July 7, 201312 yr You can always build new airframes, lives are not so easily replaced... :Sigh: Sad to hear reports of people having passed away after the initial reports that everyone survived... :( Regards, Ró. Well said sir. - Luke Pabari
July 7, 201312 yr Commercial Member It appears that the engine is actually across the runway on the other side of the plane! Brandon Filer
July 7, 201312 yr Always very sad when lives are lost in aviation accidents. Todays media is totally full of Shite but the sad thing about that is it works for them! How does that reflect on the general public?
July 7, 201312 yr It appears that the engine is actually across the runway on the other side of the plane! *******... Scary enough having an out of control airliner crashing but it's amazing no one was injured (vehicle/another plane) by that engine being tossed around either. July 7, 201312 yr Yes, I suppose so. Assuming that this data is even reasonably correct, 109 kias @ 100' AGL sounds rather low and slow at that location... And for that size aircraft =) Shouldint it be more like 140-150 kias? Kacper Nowotynski
July 7, 201312 yr And for that size aircraft =) Shouldint it be more like 140-150 kias? It would be quite light by that point, but would still need 125 kias + wouldn't it?
July 7, 201312 yr It would be quite light by that point, but would still need 125 kias + wouldn't it? I just looked at the performance chart and lowest approach speed for any 777 type and engine is 126 kias http://www.boeing.com/commercial/startup/pdf/777_perf.pdf Kacper Nowotynski
July 7, 201312 yr Approach speed is 1.3 times Landing config stall speed plus the head wind plus 5 knots for wife and kids. But you all know that already, right!
July 7, 201312 yr It would be quite light by that point, but would still need 125 kias + wouldn't it? I just looked at the performance chart and lowest approach speed for any 777 type and engine is 126 kias Do we know whether FlightAware altitude/speed data is accurate to that degree?
July 7, 201312 yr Do we know whether FlightAware altitude/speed data is accurate to that degree? It most likely is not. But I'm not sure. Kacper Nowotynski
July 7, 201312 yr The best accurate information is of course those black boxes but we have to sit back and wait for the investigation report, I would say FlightAware gives us some idea for now but not accurate enough. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
July 7, 201312 yr FlightAware isn't going to be calibrated data that will be cited with confidence in a mishap investigation, but I'm sure it's in the ballpark (+/-10%) and the trends it shows are probably accurate even if the exact values are not.
July 7, 201312 yr Information released so far indicates 2 deaths and 1 unaccounted, and 49 in serious condition. Based on the glidescope data the Pilot was initially too high, then over compensated and came in below the glidescope. ILS was not operational at the time on 28L and the pilots were aware. There was a 747 holding short waiting for takeoff clearance, it was amazing the 747 didn't get hit and incredibly fortunate the 777 debris missed the 747 and the aircraft crashed to the right of 28L. Weather was perfect and there was NO ice conditions that could have affected fuel flow.
July 7, 201312 yr LOLOL! I did a back arrow look, and what did I find? CNN.JPG They put it on, then took it off, and now have put it back on. CNN is now reporting everyone is accounted for. 2 Dead, 123 uninjured, and 182 treated in hospitals. 49 of those in serious condition. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
