Money spend on addons

It started with the Acceleration pack. It's been downhill since.

It's like adding up the number of times you eat out in a year. Don't do it!

I have a hard time resisting a bargain even if I don't have time to use it right away.

I've had a hard time breaking myself of this habit;  I also game a fair bit (less now, simming takes up most of my pc time) and Steam sales 2 or 3 times a year invariably would lighten my wallet by $100 or so 'just because things are so cheap, why not, I'll eventually play it...'

Never happens.  I must have 100 games in my Steam library that I've never even installed. And thus, I've had to recognize that habit (marketing scheme?) and break myself of it.

I'm afraid to tot up my costs accurately, only to say when I did so, not too long ago, I could have paid for a PPL rating!

... 'cos it's not just the addons for goodness sake... as Jose said, think of all the hardware costs and upgrades, ikes!

Don't want to know, but 3,000 USD or more is a good round figure, that's reason enough not to switch sims..lol I am hooked ya I know, get a life

LOL:  I'm afraid to let the wifey find out...

My wife does know, she thinks around a 1,000 USD, lets keep it that way

Cheaper than college tuition or golfing everyday. Have 10k worth of autobody tools that noob amount. Auto Mechanics spend like 30,000 or more on tools alone. No free lunch with any hobby or job

I'm afraid to look to be honest :)

Me too LOL :) But even if I ever do it, will never stop buying what I want.

Stan

NEVER, EVER add up what you spend on your hobby. As long as you pay the rent, put food on the table and can keep your wife in new shoes, you're good to go.

The only thing I would advise is to add up what you spend on cigarettes....Then you'll realise what a dumbass you really are.

The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

I am sitting here wondering why I spend so much money on add ons. I have been wondering this since MS announced that they are not supporting the software anymore. That means as the OS keep getting better the software will become more incompatible. We have just started to get things lined out with Win 7 and MS releases Win 8. Granted it is more designed for tablet atmosphere but it is a sign for things to come. I have all of PMDG, CS, Carenado, Eaglesoft, Feel there, BBS, GEX, UTX, three different weather programs, countless add on airports, and countless other add ons. Our favorite platform will eventually die. The support is gone already. So what does that leave us to wonder. What is next. Not everyone is a fan of Laminar. I have their version 9 and haven't spent nearly as much time and investment in it as I wish I had. But they are still around. I am looking at Lockheed Martins P3D but can't see spending the cash when my favorite planes aren't supported or require the use of the software against the license in which it was purchased. I am in the T7 wait camp but after buying the q400 I think it has just lost the thrill. That is why I believe it to be my last purchase toward a future that has an end. I sit here and look over my head at countless software boxes that are no longer compatible with today's machine. My last computer cost me just shy of 8 grand by the time I bought all of the parts to assemble this rig. Never thought I would add water cooling to a machine in the 80's but hey go with the flow right. It works to my amazement. I sail, fly, shoot and play on the computer. I like the computer the most because the fuel sure is cheaper. But when you figure in the cost add ons into the problem it would have paid my hanger rent for a couple of years, bought a little fuel, and paid part of my maint. bill! Thanks to the op for helping me put some prospective on this little hobby. I really should have put pen and paper to this long ago. Nuff complaining guess I will enjoy it while it last. Cpt out.

Robert J McGill

Lots and lots, but not as much as most of you guys. About $500 this year on addons. Not much before that. Not buying any more until I am finished the AoA 737 training. Except PFPX perhaps or other highly relivant NGX addons. Would like GSX but my system is already maxed out and needs no more stress. Next FSX Purchase is a Haswell based PC. Flying a real sailplane costs me about $2500 a year!

Of course it's going to look expensive if you add up everything you've spent over the course of several years. The same is true for a cell phone subscription, cable TV or any other non-essential luxury (coffee, cigarettes, beer or whatever your poison of choice is).

I think it's more relevant how much you spend per month vs how much you make in a month. If you have a regular full-time job, you're probably going to find that the cost of one or two add-ons a month doesn't jeopardize  your financial situation.

Hello

Since 2004 Around £3000 on FS9 and £3000 on FSX.

Plus £2000 on controls and Goflight stuff.

Totally wasted as I have not used either Sim in four months and cannot see myself getting back into it.

Don't know how it happened but one day I just realised it was not fun anymore.

I would love to have all those days and hours back now that I wasted sitting behind this PC.

The money does not matter, never did. but my personal relationships would be in a better place that's for sure.

If you divide it by the hours of joy it gives to you, I'm sure the result is not too disturbing...

Last time I added up it was over 1700 UK pounds on software alone , if I add in the last pc & then my new one I dread to think.
