December 9, 201312 yr I think anyone who has a good running sim and a big investment will claim all sorts......as has been said a zillion times, to each his own. They all have have problems they all have their good points. If you love flying and can play on these wonderful games, that is all that matters. December 10, 201312 yr I'm a die hard FSXer, so what will happen when P3D is old hat? I will await the ZoopySoft 1.000.000 BIT NanoTEK Flight Sim..  James (jaydor) "Let me X-Plane where I fly in 2020"

I will await the ZoopySoft 1.000.000 BIT NanoTEK Flight Sim..  I pointed out before that a lot of people clutched FS9 to their chests and vowed to never let it go when FSX came out........ It would probably be a riot to find out how many of those same people are now clutching FSX and vowing never to let go........ No, I have no idea if you fit that category. December 10, 201312 yr With all the angsty introspection going on, just remember one thing: The poster is a guy who obtains the most detailed terrain he can purchase for his flight simulator, then spends more money on clouds so he can't see any of it as he flies. At night.

December 10, 201312 yr I think it's definitely a good time to be into this hobby. With Microsoft having been out of the picture for a few years has allowed some of the underdogs such as X-Plane, Flightgear, Aerofly, and DCS to gain some exposure. While Prepar3D owes its greatness to MSFS legacy, it does not appear to be quite the juggernaut as previous MSFS releases have been in the past. To me I think this is a good thing as no one sim has a monopoly on talented 3rd party developers.
December 11, 201312 yr For myself, I have no problems moving to something else, but there is no way in heck I'm gonna pay rent for it... one price, one box. Make your money with add ons. Just like concerts, the money is in the t-shirts, not the tickets.
December 12, 201312 yr I'm still with FS9 and I'm loving it! Me too bought three carendo planes today at 60% off came to three 3 planes for a price of one. Use all three fsx, fs2004, xpx depends on mood.
December 15, 201312 yr I go back to the original Flight Simulator by SubLogic so yes, I do remember "the good ol' days." And I remember compuserve and AOL being our portal to like minded sim enthusiasts. I've also been around AVSIM for as long as AVSIM's been around, though I've gone through five or six different user names in all those years. Heck, I even remember Opa back when he was just Dave. RIP my friend. The point is, yes, things have changed in this community, and not always for the better. While I have used FSX, I continue to use FS9 for the same reasons that an FSX user mentioned earlier; the investment of time and money I have in FS9 has given me, and continues to provide, what I consider the best sim experience. I don't have any issue with folks using whatever platform they feel best for them. I do find a little humor in that many FSX users are now saying the same things about upgrading to P3D that we hardcore FS9 guys said, and were mercilessly derided for, about FSX. One thing I've noticed that I believe has contributed to the divisiveness is that the core audience has changed. When FS9 was released, I think it's fair to say that the majority were hardcore guys. Many were, like me, pilots in the real world and we were most concerned about the flight dynamics, systems modeling and real world procedures. Eye candy was an afterthought and not really our focus, hence the many complaints about FSX where it was all eye candy, for the most part. We could really care less about missions and traffic on the highways, etc. When FSX was released, more gamers got on board and with that there was the inevitable change in mindset that it's just a game. In many ways, it has become just that. It just seems that people are less interested in using FS as a tool to facilitate learning and more interested in just playing a game. The fact that there are now multiple platforms, forcing third party developers to make a choice, for economic reasons, to support one or the other, seems only to have exacerbated the problem. At the end of the day, I just try to abide by the idea of "to each their own." Regardless of the platform one chooses to use, it's still flight sim and there's an old political axiom that applies here. "The things that unite us are far greater than the things that divide us." Cheers!! "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." -Leonardo da Vinci (some experts question the attribution, but I'll go with it for now.)

December 17, 201312 yr Human nature is to seek common validation - that is if you're using something different than what I use, you must be wrong. The simple truth is all answers are right- and depend on the individual enthusiast's goals and what flying their chosen simulator means to THEM. I know some pilots really don't care about the scenery at ALL, others don't mind tinkering under the hood, and some care only about the airplane flight model, not the eye-candy of the 3D cockpit. And so there is inevitably a collision when fans of Simulation A encounter rabid fans of Simulation B. Ultimately, the moderators step in and close such threads before war breaks out. Personally, 'to each his (or her) own' seems logical. The contentiousness of some enthusiasts often results in some folks departing forum participation completely. That is regrettable, because by sharing our knowledge, each of us benefits and tech support issues are oft times easily resolved by one person reporting what worked for them on a public forum, and others with the same issue reading the 'fix' that he/she posted! And as another member said, everyone has to turn a blind eye to some part of their simulation experience. Maybe it's the occasional 5-second freeze-up, or the odd OOM error, or a random crash-to-desktop. Point being, no simulation platform is perfect. It's simply one may be more appealing to YOU than the other(s). Some of us fly multiple platforms as well. R.
