March 22, 201313 yr sold mine as well but mainly fly tubeliners with opus "look into the turn" switch on plus opus camers is more than enough ZORAN

March 22, 201313 yr I must say when I was offered a TrackIR4 few years ago I thought wow, what an expense of money for THAT ?? But I have a disabled right arm, and my oh my, there are many games I use it for now !! It started with TDU and FSX, then to Race07, rFactor, TDU2, I even got it worked in a modded version of Oblivion, and many other games... Now I can't run Euro Truck Sim 2, Evochron Mercenary nor Flight without it, it would kill my immersion In some games like Flight, I don't use it all the time, mostly when lateral quick views are necessary (take-off & landing, patrols, fly-by...). The good thing is that it is quick to (de)activate, easy to use with good profiles available for it, easy to configure your own profile in few clics...
March 22, 201313 yr I have been back and forth on this so many times I can't count... A question for those who swear by TIR... Do you only sim in a dark room? I have tried everything but unless I have the window blinds drawn and the TV that is 12 feet behind me turned off I get very erratic behavior at the most inopportune times possible!!! Rolling down the runway and all of a sudden it goes berserk anytime there is light or reflection in the room. Now if the entire room is shaded/darkened it works great but I don't like always having the blinds drawn and sitting in a darkened room. Are you able to use TIR normally in a room with normal light and windows open or do you have to "prep" the room for TIR? Thank you, -Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
March 22, 201313 yr A question for those who swear by TIR... Do you only sim in a dark room? My computer is in my home office, which is a den that has two side windows, and a plasma tv about 15 ft behind me, offset a little to my right. I currently use the hat clip, however I have the pro clip that I have not tried yet as I normally do not wear a headset. I understand the pro clip is a little better for this. During a sunny day, even with my blinds closed on my two windows , the light can get through and interfere with my TIR5. I have increased the light filtering setting to around 200, which has helped some - but occasionally yes, it can interfere a little. My TV does not seem to have an effect. In my case, it is normally only a small period of time during the morning that the sun is in position to do that, so it is really not that big an issue for me. Certainly simming in the evenings is no problem at all. But yes, any light force that gets in the way can cause erratic behavior which is frustrating. Best way to tell if this is going to happen, open the software and look at the camera view, there should only be three dots, anything else is interference. Don B
March 22, 201313 yr I don't particularly like wearing the head gear and find using EZdok's Mouse Look feature an excellent alternative for panning around the cockpit. The use of the mouse look feature however is impossible when flying helicopters because of the need to constantly have your hands on the throttle and joystick (X52) and therefore restrict its use to that type of flying. A very useful and informative response, at least it isn't just me. For some reason it seems to always happen at the worst times though! Just Murphy's law I suppose I wonder about setting up a dark screen or something behind me for simming. Maybe one of those folding screens in black for example... Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
March 22, 201313 yr I guess it's what you get used too. I tend to use mine in FLIGHT exclusively, I find that in FSX cause their I mainly fly tubes that I get a dizzy head as I'm constantly trying to keep an eye on the instruments and peek out the window.
March 22, 201313 yr I read somewhere that some people but a strip of 35 mm film over the camera and had no more problems. I will have to try that myself. Mostly I turn off the overhead light and use a small goose-neck reading light at night. During the day the blinds need to be pulled. Distracting to be on finale and have the view change to the back seat. Still, I don't like to fly with out it. Steve
March 22, 201313 yr I used it extensively since TIR4 until I discovered EZCA. Now I use it only for taxying and flying T&G's. George T
March 22, 201313 yr Thank you very much Don! A very useful and informative response, at least it isn't just me. For some reason it seems to always happen at the worst times though! Just Murphy's law I suppose I wonder about setting up a dark screen or something behind me for simming. You are very welcome, I am glad it was useful for you! Whenever it happens again, pause the camera - and take a good look around. Sometimes it can be hard to figure out what source is causing it, could be a light ray getting through a window bouncing off and object and directing a small ray into the camera's path. Or just a lamp that is placed in a location that happens to interfere with it. Again open up the camera view in the Track IR software , and you will probably see a large dot that is not one of the three main dots, that is the interference. Find a way to get rid of that, and you will be home free. Could be simply increasing the light filtering threshold in the software, to moving a lamp, etc. Once you can eliminate that, or at least minimize it drastically, the enjoyment level goes up much higher. Good luck, Don B
March 22, 201313 yr I used to use TrackIR 5 all the time util i upgraded my system to where i have t 18.5" monitors below my 2 27" monitors which i use to put the guages on etc hence i have no need to pan around the cockpit as much...i simply use my hat switch and Opus DHM for the wobbling effects i9 13900KF @ 5.5Ghz | MoBo MSI PRO Z690-A WiFi | Corsair Vengeance Black RGB RS 64gb DDR4 3200MHz | MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Vanguard SOC 32GB | MP33 Pro 1TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD for OS | Samsung 870 QVO 2.5" 4TB SSD SATA2 | Samsung 990 PRO 2TB | Corsair RM1000X 2021 1300W 80 Plus Gold PSU | Antec Dark Fleet DF700 Flux Gaming Case | Win 11 home | Samsung 65" 4K TV | G512 Keyboard | Razer Basilisk V2 Mouse | WinCtrl URSA MINOR 32 Throttle Metal / 32 PAC Metal | WinCtrl Ursa Minor Sidestick |Velocity One Rudder | MiniCockpit FCU and EFIS | WinCtrl MCDU | Stream Deck XL | Tobii Eye Tracker | Pimax Crystal Light | Doug

March 22, 201313 yr I think the usefulness of TrackIR partially depends on the zoom level you prefer. For example, if you go for the extreme fisheye zoom, where you can see both wingtips at the same time, then TrackIR is probably more of an annoyance than anything else. As you zoom in, it gets more useful until a point where you'll use it occasionally but the mouse look is still all you need for occasionally glances around. If you zoom in even more, it becomes essential. For example, my default cockpit zoom is 1.0 to 1.5 so that the cockpit appears approximately life size and I have to look around constantly. I may leave TrackIR paused looking forward occasionally, but most of the time it's tracking my head. Hook Larry Hookins Oh!
