March 21, 201313 yr I bought my trackIR last summer and used it extensively for the first 6 months. Now I find that I'm reluctant to turn it on as I've become more apt to grab the mouse and move it for better views and wider shots. Almost seems as though I missed a lot of the natural camera angles before I started using Trackir.  Maybe I've become better at multitasking  .  Anybody else with the same experience? I noticed quite a few ads in the Buy/Swap Avsim forum for people selling it off.   Â
March 21, 201313 yr I've had TrackIr for several years and mainly used it in FSX. When Flight came out, I used it a bit and then eventually narrowed it down to just using it with the Stearman. Now I hardly use it at all. I'll keep it though just in case I want to use it again sometime. Thank you. March 21, 201313 yr Never had one, so no I've never used it. But I find it quite natural and easy to use the mouse look functions. Probably like you say..just good at multi tasking Do not judge people until you've walked a mile in their shoes. Then at least you are a mile ahead of them when you ###### them off...
March 21, 201313 yr Oh yes I use mine extensively in all my flight sims. With Flight, I may pause it occasionally and use the POV hat , mainly when looking for a specific angle for say a screen shot. But I do use it the vast majority of the time. Don B
March 21, 201313 yr Used it for FSX,but never liked it really because it disturbs me to have something on my head. Since MSFlight came out i moved over to mouse control because it`s very well done, fast and without stutters. I hope someday the Kinect thing will take over. In the beta forums of Flight over at MS one year ago the developers were talking about that.
March 21, 201313 yr Bought it but returned it. Â I initially got a sore neck from it but after that it just seemed like one more thing to manage and one too many programs running. It's great but I felt disoriented using it and found it hard to get some of the angles right. Â Â It seems like a great product and i'm not blaming it BUT, after i got trackir 5 it was down hill from there and about a week later I could not, for the life of me, boot up mi windows 7. Â I had to do a complete factory recover back to original state and reload FSX and about 50 programs...took me a week!!! Â I don't know what caused my OS to crash but just the possibility of any remote link between Trackir 5 and crashing Windows 7 made it not worth reisntalling Trackir when using a cost-benefit-risk analysis.

March 21, 201313 yr I bought it as soon as it became available for MS Flight. I was very pleasantly suprised from my very first flight, and I use it constantly. It's especially nice when you approach a runway at right angles and half to do a big wide 90 degree turn to line up. Always having the approach lights in view helps me carve a nice approach angle and slope. It also adds to the immersion experience.Â
March 21, 201313 yr  I bought it as soon as it became available for MS Flight. I was very pleasantly suprised from my very first flight, and I use it constantly.  My first experience with Track IR, was the Track IR3. I purchased it to use in IL2 Forgotten Battles/Pacific Fighters. After installing and running for about 15 minutes, I thought I was in heaven. I was so amazed by that thing, and the immersion it gave - being able to turn my head to follow an enemy plane, looking all around by simply moving my head. And that was with just 2 DOF!  I then got the Vector Expansion for it when it came out, then the Track IR4, and now the Track IR5. Until Flight was released last year, I had not flown a flight sim without a Track IR running. And I was so glad when they added support for it in Flight.  My biggest worry when I first ordered that Track IR3, was I easily get nauseous - can not even hardly play a FPS because of this. Flying and racing sims however never seemed to bother me. I was worried using a Track IR would make me very nauseous. I was pleasantly surprised to find it did not bother me at all.  I guess because I have used one for so long now, and it is just second nature now to me, flying without one just seems very weird, like I have stepped back in time or something. March 21, 201313 yr it's the immersion & flexibility of view that makes it all worthwhile.  howevere the "success" of using trackIR is for me it seems more about what you "fly" and how / what "switching" you need to do in those take-off & landing phases.  for example, using trackIR in a jet requires i believe that you need to be able to "switch" modes headings etc. with keys & buttons (such as you can setup on a logitech G13 & / or a GoFlight MCP) & not need to use a mouse !!  on the other hand, if you fly low & slow, the demands in this are a lot less ... trackIR & mouse switching is manageable. for now, cheers john martin
March 21, 201313 yr For me TrackIR helps make flight an amazing experience. It just works naturally and I could not imagine Flight without it.    I have just bought and installed X-plane and find that there I am switching to the 2D panel or pausing TrackIR to set various instruments.Â
March 21, 201313 yr The most important part of hardware for me beside the yoke/joystick and rudder pedals. I use it in every flight and it makes things really easy and immersive (taxiing, take offs, especially patterns and landings) Together with my FFB joystick (driven by FS Force) and the Buttkicker I am in heaven! ;-) As close as possible to the real thing.
March 21, 201313 yr Use it exclusively, have used it for many years. Â Can't imagine flying without it. Â Recently I did a virgin FSX install for a friend and had to test it using the mouse to pan. Â Couldn't get the hang of it and couldn't possibly go back. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
