Can PMDG enable FMC control via Internet IP address?

Featured Replies

if i'm not wrong, any "client" fmc etc. relies on pmdg releasing a sdk ... on the ngx, that was sp1c

for now, cheers

I wish someone would update the vatsim clients. I would gladly pay for a commercial version.

Off topic, but there is a team working on that very task already and from my understanding, they have made a decent amount of progress given that they only started writing code a few months ago.

New video every Thursday: Aircraft Lighting - Boeing 777

You can pull ANY cdu to an ipad by means xdisplay and splashtop streamer.

I am using this for about a year now and it just works.

Nothing fancy, just undocking the cdu on the main pc and dragging it to the ipad.

It's stable, doesn't eat cpu cycles and is usable for (almost) all cdu equiped aircraft.

I did find one for which the touch screen didn't work (can't remember which aircraft though)

but it was only one sofar.

Yes but you cannot run in full screen, that rules out a large number of simmers.

Here is a short vid i made demo-ing the Virtual CDU on an Android tablet, there is also an Ipad ver available.

Does it work also when you "reload" a previous saved flight? i think so, but better if you can confirm.

I've got the 737NGX FMC screen and 3 MIP displays undocked and moved to 2 secondary monitors and I run in fullscreen mode all the time. Maybe since these are real monitors though? <shrug>

i summise the "core interest" for many in using wifi tablet clients is "because we have them for other reasons" & if one can touchscreen use and display an fmc on one (with a reduction in cpu / fps load on the fsx server and in fsx fullscreen mode), then .... !

for now, cheers

My post was in responce to the guy talking about xdisplay etc, those apps don't work in full screen hence why many dont use it. Undocking to monitors obviously does work since we have been doing it for years, virtual cdu also allows full screen within FSX whilst using your ipad for the FMC

Man, I have a Nexus 10 tablet so this sounds great. One question, when running does it prevent the tablet screen from going to to sleep mode (the screen shutting down)?

I have an iPad, and under "settings/general/auto-lock" I can change the time it goes to sleep (2, 5, 10, 15 minutes, or never). I would assume other tablets have a similar function.

If you have it on battery, it is probably better if it goes. If you have it plugged in, you can easily setup the device do never go to sleep (as long as plugged in).

Other than that, you can use likes of Tasker to make sure it won't go off when the app is running.

I can't say how thrilled I am about Virtual CDU (available for Android & iPad).  On my Android Samsung Note 10.1, the FMC fills the ENTIRE display, which is ideal for my old eyes and fat fingers!  It makes programming a route "by hand" actually do-able and enjoyable!  It's so nice not to have to involve the undocking of sub-windows within FSX and the accompanying frames hit.  As Flex1978 has said, being able to run FSX full-screen while using the iPad/Android for the FMC is HUGE.

I can swap back and forth on my tablet between 4 different apps, including GARMIN PILOT, AirReport (metar) and SNote (notepad with stylus).  Garmin Pilot and Virtual CDU together have brought joy back to FSX for me.

Wow, what a nice surprise this app is.

I always hated the fact that VRInsights CDU's can only run in windowed mode so that was a no for me.

But this virtual CDU thing here works with full screen mode and the interaction seems to go very smoothly. first impressions are very good indeed.

The only thing i noticed was that DRAG REQUIRED couldn't be cleared from the scratchpad a a certain point and i had to fix that via line selecting something else,. Could have been a network glitch who knows.

Very nice!
