July 31, 201312 yr I think exactly as ailchim! I also have GEX+UTX covering Europe and I fly my airliners only over Europe so I don't need any global scenery upgrades. I would rather suggest if you look for places with immerse VFR flying impressions buy local ORBX sceneries (AU, NA, UK) and you will be much more satisfied flying slow-movers there than purchasing their expensive and worse global scenery add-ons.
July 31, 201312 yr There comes a point in every man's life, where he has to just go "Screw It" and click the "confirm order" button.
July 31, 201312 yr Author well it seems so far that ftx global is better than gex. what makes it difficult to me, I am finally satisfied with the sim and have had gex/utx, for years, I have been a loyal customer on that end. yes 100.00 is a lot for an addon, that is basically from what I understand will just replace GEX, no harm to UTX. so a few more questions here, still sitting on the fence!!!!!!!!! 1- how will this effect my airports from fs dreameam, fly tampa, flightbeam, and Latin VFR ? will I loose anything here??? 2- since I never bought anything from orbx - how difficult is the installion part ? If I have GEX I should uninstall it first, then install ftx global. right? 3- how is performance compared to someone who had utx with gex, and now has eliminated gex and installed ftx global ---by pereformance,, yes visually its better than gex, but is it as smooth as gex ???? please let me know thanks so much everybody, Ronny, keep it coming, my wife will kill me with the 100.00, but if it was less than I would buy it right away.!!!
July 31, 201312 yr I followed the clear directions, and restored the original textures through the FTX CENTRAL icon on my desktop. Then I deleted GEX with the UNINSTALL tool in the GEX Folder. Finally, I installed Global. Stan Stan, you never had to delete GEX at all! If you had GEX installed, and then fired up the FSXG installer, it would have created a verbatim copy of your current texture folder (with all the GEX files in it..verbatim) and only then, would have overwritten files in your FSX folder. So, in my case, being that there still are all my GEX files intact, I would only have to uninstall (yeah..right..lol) FSGX and the uninstall routine would then read and bring back everything it had made a copy of. The next time I would run FSX, it would be with GEX running the show, as was before the FSGX installation..... well it seems so far that ftx global is better than gex. what makes it difficult to me, I am finally satisfied with the sim and have had gex/utx, for years, I have been a loyal customer on that end. yes 100.00 is a lot for an addon, that is basically from what I understand will just replace GEX, no harm to UTX. so a few more questions here, still sitting on the fence!!!!!!!!! 1- how will this effect my airports from fs dreameam, fly tampa, flightbeam, and Latin VFR ? will I loose anything here??? 2- since I never bought anything from orbx - how difficult is the installion part ? Tell her, $100.00 wouldn't even get you off the ground today for an hour, in a rental Cub! But be warned, she would then come back to the house with a pair of $190.00 shoes, on-sale for $100.00 (....don't ask...do---not---ask, lol)....and tell you she LOVES your purchase logic. "Keep booking, Hubby!"..... (sigh)....
July 31, 201312 yr I have UTX and HAD GEX textures. I still have FS Genesis Landclass (you need a landclass with FX Global). I deleted GEX and bought FX Global. I have never been happier with my sim experience. Global really puts some "meat" into the scenery, and the night lighting in Global does NOTHING to the frame rates, unlike GEX. One of the best moves I've made this year. Stan Stan, how is FXGlobal with FS Genesis Landclass in Nevada? Is it steel green or more like a desert colour? Is FS Genesis landclass a commercial software available on FS Genesis? Thanks, Dirk.
July 31, 201312 yr Author It seems like a no brainer, compared to GEX, but on otherhand, just help me with those specific questions I have in post #33 thanks Ronny
July 31, 201312 yr Try to keep things simple. Just try demo and keep or uninstall. Some people here talks about FTX global installation like about open brain surgery  Zeljko Budovic
July 31, 201312 yr Not trying to sway anyone either way, I found this video that shows the two side by side. Judge for yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBjNszLfO3M Gregg, thanks for the link. This video sure helped me with my decision making process. Curt Branch

July 31, 201312 yr Author yep, the video does give the nod to ftx global, but does it effect airports that I currently own from fs dreamteam, flytampa etc etc
July 31, 201312 yr $100 for hours and hours and hours of fun is hardly expensive! I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram

"Keep booking, Hubby!"..... (sigh).... Deleting not a problem since I saved the original file. I could reinstall it anytime I wish; I also believe a fresh installation of GEX (should I ever want to reinstall it) would work out better than the older one. I believe there were some updates to it...that I always had trouble downloading. Stan Stan, I was told that FTXG does come with some open source LC. Is this not true? Also if you are using UTX, what options in as far as LC are you using within UTX? They have 4 or 5 I believe that you can check. I was just curious how the UTX part was setup. Did you use the default that you used when you had GEX installed? I am trying to get a feel for what one may be seeing that is part of UTX and what are they seeing which is FTXG. UTX does have a few textures it can swap. Bob Sorry...not sure how to answer the question regarding open source LC. I just know that Global is much more satisfying to me than GEX textures....without question! Stan
August 1, 201312 yr $100 for hours and hours and hours of fun is hardly expensive! But I'm getting hours & hours of fun with UTX and GEX! The point is, would the EXTRA fun from FXG be worth $100? That was the OP's question. I'm sure it's an excellent product in itself but isn't what the OP asked.
August 1, 201312 yr that is true, then he has to weigh up the extra $100 cost. I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
August 1, 201312 yr I too was nervous about FTXG and whether it was 'right' for me, and my simming (I owned all GEX areas, and most UTX). I caved in yesterday and bought it, and hype apart (positive and negative hype!), FTX Global is the best overall add-on I've ever bought for FS. (any version).
