Asiana B-777 Reported Down At KSFO

Recommended Posts

So how much does a runway being inop  affect an airport like SFO? Obviously the debris, wreckage etc isn't going anywhere anytime soon so that runway is going to be inop for a few weeks I'm guessing?

Probably. I don't know for sure, was said on CNN a couple minutes ago.

I heard that too. I was just making an editorial not aimed at you. High AOA, Pull Back Yoke, Low Speed (or high altitude) = BAD JUJU.

At the coordinates in this image, FlightAware recorded their speed as 109kias, 100' AGL, -120 fpm descent. Well poop, the yellow arrow won't show on this image, but it is directly lined up with 28L, a few hundred feet from the rocks (about where the first 'wide' bar from the shore of the approach lights):

37.6103, -122.3550

Or maybe even runways 19L and 19R.

I keep thinking Reserve Fuel and Alternate Airport, two things I rarely focus on when I plan a flight (simulated).

Yes, I suppose so. Assuming that this data is even reasonably correct, 109 kias @ 100' AGL sounds rather low and slow at that location...

CNN just characterized this (from one of their contributors) as a "Text Book Crash Landing"... Say what????

Most crashes end up in text books.
