September 7, 201312 yr I am a big fan of DCS, but I cannot wait for their F/A-18, as it can take more than a year until a F/A-18 is released. What I want to ask is, is the F/A-18E by VRS worth buying? Or is there a better F/A-18 Simulator? Thank you
September 7, 201312 yr The VRS F/A-18 is fantastic, has most of the systems and is able to perform carrier landings. I think it'll be great for you. Thanks, Kevin L
September 7, 201312 yr I purchased the Superbug many moons ago. I still fly it regularly. The fact that it is still flown often is the best recommendation I can give. Buy it, you will like it I think.

September 7, 201312 yr Indeed, in terms of FSX military aircraft addons, it's the PMDG of the league, for sure. Regards,Kyle
September 7, 201312 yr The VRS F-18E aircraft is definitely worth the money and I give it two thumbs up. I can fly the F-18 for days on end if I'm not careful. It is very very immersive for carrier ops and, if you desire, blowing stuff up. I highly reccommend you also sign up with FSX Carrier Ops and fly with others (it's free!) and they have a server for voice and you can partner up. They also fly other scenarios besides F-18 Carrier, like WWII Pacific theater planes and that's lots of fun. You should also get vLSO to score your carrier landings. It gives you real-time guidance to the wire as well. Once the FSX@War is released, I will return to the VRS and start practicing again. Not sure when to expect that they will release, been watching it online for months and months. I have parked my VRS F-18 for right now so I can go back and do some regular flying.
September 8, 201312 yr ...Or is there a better F/A-18 Simulator? Well, that's a solid negatory red leader. There is no better Hornet simulator. The VRS in the limited FS world isn't what DCS A-10C is like. However, combine the VRS bug with TacPack and it is quite capable and performs well. There are very few systems that are not simulated at least well (most excellent to virtually perfect). The main drawback is that FSX was designed to provide a hostile combat environment, so the missions either require a lot of setup (there are facilities to add SAMs, etc) or are more related to basic flight ops. September 8, 201312 yr VRS Superbug, simply put, is awesome. You will not regret purchasing this bird. September 8, 201312 yr Yep, the best modern military jet available. My only quibble is it's a bit hard on frames, so you might consider the freeware Sludge hornet if your system is slow. September 8, 201312 yr I have it but until FSX@war comes, it is just another "combat" jet in a non-combat sim. It's on the back burner for me. Better combat sim option by far right now is FalconBMS. http://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/content.php?s=e884d6993a9e5d633cf9d9f15ebee47f
September 8, 201312 yr I love the vrs superbug. I also have vrs tac pack.there are loads of you tube videos using vrs superbug & tac pack that you could take a look at. <p> Paul Sleight
September 8, 201312 yr Indeed, in terms of FSX military aircraft addons, it's the PMDG of the league, for sure. +1, just as long as you realize that it is still an add-on to FSX (with all those limitations imposed). It is not a narrowly focused combat flight simulator. But with the inclusion of VRS TacPack, it is easily the most fun that you can have with FSX. TacPack is moments away from being expanded to other FSX 3rd party military aircraft.
September 8, 201312 yr It's important to understand that even with TP, it does not transform FSX into a true simulation of combat. At US$85 for both the VRS F/A18 and TP, I might suggest waiting until FSX@War is released to see how far this can be taken into a combat sim.
September 8, 201312 yr One minor quibble - TacPack is not fully DX10 compatible and VRS have not indicated they have any interest in making it so.
