Do you use TrackIR in Flight

Featured Replies

I just purchased TrackIR 5 a couple of days ago after reading all the praise heaped on it. I've only tried it briefly in Flight, right out of the box, to check that it worked.

It's impressive, but I can see I'll need to tweak it some. I assume you can do that with the software. I'd like to make it have a sort of a neutral zone right in the center so I can move my head a little without it registering. I kind of got the feeling I'd get a stiff neck trying to hold the view steady.

Are there game-specific profiles you can load? Or does it just sense what you're playing? I'd appreciate any beginner tips anybody has.

Hi Matt,

There is a bunch you can do in the Track IR software, to tweak it to your individual preference.

The first thing I would highly recommend, is reading over the manual - at least twice.

Also, have a look at this video on setting it up - now it is referring to DCS-A10C, but has a lot of good information nonetheless.

In regards to game specific profles, yes - there are some built in profiles that came with the software.

First, you want to make sure you game list is up to date. Open the software, click on the game update tab on the upper right.

Next, in the software, click on the Titles tab. There you will see a list of Track IR supported titles, and to the right, the profile it will load when that title is run. I found the " Flight" profile to be a pretty good starting point for me. So if you want say the flight profile to load when you start up MS Flight, scroll down the titles list to MS Flight, and click on the drop down box under " profile" and select the Flight profile. Now each time Flight launches, with the Track IR software running, the Flight profile will load and will be what is active for you in the device.

Of course, you can customize and save individual profiles as well with their own custom names also.

In my case, I think all I did was tweak the Flight profile a little, and it works well for me - and I have a deadzone in the middle as you describe.

I hope this helps, get it to where you like it, and have a bunch of fun!

edit: You can also choose a profile and select the " exclusive" box, and it will always load that profile no matter what title you run. I have different profiles for different sims, so I prefer to have them selected in the aforementioned titles list.

I have just bought and installed X-plane and find that there I am switching to the 2D panel or pausing TrackIR to set various instruments.

i can only guess the plane you fly ... but i can encourage you (& other trackIR users) to program keys / buttons to set those instruments or alternatively use MCE (commands).  this allows you to have continuous use of trackIR (no pausing etc) and without a mouse !!

my aplogies if my thoughts can't apply to Xplane or MSF .. i'm a FSX user.

for now, cheers

Thanks, Don, those are just the sort of tips I was looking for. I appreciate it.

You are very welcome, good luck and let us know how you make out.

Use it all the time in FSX and Falcon 4 BMS.  Can't imagine going back to hat views...

If you need some game profiles, you can go to the official website ; or you also can try an internet search in forums, I found that many specialized forums often have a genius about setting Tir for the right game...

There are some profiles meant to keep a "large"  deadzone that are already set, like the one called GTL Flat-slow. Modifying this one can also be a start for Flight if you need less movement detection :)

I came so close to buying one, but decided Ive spent enough on FSX. What I did, was downloaded a little program called X Mouse Button Control

http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/XMouseButtonControl.htm

It allows me to make the click wheel activate the mouse panning, so that when I want to look around, I just reach over, click the wheel, pan around, recenter and click again to disable. Works great on all generic mice.

Hmmmm, since I dont have rudder pedals yet, perhaps I could put it on the floor, activate it with my big toe..... nah, never mind.

Let's keep this topic on track, please. We're not discussing how to make TrackIr work with any sim but Microsoft Flight.

Thank you.
