Spoiled by HGS

Featured Replies

Honestly I have been almost exclusively flying the NGX since its release. Most other aircraft just didn't cut it anymore because PMDG raised the bar so high. I have done the odd flight with the Queen or the VRS FA-18E. As the T7 release day approaches I am beginning to worry that the HGS has spoiled me. All my landings are done with the HGS and now I am beginning to worry that my landings are going to need a lot of practice.   LOL. The problems of the simmer, heh. Anyway what are your thoughts? Are you worried that your flying skills have degraded because of the HGS?

Nope, I force myself to fly at least 50% of my NGX flights either from the right seat or without HGS to stay sharp ;)

Sometimes I simply flip a coin to decide.

Good practice! If a real airline pilot had the choice what would they prefer?

In a lot of cases it's SOP to use the HGS if its available. Never bad to practice without it occasionally though.

A lot of them prefer the HGS and one of them who writes a blog thinks its one of the best features of the 737 cockpit.

Seems to me like if any pilot had a choice they would choose the technology that is designed to assist them in making their job safer.

I have to admit that the HGS really improved my flying, especially visual approaches. I've always had issues aiming for the runway. Of course, the PAPI or other lights would help me in judging my altitude, but my main issue was staying in front of the runway. As the HGS helped me with that, I feel more comfortable flying visual approaches also in other aircraft without the HGS.

You can fail all the instruments for all I care - I'll still find the airport, for I have the MSFS GPS.

Am pretty sure FedEx have HUD equipped 777's would be nice to see them as an expansion in the future. Something I wanted on the PMDG MD11F

Completely agree!!!! Stopwatch and compass FTW!

Best regards,

Robin.

Talking about the NGX, I am actually looking forward to the SP2 and the 900ER for the NGX as much as the 777.

Indeed... also the time compression feature (if it's included in the SP2?) and the Ground Service features...
