December 5, 201312 yr Commercial Member And therein lies the problem. Strange it doesn't seem to be a too much of a problem for Carenado and most others. It's not so much a problem as it is a business decision after five years of support. We have a right to make these choices. As such, we did, and that's all it really does come down to. December 5, 201312 yr "Heading Downhill" not really. I personally found it interesting to get some incite into how some of the significant players in X-plane feel and operate. For the most part sensible intelligent discourse from, for the most part, sensible intelligent people...who have occasional bust-ups. I know a sensible intelligent (good looking) individual who I am lucky enough to have married; guess what ..we have bust-ups. Now if you want "Heading Downhill" Switched on the TV and saw an MU2. Whow never seen one on the TV (my excitement partly explained by my present fascination for the X-plane version) Whow that's a really bland paint job, dull white with eeerrhh a big red cross on it. Oh Sh*t that would be , amongst others, a 5yr girl with her right arm amputated below the shoulder and a 7yr old boy with severe injury to his buttock about an hour away from having his left leg amputated. All gun shot injuries. Welcome to the wonderlamd that is the Central African Republic. Another "cut and paste" job starring marauding militias fighting over god knowns what terrorising an already poverty stricken local population. Now that's "HEADING DOWNHILL"
December 5, 201312 yr Troll troll troll your boat, gently down the stream, merrily merrily merrily merily, Linux users makes me want to scream. Dont know who you are, I think you have come from one of the other xplane forums but generally the tone here is not like what I just quoted you saying. I think the tone here is better than that.
December 5, 201312 yr Commercial Member Dont know who you are, I think you have come from one of the other xplane forums but generally the tone here is not like what I just quoted you saying. He's the author of the software included in the snarky remark by JasonX. Just as much so a non-constructive comment for this topic. Time to be grown ups, guys. Let's let this topic go. There's nothing more to be said in here, it's already being monitored. Anything more is essentially just stoking a fire that need not be stoked in a place like Avsim. Founder of X-Aviation
December 5, 201312 yr Commercial Member Dont know who you are, I think you have come from one of the other xplane forums but generally the tone here is not like what I just quoted you saying. I think the tone here is better than that. The user I quoted in my reply conveniently dropped all relevant factual data to continue to pursue an unrelated topic that was politely addressed earlier in the thread. The linux discussion is extremely boring, especially when they choose to ignore facts presented so that they can continue to pursue their self interest. That is pretty much the definition of trolling. The general tone here IS better than that. Please take the entire context of my posts into account before judgement. Author of Gizmo64 for X-Plane.
December 5, 201312 yr Author Just to pull this a little more back on topic, I should state that I have never had any major problems with .org, in fact the org store has been fantastically helpful and I have made several hundred dollars worth of purchases their. I know a little of the animosity between developers and sites but as per my original post, my issue was the behaviour of one of the mods, in relation to a question about X-Plane itself. The question related to whether the movie controls can be removed from screen, a fair, and valid question I think. The reply, from one of the senior mods was "Crop out the bar and get over it. Pretty simple…" Now this was seemingly to a newcomer to .org who believed that .org was the official X-Plane forums. Its a good question that does not relate to any third party products on .org or other, nor does it promote talk about or in any other way discuss third party development. It is this sort of answer that has no place in any forum especially from a senior mod, it scares away potential x-plane converts who have genuine valid questions about the simulator. Now I understand the need to protect your business, by not allowing promotion of other site's products, that seems fair and rational, however, if these are the terms of your website, then why would you have a General X-Plane Forum. I seems to me that there is a major conflict of interest, especially when the General forum is regarded to be the "to go" place for X-Plane users. In my opinion, you are either a community that supports X-Plane, or a business that provides products for X-Plane. I don't think there can be a happy medium between the two. This is, in my opinion, why the Avsim forum is thriving, there is no direct conflict of interest and therefore there can be a productive, sometimes heated but generally amicable discussion between developers, users and potential users. December 5, 201312 yr This is really not helping X-Plane .... Really!! Disgustful !.... December 5, 201312 yr Moderator The reply, from one of the senior mods was "Crop out the bar and get over it. Pretty simple…" I know the mod you mean. He makes the place unfriendly, and should be got rid off. I don't know why such a person is a moderator. Other than that, the X-Plane.org community is full of enthuiastic people like us :-)
December 5, 201312 yr HiFlyer, on 05 Dec 2013 - 12:21 AM, said: I don't think I've ever seen a thread head downhill with such grim determination before. This has been a 'behind the scenes' fascinating read and follow. Will it affect from whom and where I purchase my Xplane add's from? Not at all! My flight sim'ing is about recreating the mind, and could care less about the Politicalboro that feeds the hobby. It utterly amazes me to read that other users will,or will not purchase a product because of who creates and/or market channel's it. Who cares??? Buy it for what enhancements your experience receives, and for no other reason...for there should not be one... I believe truly that the XPlane franchise is where the future lays, and hope that all you developers keep creating for this platform, and in that alone, you will all share in a greater and growing financial pie. Xplane has a working 64 bit platform. End of story....features will be refined and/or added into the mix. You developers keep doing what you do...and the money will flow into the coffers to all, and through multiple avenue streams....

Would you go back to a restaurant if the manager insulted you, told you you weren't welcome, and then taunted you as you walked out the door? Why should an online shop be any different? December 5, 201312 yr Would you go back to a restaurant if the manager insulted you, told you you weren't welcome, and then taunted you as you walked out the door? Why should an online shop be any different? If the food was to my liking, and truthfully...yes I would! I come to the restaurant/software offering, for the 'food', and not the social demeanor of either the owner or his staff. Once the food/software-being-delivered.....is 'served' and being enjoyed...that is what is focused upon. Speaking about food...a Greek salad really sounds good right now...black olives, pimento peppers, feta cheese, oh yeah...food and a good software purchase hits the brain in the same location....and that has been my experience.... Life is good!
December 5, 201312 yr Perhaps your a bit more forgiving than I am? B) To put it as simply as possible I was disrespected and treated poorly at the .org not only by some of the more notorious moderators but by the manager himself. So as a consumer I elect not to shop there period, shouldn’t be that hard to understand. If the .org is the only place a developer is selling his product I just don’t buy it. I don’t have anything against them, if they offer the same product someplace else or direct I’ll gladly pick it up. Where and who I purchase from is my choice as a consumer and I’m certainly not going to spend any of my hard earned money at a place that treats me poorly or say’s I’m not welcome. RE Thomason Jr.
December 5, 201312 yr Respectively typing, if the .org had history with us both of a nature as you relate, the end result difference to our approaches would be myself enjoying that new OMG weather generator, with the other person not losing sleep in how you or I feel, but in your case, self denied enjoyment and use thereof ...
December 5, 201312 yr I think it's great that people can meet here on Avsim and discuss everything X-plane-related without seeing their posts or thoughts overtly subjected to the dynamics of business dealings, branding, politics and allegiances, but that may well change in the near future as well. After an exhausting trip back from the west coast, I am starting to catch up with the reading. So, Dan, what does this quote above mean? What makes you think "but that may well change in the near future as well." referring to AVSIM? What do you know that I don't? Our allegiance has always been to our community members. To imply that we might not maintain that allegiance and suddenly change it to some commercial self-interest does demand an explanation. Otherwise, I might be left to conclude that you are simply trying to poison the well here.

I hope I'm able to reciprocate the same level of respect you have given in our dialog. I respect your pov however, as you suggest the other person probably didn't lose any sleep over this but what they have lost is a sale and a returning customer. I can live with this "self denied enjoyment" outcome until either the product in question is offered elsewhere or the establishment is under new management. How 'bout we just drop this altogether and go do some flying? :friends: RE Thomason Jr.
