USED to contain a link to his guide and the guide by Paul J. People flocked to the thread and Word Not Allowed acquired quite the following, with people posting comments about his guide and how it had helped them achieve better performance. If you look at the thread now, AVSIM has removed the link to Word Not Allowed's guide but left all of the positive comments in place, making it appear as though people were referring instead to the Official AVSIM guide--which has a complete different approach. When I posted in that thread (which is when I found the link to Word Not Allowed's guide, I asked for a comparison of the approaches because I was curious about the differences between AF, bufferpools and the like. The very next day someone asked a question of Word Not Allowed, and someone else replied that Word Not Allowed had been banned. Shortly thereafter, those posts, my post, and several other posts were gone--together with the link to Word Not Allowed's guide.

Now tell me what separates that from communism. It starts subtly enough with scare tactics like "special surveillance," and before you know it they've gone and made someone (and his opinions) completely disappear.

Place your bets for when this gets locked!

What I can't understand and probably never will, is how can people get offended by stuff posted on an Internet forum? I mean, do you really take things so personal? Except for the very few who have probably met in person, most of us here are strangers to each other. So why would I get offended or irritated because someone asked a question which I deem is stupid or unnecessary?

At any given time here at AVSIM, there are literally hundreds of new threads and posts for your reading pleasure. If you don't like a thread, just skip to the next one for crying out loud.

Maybe it is because I've been called every cuss word available to the English language in my past 16 years of law enforcement that perhaps has desensitized me, and I couldn't care less what an Internet stranger throws at me, but some people really need to just let things slide and move on.

So someone hasn't added their name to their signature... So what!?!? Does this really affect you on a personal level? Are you going to lose your job, your home over this?

The Forum Police Syndrome is real and it's not just here, it's everywhere!

+1, forum vigilantes are one of my biggest pet peeves and sometimes its them who get threads locked, but in regards to the topic people shouldn't get too worked up over a thread but on the flip side if a new thread has been created on a subject that has been beaten to death so much I can see why people would get a little annoyed.

I do think the mods have a place in maintaining order, but....

My two cents - A post of mine got deleted today - not controversial or combative or abusive - simply a normal explanatory response to another poster on why sometimes people mixup FS9 and FSX forums. Both his and mine posts were deleted - a completely civil polite conversation. Overzealous moderation much? I don't post much but this bugged me. Oh well...who really cares. I'll just spend more time at some other website/forum.

More drama at drama central.

Nothing ever changes around here.

A little drama from time to time just spices up everyday life a little, we all need a little drama in our lives B) . Who doesn't like to argue abit, and as long as no namecalling and personal attacks occur, I think it's healty to unlease some frustrations once in a while, and then we move on. :Peace:

It's just human nature. If everyone acted the same way and everone agreed, the world would be a boring place. Bimmercop would have a boring deskjob without any action, because there wouldn't be any need for cops :P and the forum mods could take a long vacation because they would be redundant, now that would be really boring...
