Future of FSX

Ok, so I have something to say in this thread.

So I understand idealism.

Realism and experience have value too.

Collaborate more, argue less.

Love Flight Sim, Love fellow Simmers.

Fly more, argue less.

Enjoy every sunset and sunrise, real or virtual. We only get about 25,000 of those, unless we go beyond 80 years old.

The future is so bright, you need to wear shades. :-)

Thanks for listening,

Peace Out

Wow!! A message from the great PTaylor himself.

Thank you Phil for the great platform you have given to us. It must be quite satisfying for you to see how FSX is still alive these days, especially considering the bashing it got when it was released.

Thank you for all the work you put into this platform. It brought countless hours of fun to me and many, many other fellow simmers.

Cheers,

Tom

Tom

Posts like this make me wonder what it is that people expect from FSX. What do we mean by better?

For me a piece of software that is 100% reliable, never crashes etc would be as good as it gets.

Pointless comment I guess but bells and whistles thrown at it will not make the difference. Until a developer has the rights to re code FSX it will remain unfinished and therefore not quite good enough.

Thanks Phil - great to hear from you again - as usual - telling it like it is.

I guess I missed something ... who in this thread said FSX is dead?  OP's topic was Future of FSX.

Frankly, the P3D EULA debate really is not a debate and I have no idea why some feel the need to keep bringing it back ... it does NO good to or for the community and flight simulation.

But as a flight simulation enthusiast, does it really matter "who" keeps the world of Flight Simulation going?  Be it MS, LM, LR or some other group/company ... they all want to do the same thing for those that enjoy flight simulation.

Good to see a cameo appearance from Phil.

Now back to P3D V2 and DX11 ... agree on the conversion of textures, but there are plenty of tools to work with HDR, so not sure what you mean there??  Anyway, I would expect that HDR be an option for 3rd party and supported in P3D V2.  If not, then P3D V2 might be disappointing from my perspective but the market will decide as always.  Obviously all existing FSX/P3D content is NOT HDR... but again, if it's supported it'll only take ONE 3rd party dev to do the HDR processing and people will immediately see the difference and hopefully will start the ball rolling for other 3rd party conversions.

FSX future is alive, it's in P3D's hands right now.  FSX current is very much alive in the community and 3rd party support and I agree that the DX10 fixes will keep it going longer (P3D V2 could be a game changer, just have to wait and see).

Rob

Rob I totally agree with you. We can discuss future of FSX as well as P3D and XP 10 because they all can have an impact on the future of FSX. Just because one mentions P3D is not a reason to bring up EULA. My suggestion is simple. If those who are trolling try to discuss the EULA don't respond to their post. If you don't play with them they will eventually go away or change their behavior. That will benefit us all.

As long as FSX works on my computer and I have so many toys to play with, then it's fun for me and FSX future is in my hands. The only part of the future that makes me wonder is the move to cloud computing with software as a service becoming the norm. Will I still be able to use FSX and all my toys then? I'm not as technically capable as many in this forum - much of the technical talk is just way too complicated for me to appreciate...just a flight sim junkie since FS4.

Anyone know if enbseries has the potential to work with DX10? I know there are a lot of things in the pipeline, but enbseries is critical for me to make the switch. Thanks

Jacob

Speaking as a relative latecommer to the world of FSX I think it has a very bright future, you only have to look at the amount of companies that make add ons such as Airports, Textures and of course aircraft. It also does what a lot of software fails to do and that is to cater to all tastes from new uses to professional pilots.

Take aircraft for example  for a newcomer like me the thought of trying to fly a PMDG sounds very daunting ( I probably could not run it on my system for now but thats another matter), so  I have just bought the Tristar L1011 for the princely sum of £5 ($8), a great introduction to payware aircraft.

As long as people continue to buy add ons then they will continue to be made and even when it does come to the day when they finally stop, FSX will continue to be used, I will be building a new PC next year mainly for FSX .There's still a very devoted following to Microsoft Train Simulator and that was made over ten years ago.So I think the future looks very bright.

Thank you Phil.

Glad to see you here again ! ^_^

I am one of few who is actually beta testing a new DX10 tool which converts all scenery into DX 10 compatible on the fly.

Dx9 is history for me since the beginning of the year...

All my scenery and aircraft are working, including night lighting.

Indeed FSX has come a long way....

I think the future of FSX lies with FS9. If more new users purchase FS9 they will become more interested in flightsimming and then look to see what else is out there and they will discover FSX and hopefully purchase it. That will keep things alive by bringing in new users. Then they can move on to other great, wonderful, simulations.
