No, I am not experimenting with torrents (never did that) ... and the delivery platform will be flightsim.com (and they told me, they are prepared ... I hope so).

By the way guys ... after I have packaged most of the data, my script did also generate the final coverage map (it will be a KML overlay helping in the download process) which looks like this (only the northern most tiles DON'T extend that far up ... only a few degrees instead of 10):

I have the feeling that the answer to my question is no but...

I am running xplane on an ssd so space is limited.   Is there any way to load your mesh and remove the default mesh from xplane?   I see you noted the download is 55GB, not sure if it becomes larger uncompressed on the ssd or not.  Either way if I can removed many default gigs of xplane mesh that would be great.

Portugal and Spain are in!!!! Hurray!!!!!! :flag-69:

First: yes, you can remove regions / DSFs for which you have my HD Mesh Scenery, just be careful (its just that you then need to re-install from DVD if you need the old stuff again). My HD Mesh Scenery v2 is a complete replacement for default Global Scenery.

Second: the file size will be the same when unzipped (the ZIP files are just for "packaging", because the DSFs themselves are internally compressed via 7zip already ... which is transparent to you).

Of course ... that was never a question ...

I see Brazil is not in. Is the Rio de Janeiro Fix going to be included? :,-(

Guys: I have ALWAYS told what the scope of this release will be (it is even on the first post)! And we have discussed this many times ... so don't say its unexpected letdown.

This is a free/donationware(!) project which I am working on now since 9 months (of course not "full time" ... I have a lot of other things to do in my life) and I am happy that I can finally bring it to fruition (and after postponing it many times) ... Other than that, maybe I will include South America at some point, but I have no "official" plans about this for now. And all of this is NOT the fix/re-cut Laminar was talking about (thats done by LR, even though its based on the same new data which I do for them too), but the HD mesh scenery ...

Andras, I appreciate the clarification. I can see how there could be confusion over it since you also do work for LR, and we know they're planning a dsf recut. I'm looking forward to downloading it, and I've also just expressed my thanks in another way you should be finding out about soon. ;)

Something I was curious about that I don't think has been asked or mentioned before is whether or not the HD mesh would smooth out some of the drastic runway sloping you see in a lot of places when the sloping runways box is ticked. The best example I can think of at the moment is Ketchikan. Is that something the mesh will affect?

Is it me or is the very western tip of Kerry in Ireland going to need an entire tile to itself??? Also, yay Ireland in HD mesh!   :ireland-flag:

Yes, that is a "whopping" 7 MByte ZIP file

Just don't ask me when Ben / Austin will address those few re-cuts themselves (this is some planning which is on their agenda ... but I have already delivered all the data needed for it).

Maybe a  little bit yes. For one, the higher mesh density always also affects the slope representation in any given location (but it also depends on the DEM source data). But second, I have also upped the setting a notch, which controls the "internal" DEM smoothing when the mesh around airports is generated. This latter might affect the problem a little bit (hopefully in a positive way) ... But I might even check out Ketchikan later (as Alaska is still on my todo list for some final testing)

Awesome! I can't wait for this. I would love to see some before and after screenshots comparing what the new HD mesh will look like compared to default. Will there be a noticeable difference and also is the new HD mesh size larger than the default?

Of course there are differences ... otherwise it would not make much sense to distribute 55,7 GBytes of data ... Usually the DSF sizes are around 2,5-times larger than the default ones (just as a rule of thumb). You can read about some of the improvements on the firs post ... the biggest changes come from new OSM data (more than 2 years newer than what you have now - everywhere), landclass tweaks / updates (for example all of Canada was completely rewamped), a bit better DEM data (mostly no big changes, but in some places yes), and a lot of smaller stuff which adds up (it will be detailed on the download page).

Very nice, I'm particularly interested in the Hawaii region, will this update improve that area vastly? Thanks for your hard work! :)
