April 24, 201313 yr I don't own the bird yet but if you're looking for RW Q400 routes in some good FS scenery, look at Alaska/Horizon. Lots of their routes I'm sure would fall within the Orbx boundaries.

April 24, 201313 yr Commercial Member So Far I have done all Brickyard flying in this bird, KDEN-KABQ-KDEN and KDEn-KJAC-KDEN. The JAC-DEN leg was great, snow (and icing!) on both ends, and flew the ILS 35L right down to minimums! - Jordan Jafferjee - AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D | Asus X670-E Pro Prime | Gigabyte RTX4080 Eagle | 64G G.Skill Trident Z.5 DDR5-6000 | Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 | 2x2TB Samsung 990 Pro NVME | NZXT H7 | Win 11 24H2 | TM Warthog Flight Stick + Throttle | Honeycomb Alpha + Bravo | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | Samsung 43" Odyssey Neo G7 | Dell U3415W
April 24, 201313 yr We really need a good FSX airport addon for Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport CYTZ!!! http://simaddons.com/pages/simaddons_preview_CYTZ.htm
April 26, 201313 yr So, now that the dust has begun to settle and people have gotten more hours in on this beautiful bird, let's share some of our favourite legs! Mine thus far has got to be Wideroe flight WF906 from Tromso, Lagnes ENTC to Hammerfest ENHF. (Now I know wideroe operates it on Dash-8 100) Both airports available in the Airports of Norway package. B) A bit more than 100 nm and the approach, atleast runway 23 in Hammerfest is a blast, flying quite low over the town and trees to land on this rather short rwy (880 meters/ 2,890 ft). Another quite nice, a bit longer flight is from Toronto City Center to Quebec Jean Lesage City Airport. Nice view of the Toronto city skyline. Now let's hear yours!! I decided to try your Leg. As I approached the runway, I got more and more worried that the Dash 8 might not fit in there. I even recorded the landing. Nice suggestion! Beautiful route Alexis Mefano
April 26, 201313 yr Hmm... Me's going to have to brush up on my controlled crashes before attempting that one. My loop so far has been YBBN-YBUD (DCT)-YTNG (DCT)-YBBN (eagle-smoka5V). Mike Mike Dryden
April 26, 201313 yr I don't own the bird yet but if you're looking for RW Q400 routes in some good FS scenery, look at Alaska/Horizon. Lots of their routes I'm sure would fall within the Orbx boundaries. Just beware Alaska sometimes uses company only RNAV airways which may not exist in your navdata. Australia is also nice, if you have Orbx sceneries installed. Routes: Brisbane (Anthony Lynch) - Hervey Bay (Orbx) YBBN BN2 ITIDE T55 YHBA Cairns (Orbx) - Hamilton Island (Anthony Lynch) YBCS CS9 SWIFT Z17 HM YBHM Cairns (Orbx) - Horn Island (Default, too bad the OZx Torres Islands package didn't include this airport) YBCS CS9 DREWS R204 HID YHID Cairns (Orbx) - Port Moresby YBCS CS9 ZANEY R210 PY AYPY In Europe, the most interesting routes IMO would be going to/from Austria, Switzerland and of course Norway. If you want to go somewhere exotic then Ethiopia would by my choice.
April 26, 201313 yr Favourite (real world) Q400 route so far (and well covered by good quality add-on scenery) :- Wideroe; ENZV (Stavanger, Norway) <> EGNT (Newcastle, UK) Stavanger scenery: Aerosoft Stavanger X Newcastle Scenery: UK2000 Newcastle Flight Plan: ENZV DCT ALOTI UM89 ROBEM UM82 DIGBI DCT EGNT @ FL240 Block time: 80mins
April 26, 201313 yr I decided to try your Leg. As I approached the runway, I got more and more worried that the Dash 8 might not fit in there. I even recorded the landing. Nice suggestion! Beautiful route love it! very nice footage. do you have rex water? A bit low, short field should be a steep angle if my flying training memory serves my right, but hey you got her in nicely and I agree , it looked like you had no chance for a while! what do you use to record your flights ZORAN
April 26, 201313 yr Author Great video Alec! I flew my approach to rwy 23, with some 15 kt winds gusting to 25 from 240 I think, that was a blast! I think that end of the rwy looks a bit more rural than I remember seeing on my sim, as I was getting below 1000 ft above ground I remember there was bit more houses and trees right up to the rwy 23 threshold. Did you install all relevant Norway scenery addons? It really makes the fjords, which I thought looked amazing default (well, UTX and GEX EU installed), stand out beautifully and enhances the approaches which are crazy even in real life http://www.freewarescenery.com/fsx/norway.html (for hammerfest Airports of Norway, Norway Scenic X and for FS9 Norway quality mesh. All meshes for FS9 tend to work on FSX, and so does this) Great to hear you enjoyed it as much as I did.
April 26, 201313 yr I even recorded the landing. Nicely done. I love landing videos with built-in "uh-oh, what was I thinking?" April 26, 201313 yr Thanks guys! I did download the Norway Airport Package. For Mesh I have FSGenesis NextMap. What I missed was better default ground textures, maybe FTX Global will make that look better. I didn't search long for scenery, since I wanted to fly the Dash8 more and tweak my FSX less, but maybe I will now search for good scenery around this area. I thought I wouldn't have made it too. In Real Life it would have been very unconfortable for the passengers, as I used full reverse and full braking. Im not using any addon for Watex, it's all default. My FSX certainly needs some polish in the Scenery. I used FRAPS to record the video. I'll try some of the other route suggestions from this topic, as doing the ones I'm used to in my country isn't too much fun, since there's no DASH-8 flying here. Alexis Mefano
April 26, 201313 yr I'm using http://flightaware.com/live/aircrafttype/DH8D?;offset=0;order=origin;sort=DESC to find RW world flights. So far I've done: KSEA-CYVR, KBOS-CYUL, LOWI-LOWW and LOWI-EDDF Harry - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).
April 26, 201313 yr Alaska/Horizon KSEA - KRNO SUMMA7 LKV BAARB GASSI ANAHO2 FL190 Favorite so far, takes you over the cascades about the first 1/3. West of Mt. Ranier, St. Helens, and Mt. Adams. Then cross over to the East of Mt. Hood and the Oregon Cascade Range. Enjoyed it the whole way!! Kevin Looney
